Rock Band 3 |OT|

NameGenerated

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
2 Devin Townsend albums on the way plus possibly more in the future makes RBN worth it to me.

Right now though it doesn't have much I want.

Got this interesting score message tonight. Not sure if having players solve math problems to figure out where they really stand is a good new feature though.

Also it doesn't seem possible to have guitar/bass/keyboard/vocals without doing full band mode which was somewhat annoying. The slot for keys and vocals kept conflicting. Anyone know of a work around?

RBN is no reason to switch consoles. All of the bands worthwhile will eventually get to PS3 while 360 users can sort through hundreds of awful myspace bands.

I wouldn't go that far. There are tons of tracks from established acts that continue to get passed over for "awful myspace bands."

I'm still waiting for the rest of the Sunny Day Real Estate, Band of Horses and New Pornographers to make it over to PS3 RBN, but they get continually ignored in favor of pure crap.

OK s i have a question. For Pro Drums must i enable all three cymbals? Doesnt it auto detect them? Also i noticed on a few songs such as Lady In A Blue Dress there are no toms. Is this ok?

Honestly, I can't understand that kind of moneyhatting. Paying to limit a unknown feature that only a few percentatge of the users of RB uses (RBN DLC) in the "opposite" platform, to have a slightly better version to force a minority (the users with 2 consoles) of a minority (people who download DLC) of a minority (people who download RBN) of a minority (people interested in myspace-like bands) to choose 360 over PS3.

That is kind of stupid, because that small minority probably have the previous RB and won't change the platform, losing the previous games exports and already downloaded DLC. But annoying a lot of people because, even if they will never download those groups, they feel that they are pissed off with a more limited version.

Seriously... why EA accept that kind of deals?

agreed, its stupid beyond belief. Surely they have logs of the keys that were entered? I emailed them immediately after my code was rejected, and said 'I just did it, go back and check the logs, here is the code I used'

but no, they wanted receipt and leaflet scan. Luckily I'd ordered online so had the email receipt, otherwise I'd have replied in a similar fashion to yours.

I'm having the same issue. I do have a screen shot of the site telling me they're out of tokens. I got my copy new and sealed off of eBay so I'm attaching the out of tokens screen, the ebay auction screen and a scan of the code (after I get my scanner working of course - grrr). That better do the trick. I shouldn't have to be jumping through these kinds of hoops for something that was a complete screw up on their part.

OK im getting angry. Is there a list of RBN songs that support Pro Drums? I read Asking Alexandria does but no it does not.

Also can someone tell me if i have hooked it up OK? I have set my drums settings to all 3 cymbals im guessing this is ok? Also i turned drum fills off this does not affect anything does it?

EDIT: Just realised The Final Episode does not. That is crap : ( The 2 others do so that is really dissapointing as its my favourite song.

In other news Pro rums is raping my ass.

I guess I'm one lucky S.O.B.

RB3 is actually my first Rockband since the original. However in anticipation of it, I decided to purchase some of the previous discs since they can be had at reasonable prices now.

Last night I installed:
  • Gamestop re-order DLC (thanks Charron!!!)
  • Doors launch-week DLC
  • RB Green Day export
  • Lego RB export
  • RB 2 twenty song bonus tracks
  • RB 2 export

I also re-downloaded my full catalog of DLC (I have a tertiary PS3 now :lol)

RB AC/DC should be showing up in a few days. Hopefully my luck continues :p

What is this RB 2 twenty song bonus tracks and how do you export it?

Because MS funded RBN development.

I don't have a problem with waiting a month, because I'm patient.

I have a problem with us getting 5 songs a week. Harmonix's claim of 2,000+ songs is a lie to around 2/3rds of their userbase.

I still hold hope for the idea that RBN will be available in Australia one day.

I want Band of Horses and RX Bandits tracks to play.

Also, they count Beatles RB and unexported songs. Those 2,000 songs of the library should be the songs that you can't have in your library.

Looking through the booklet with the 2000+ songs in it, they dont list Beatles stuff in there. The unexportable stuff like Metallica and Soundgarden are in there, but even taking those out it is over 2000 by now.

So now i have put a few hours in i have one complaint.

The Pro Drums shoul not be liste for songs its not included on. You dont understan how dissapointed i am in the fact that my favourite songs do not support this mode and all toms are charte to the cymbals. So sad. Also HMX claim that all past DLC is good but Writing On The Walls, which really is recent has some weird shit going on in parts where the toms is charted to the hi hat. Its not all perfect and to tell you the truth i feel really let down. Oh well. Still a great game. Shame about this though.

