For normal quickplay games, yes it is pretty much the same (except with setlists which makes it 100 times more awesome)

If we are putting the tour mdoe into the equation then no. Tour mode multiplayer is freaking awesome.

Do ranked matches still have the songs picked randomly? And the host picks all the songs in band quickplay?

Well my guitar just broke in the middle of a long setlist. Go figure. So now the only piece of equipment that still works is the microphone and even that is spotty at best. I really wish we could get decent equipment.

Is the fan system messed up this time?

I hit the Medium limit earlier (550k), so I bumped myself up to hard but was not gaining any fans (though I only got 4 stars on the 2 songs I played).

Then I dropped back to medium to ensure I made it through a couple longer sets and all of a sudden I'm getting fans again...up way past what I thought was the cap...I think it's sitting at 590k right now. Weird.

Also, what's a good song to get the 90 sec overdrive in? I have most DLC, I'm playing solo guitar today and play on medium/hard...no expert here

I'd like to know as well. 90 seconds is quite the long time to have overdrive for, that's half the length of your average song.

EDIT: From xbox360achievements.org:

The Bachman-Turner Award - Maintain deployed Overdrive for 90 seconds. 25G
This is a tricky one. You have to keep overdrive going for a straight 90 seconds. The closest I've gotten is Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi on expert guitar. A bit more whammying and timing and I should get it. Also another theory, in Rock Band 1 when you were playing Tug of War or Vocal Solo tour and you deployed Overdrive while not playing, your overdrive meter stopped draining. Not sure if that works yet, will try it. This has been confirmed that it can be done with a band as long as one of you has overdrive at one point.

My edit was beaten!

We got the 90 second overdrive achievement as a full band on Today. It doesn't have to be a single person. As long as the band has at least a 2x on the overdrive, then it counts. Therefore, REALLY EASY if you can coordinate deployment.

Anyone wanna play some RB2 online? I'm up for anything, I've gone through all the Guitar Challenges and figured it might be good to play with others.

Also, I remember earlier in the thread there were some issues with playing challenges with other bands, and then when you quit the progress wasn't applied to your game. Do you have to be a "main member" of the band for it to save progress, or how does it all work?

EDIT: I also have about 80-90 DLC songs and imported all the RB1 songs.

Also, speaking of achievements, a guy got all the endless setlist achievements already (including Iron Bladder). He took screen shots here: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14790&start=0

Only took him 6h 13m. I think I can hold my bladder that long
and keep a bucket in close proximity just in case
. But I'm going to play bass to be safe.
Holy shit.

Also how does it make sense to get an airplane before you get roadies?

Whatever happened to actually savoring a game? Guess I'm the only person with a bad power-gaming experience.
Dude works at GameSpy and has had it for over a week.

ESL doesn't count unless it's a full band (at least for me).

Oh ok. I thought it was some random ScoreHero fiend who has done nothing but Rock Band 2 in the last 36 hours.

I'm down. Shoot me an invite whenever. GT: STi xTaKeR

Has there been any official word on the new guitar being out there yet? This lag on my LCD is killing me even if it is a bit more tolerable than RB1.

Manual calibration doesn't work? The auto-cal is terrible for me, but manual gets it 95% of the way there (feels perfect on guitar, very slightly off on singing and drums for some reason).

You're damn right I am. :'(

I'm doing everything in my power to not buy the game for the 360 and just use my GH3 guitar and mic until the PS3 version comes out. I don't want to spoil the excitement.

Nope. I don't know what it is, but lag has always been a tremendous problem on my tv. it can feel right for one second, and then completely off the next. It's really bizarre and since I've had it (2-3 years) I've never been able to get it right on any rhythm games. Hence my need for this new guitar.

Oddly enough, I have an LCD TV and the default calibration for RB2 (0,0) is damn near perfect.

The only problem I have is that the timing for double bass beats on drums are far tighter than in RB1, and I don't know if it's a bug with RB2 or just my TV (I'm thinking it's the former since I can hit the other drum notes fine).

I wish mine was like that as well. Playing drums on my tv is just....... it seriously is impossible compared to guitar. What kind of LCD do you have?

for my CRT set (RPTV) I have to leave it at 0,0

in rb1 I set it to CRT RPTV and it worked perfectly. On this one I use the timed calibration and it sets audio to like -89ms and video to 30ms, both of which wreak havoc on my playing. So I set it back to 0,0.

I just unboxed the new RB2 drums and WOW are they a ton better then #1's.

I absolutely hated #1's because they always felt like I had to hit them with the hammer of thor in order to get a registered hit, which in turn made them really loud.

