I just unboxed the new RB2 drums and WOW are they a ton better then #1's.
I absolutely hated #1's because they always felt like I had to hit them with the hammer of thor in order to get a registered hit, which in turn made them really loud.
However upon turning these bad boys on, I found that not only is the material quieter then my felt pads I made for my first kit, but you only have to BARELY tap on the pad for it to work. That is freaking awesome! I can finally drum again without having that concern that I am missing hits because of the shitty pads.
The only problem I have had so far (which I fixed easily) was the blue pad is over-sensitive. When I was messing around in Freestyle mode I noticed that when I hit the yellow pad fairly hard it would sometimes register the blue pad as a weak hit. How I fixed it was I noticed that when I held the back of the blue pad down with my finger and hit the yellow hard it wouldn't do that, thus I took a tiny peice of box tape and put it on the back of the drum to hold part of the back ring down on the blue drum. After that I could whail away at yellow with nothing registering on blue at all. Easy fix
Another thing, the D-pad. Holy shit it is way better then any other D-pad on the 360. Just for kicks I went into Street Fighter 2 Turbo XBLA and was able to get through several rounds on the hardest difficulty. Did fireballs and dragon punches until the cows came home. I know that dosen't matter to Rock Band, but it was quite funny to see how well it worked.
Lastly, the new drum pedal feels really nice. I have a pedal metal mod on my first drum kick and the new one feels just as good as that one.
Overall I am very impressed with how awesome the new kit was. It would have annoyed me to no end if I didn't fix that blue pad thing, but with an easy fix like that I'm not going to hold this thing back from recommending it to everybody that thought the old drums were complete shit.
