It is one of the few WRPGs that doesn't follow the Bioware and Bethesda tropes, therefore it deserves recognition for that. Hopefully the combat is revamped for the sequel, though.

The sadly cancelled console port of the first game looked to have a substantially improved combat system, so I'd have to imagine that the sequel is going to be incorporating those ideas and implementations.

It's not just you; the battle system is the weakest aspect of The Witcher, despite the cool and effective idea of switching your stances on the fly.