However upon turning these bad boys on, I found that not only is the material quieter then my felt pads I made for my first kit, but you only have to BARELY tap on the pad for it to work. That is freaking awesome! I can finally drum again without having that concern that I am missing hits because of the shitty pads.

The only problem I have had so far (which I fixed easily) was the blue pad is over-sensitive. When I was messing around in Freestyle mode I noticed that when I hit the yellow pad fairly hard it would sometimes register the blue pad as a weak hit. How I fixed it was I noticed that when I held the back of the blue pad down with my finger and hit the yellow hard it wouldn't do that, thus I took a tiny peice of box tape and put it on the back of the drum to hold part of the back ring down on the blue drum. After that I could whail away at yellow with nothing registering on blue at all. Easy fix :)

Another thing, the D-pad. Holy shit it is way better then any other D-pad on the 360. Just for kicks I went into Street Fighter 2 Turbo XBLA and was able to get through several rounds on the hardest difficulty. Did fireballs and dragon punches until the cows came home. I know that dosen't matter to Rock Band, but it was quite funny to see how well it worked.

Lastly, the new drum pedal feels really nice. I have a pedal metal mod on my first drum kick and the new one feels just as good as that one.

Overall I am very impressed with how awesome the new kit was. It would have annoyed me to no end if I didn't fix that blue pad thing, but with an easy fix like that I'm not going to hold this thing back from recommending it to everybody that thought the old drums were complete shit.

I'm debating whether to get the RB2 drums. I didnt like the RB1 drums too and they're very loud. Is the noise difference really that huge? Best Buy has it for $79.99 and I got a $10 off coupon + $10 gift card...

Crap, are there any impressions on the new guitar? I hate the strat fwiw, still regret dumping my old xplorers since all we have now is les and strat. Is it better?

I had the same thing happen where the pads seem to be hitting just fine but the bass pedal seemed like it was off. I also have a LCD and never had to calibrate for any other games so I thought they changed the timing or something for Rock Band 2. I decided to try calibrating and sure enough, my problems hitting bass pedal notes went away.

Yes, add me! I'm up for expert drums.

sold my rb drums on craiglist today and ordered the new rb2 drums. i think i'll go with the ghwt guitar for my 2nd guitar, though.

there isn't a wireless mic available, is there?

ign says that the strum bar is a little less mushy but that overall the guitar still isn't as good as the GH ones. Consensus from them is to use that money to invest in the substantially improved drum kit instead.

I'm just going to wait til separates are widely available for both games and we have a good feeling on overall compatibility before making a decision on drums (guitar I'm just going with GHWT. easy choice.)

Dude are you kidding? Lump is awesome!

you have to be joking. you just have to be.

its going to be the Fall Out Boy song of RB2, sucks major ass and sticks in your yead for a week.

i cant wait to play it in 10 different set lists...

WTF?

How is "Ignignokt" not a classy band name?

Does this game have some incredibly strange censorship rules, or is there some other requirement it's going off of.

another 5 hours today. still not done unlocking.

still missing 4 songs

anyone know what cities these are in?

Rise Against - "Give it All"
Rush - "The Trees"
The Sterns - "Supreme Girl"
Dinosaur Jr. - "Feel the Pain"

i know i have to do more bullshit mystery setlists to find them, but since i avoided those in just about every city, i'd rather not do random ones till i find the right one.

I actually saw rush in a fixed setlist (try montreal). Dinosaur Jr. I lucked out in a random slot on a specific setlist.

My campus uses resnet and there seems to be no way to register a console onto resnet. Is there any way I can make my 360 go online?

if they require you to hit a web page to register your mac address, hit the page with your pc, register it's mac, then go into the 360 options and clone your PC's mac address to your 360. if it times out the registration after a period of inactivity, you'll have to do this each time you want to connect.

edit - oh, and you won't be able to have both systems (pc and 360) connected to the network at the same time. or at least turned on at the same time.

I'm so happy that I got the band name I wanted:
"The Davey Grohlton Band" -- I tried "Foo Fighters" originally, but RB2 told me that it had been taken online... Davey Grohlton was my backup... woot.

Any idea when rockband.com will have the RB2 integration set up? Right now it's still RB1 only.

Oh yea.. Want a FREE DLC track?

http://stridelovesrockband.com/

They're giving away a ton every day.. feel free to sign up with random emails, I don't think they check much - I've gotten two codes so far... they essentially give you a token for 160 MS points or whatever, so enough for a song (or two)... it's somewhat random who wins, but hey.. big deal.

Damn. Ok thanks (still wish I had kept my old xplorers then). Looks like I will do the same.

I'm guessing you aren't doing challenge mode, but I saw Dinosaur Jr. show up in either the 2nd or 3rd tier of challenges. I think if you just do the guitar ones you'll be able to get it quickly.