I'm getting really pissed off.

EB Australia were charging ripoff prices for hardware, so I decided to purchase from GameStop US instead. Furthermore I had a bad experience with EB in the past for shipping me two copies of the FFXIII CE Guide in thin cardboard packaging, wrecking them both.

I preordered a keyboard and drums but about three days after release date they cancel my order. I ordered the same thing again, as well as writing in to ask why they cancelled. Turns out they think I stole the credit card details!

I switched to Barnes & Noble and ordered the same thing, while cancelling the second GameStop order. The expected ship date is October 29, but it still hasn't shipped!

FUCK GAMESTOP. Whether it's directly, through EB Australia or B&N, they can't help fucking me over.

The majority of RBN stuff isn't available to us. That alone knocks it down to 1600, without considering unexportables.

I have the SX model (mesh heads all around), and yes it will work once the MIDI adapter is available. The TD-9 sound module's trigger mapping can be reprogrammed (MIDI ID for each trigger), so we're all good.

Mad Catz was smart and gave several ID's for each trigger, so plenty of kits with non-programmable MIDI output should work anyway.

BTW - if you have an Ion 'brain', you can use that for PS3 in the meantime.

Isn't it just some RBN songs with dodgy Pro Drums charting? Moral of the story: stick to real DLC.

Mostly yes. Writing On The Walls is HMX charted DLC. Still does not matter. A little let down but still an amazing game all round and have been playing for like 8 hours straight today :D

Not really sure what you're getting at, but Rock Band Network uses Microsofts XNA platform as a means of letting authors put up their songs and get paid. There is no equivalent on Sonys or Nintendos platform. I'm willing to bet that if XNA did not exist, we wouldn't have RBN. It would be way too much work for Harmonix/EA to develop a system for licensing and distributing content on a console.

There's no moneyhatting involved. I'm sure Harmonix and EA would LOVE to put up every single RBN track on the PS3 and Wii, but they're just not able to without either taking a big hit themselves or screwing over the authors.

Man, they really knocked it out of the park.
Love how they've updated things.
-Earning fans and completing challenges in Quick Play
-Style change
-Character and Band Customisation even better
-Keyboard is a solid piece of kit
-Good song list

Think navigating the Career area is actually rather confusing.
Must pick up Lego Rock Band in a few weeks, being super cheap now.

I particularly love how the game is unfindable in my area. And by "my area", I mean a 12 mile radius around my city, plus the immediate area of my brother's gamestore.

In not so surprising news, the game has totally failed to sell at launch weekend in the UK, only reaching a high of 26th place on all format charts.

Hope the game is successful in America because this could cause some trouble for Harmonix, thank god they have a new franchise in Dance Central.

But remember, it's going to sell less than the current GH (84,000 or something like that) :lol

I can't believe Harmonix fucked up their big chance at reaching out to their UK customers. You'd think they would have learned their lesson with their past two games, but nope. :lol

I don't know why anyone expects RB3 to do massively better than WoR. The Beatles may have sold slightly better (though almost certainly not if you go by worldwide figures), but they're the fucking Beatles. The game had massive mainstream press and topped out at well under RB2.

If I had to bet RB3's first "month" (which is what, 5 days or so of sales) will be around 100k in the US. A victory, but a pretty sad victory.

It's their own fault. I haven't seen a single advert for it. People don't even know it's available or what it has added over the last game. My store didn't get a single copy or piece of hardware in - we got one in on Saturday!. My local Gamestation got 2 copies in on every format, one keyboard, and one Pro Drumkit. It's pathetic

You know what's the funny thing? I seriously don't recall ever seeing a Warriors of Rock or Rock Band 3 commercial. I remember back when Rock Band 2 was out (and even before it was out), I'd be seeing the commercial over and over again.

What's with the lack of advertisement this time around? Seriously.

same here. No point of sale material (all kinect preorders and CoD), some stores didn't have stock on the shelves, lack of instruments. Just a shitty launch IMO.

Considering its two years since RB2, they should have taken the opportunity for a relaunch of the platform, especially in Europe.

BTW, my local Wal-Mart had PS3 keyboards so if anyone is still looking for a keyboard in the Inland Empire area (in California), make sure to check out your local Wal-Marts! They even had a GH 5 guitar + game on sale for $40.

It's such a shame because it's such an innovative game and Harmonix have done an incredible job. I haven't enjoyed a music game this much since RB2. Pro Drums has totally changed the game yet I knew nothing about it because there is NOTHING there to tell me why I would like it. Did everyone know that Pro Drums works with every song? Every song since the first game has the note chart for Pro mode! That, to me, is just amazing! Fuck the new music...they just gave me the ultimate reason to re-play every single song I have bought over the last 3 years

in the UK I've seen no RB3 promo activity, even WoR had crappy ads running on obscure pay TV channels IIRC.

Hmm, I've got a question:

So RB3 is my first RB game ever. Really like it and now I want to buy RB, RB2 and that song pack 2, just to export them all into RB3 if possible.
I have a german PAL version of the RB3 game. What I need to know is, can I just go ahead and buy a UK or PEGI version of the other games? I know that the US versions won't be compatible with my german RB3 - that's what I heard at least. So can anyone shed some light into this for me? It's kind of unclear to me... thanks a bunch!

All PAL versions should be compatible. Only a language difference AFAIK.
Just rent or borrow Rock Band 1 and buy the export key and see can you find a copy of Rock Band 2 for cheap.
Lego Rock Band is selling for £10 at the moment and is well worth the cost.

Yeah, launch seems pretty fucked here in Australia as well. Aside from online (overseas, nonetheless) it's fucking impossible to find a copy of the game anywhere here except at EB, where of course it's at full price. No ads anywhere, fuck-all instore promotions and, well, I'd talk about how they don't advertise any new features but as I said, there are no advertisements at all.

On the other hand, plenty of copies of the new GH around (with bundles or without) and fucking heaps of promos for DJ Hero 2.

I don't know who's handling it here (EA?) but it seems the franchise has been pretty much sent to die. If people knew they could play keytar with Huey Lewis, they'd sell a million copies, but people know shit.

Can I also add, that the new Rockband website is terrible especially the forums.

So much wasted space and fixed width columns, lots of text overlapping and it runs really slow too.

As others have said, it uses the code on the back of the manual.

It seems weird since it uses the same code as you use to export the disc-based songs. However, there are specific instructions on the back of the manual for how to get the downloads. There's a special website you need to go to and enter the code (along with email, etc ... they send you a redeem code then IIRC).

I'm on a business trip so I don't have the manual (and can't check the site because it's blocked). I'm probably wrong, but I think the site is something like http://www.rockband.com/bonustracks

have they fucked up the online functionality for RB3 or something??

Is there a way for me to substitute Xbox Live players into my band for Road Challenges? Everytime I go to play online someone else is the "leader" besides me. How can I start an Xbox Live game where I'm the band leader? (not inviting friends, I'm talking about grabbing randoms from XBL)

Agreed. It'll be a real shame if this is anything less than a smashing success. Not only did Harmonix go way beyond what people expected (well, that's assuming the important bugs get fixed and some elements get tweaked) ... but a failure would have serious implications for the future. Could be the last major upgrade?

Those that have been really paying attention know about the pro drums having been their since day one ... but I'm pretty sure it isn't widely known for many people. There hasn't been a great effort to advertise everything that's there. That said, there is so much that it probably is hard to get the word out on everything.

The Underoath song. That was in RBN, it was in Peer Review when Harmonix released it. What the fuck was going on with that song....

Also. RBN having dodgy Pro drums is entirely Harmonix's fault. They didn't tell authors how to mark Pro Drums until July, and they still don't require it, even though they mark every song as Pro-ready anyway. It's their fuck-up, not ours. That and all RBN songs capping at tier 5 because they fucked with the tiers again. (And yea, I am pissed about those two things.)

do we have any idea if and when Harmonix are going to start retrofitting keyboard to stuff where it would make the most sense?

it's pretty annoying that just a week or two ago we got a song by the Smiths and even that doesn't have keys charted for it.

i'll have no problem buying stuff going forwards, but catching up on some songs i missed, well i don't want to buy stuff missing harmonies and keys that should have them.

As I said I had no idea that all songs were Pro-mode compatible. I try and keep myself up to date with Rock Band but it's news to me

Question for the Pro players...do you have the cymbals above the corresponding colours or do you have them in different positions? The box for the drums has the yellow and blue switched - ie like this: http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4...reless-Pro-Drums-and-Cymbal-Pack/Product.html

I tried it and it works but it's very confusing. But is this the way it's meant to be played?
