Rocket League suddenly has the most toxic community i've seen. and its a shame.

Yeah I don't understand why so many people are saying this. Toxicity is getting out of hand in the majority of multiplayer games and is inevitably very unhealthy for the community in general. Devs need to take greater steps to address griefing for sure. Honestly, if I see repeated instances of an incredibly toxic community in games, I am more inclined to just wipe my hands of the ordeal and play something else. Occasional insults I can handle, but when it starts creeping into almost every match that's when it's time to stop.

If toxicity was unhealthy to the community then League wouldn't be the most popular game on the planet. I know that riot is going to great lengths to get that under control but clearly this factor isn't hurting their business by much.

"people are dicks, so be a dick!"

thanks we solved it. mp games are now great again

Or have a mental breakdown over a video game, let them ruin your day and break expensive stuff you bought because some kid is calling you a faggot over a video game.

Maybe just not look at the chat? Quit when you match with the player again. Idk.

You're a grown man.

Someone saying "Learn to play" shouldn't be affecting you.

I don't like these responses or the "get a thicker skin" type either. There is a real problem in online gaming that should be addressed. It's not a one off thing it's a constant stream of negativity, toxicity and aggression directed to wards gamers for their skill, race, age or gender. Obviously we shouldn't let strangers get to us but when it happens so often it makes it hard to enjoy yourself and people should understand that rather than telling someone to "man up".

im pretty specific n the actual OP that I don't know what the report function does and would like to know

besides that, there's more than one Psyonix guy on GAF

idk. it's a forum. Im complaining? where people might see? share an experience? vent?

its just a thread man. I was motivated to post it cause I got paired with a guy I reported 3 times and i've seen the community get more hostile since release. is all.

Do you think your complaining on here is going to do anything about it?
Do you think if anyone from Psyonix sees it they're going to do anything about it?
Reporting should do what reporting does in anything it's included in, once they've got enough reports they'll be flagged on a system where they can be dealt with in some way.

You're going to continue experiencing this as long as you play multiplayer games so I think you need to start weighing up if it's worth your time potentially getting so worked up against just not playing at all. Or only play with friends.

I'm not saying "man up and deal with it" but to some degree you do just need to ignore it or move on because you're powerless to change how people act online.

I hate to be that guy who brings a totally unrelated game into the discussion, but this is why I'm actually glad Splatoon doesn't support chat, at least among randoms.

I'm not sure I'd be enjoying that game as much as I am if I had to deal with morons all the time.
Especially since in my case, I probably am playing poorly
Yeah, I'd love to see more online games go down this route. I think Splatoon has been popular enough to prove that it is not only feasible, but actually makes things more enjoyable.

Do you not play a lot of multiplayer games?

People are shits, I learned that quickly playing PC COD where 13 year olds have keyboards. My mentality is I know I'm basically superior to them in everyway so I ignore everything they say.

Playing Heroes of the Storm has actually changed how I perceive this stuff. Comparatively, HotS has a much less toxic community, so when someone is being a twat it really stands out -- so now that I'm less used to it, I notice it affecting me more on the rare occasion it does happen. They're on my team, but it really makes me not want to help or play with them and it's very tempting to sink to their level and get back at them. I imagine that's how people feel that don't usually play games, but they just stop playing because there's no reason they should deal with that bullshit. It's petty and childish -- shouldn't be defended.

If you want to talk shit to people, find a friend that wants it -- show some common decency to random people you don't know. That's how the real world works and I don't see why games should be different.

Nothing new to see here.
It was bound to happen.

Happens to all popular games.
Those said games still have players.
Report, Mute chat and move on.

If you can't maybe these kind of games aren't for you honestly.
But yeah the report function needs some work, it's still beta.

Suddenly? Last I played was around November and there were assholes on my team all the time. That's why I stuck to only playing with friends whenever I wanted to do ranked.

I'm probably a little bit strange, but I really enjoy making other people angry in games. It seems like you've done exactly that. You should be happy :)

Edit: Just to clarify, I enjoy when others get angry at the way I play, I don't intentionally do things to make them angry.

Thread is way over stating the issue, ive had nothing but great matches the past week. Only right at the beginning of season 2 were a few people annoying, pc players with the ability to type insults lol

If someone saying what a save after you miss save is too much for one to handle, its gonna be a hard long life.

For what it's worth I agree it has gotten worse OP. I played back at launch and sure there was people talking crap back then, but having started playing again about a week or so ago I've been noticing lots of it. Not just the typical team mate who decides to rip into you for missing a ball with quick chats either but a LOT of typed messages, and maybe 1 in 10 is a positive thing if I were being generous. Some people seem to be really going at it too.

The quick chat insults from team mates are really annoying too though, especially around my intermediate skill level where I'll go from amazing to useless multiple times in a single game since you've set a standard for yourself and then broken it, but its the usual grilling at the end that turns me away from ranked. I only play 1-2 ranked games a day now since you get piled on for a single bad play a lot of the time. Only upside I'll say it has is it's driving me to want to improve a lot so I can have a bit more fun playing again, being only half good at the game right now is not a comfy place to be since you know once the round ends you're gonna get laid into if you had a bad game.

Bullshit.
It's simply the most popular comptetitive game and EVERY one of them has a toxiv community so relatively it doesn't hurt them but in the grand scheme of things numbers could be WAY higher when I think of all the non-teen players who quit because they grew fed up with the the bullshit.

But maybe a faggot like you shouldn't even argue on this stuff, you should delete your GAF account and never post again. Uninstall your browser, it's better for everyone. I hope you get cancer. Go kill yourself. ;-)

I'm 37 and while I have no life, I have enough consciousness to want to avoid verbal abuse, I've dealt with this in a work environment long enough, thank you very much.

On a Nintendo console.

All of the thriving multiplayer games with chat renders this moot.

Pretty nice assumption to make considering you have no idea what saves/assists I made that game. But okay.

I know how many goals you scored, though.

He still carried you. They scored 4 times on you and he scored 4 goals to tie it. That was a reasonable time to call somebody trash, lol.

I'm one who mutes/disables public chat by default, so I can imagine having to play a teamwork-centric game you love with randoms is a hard place to be in. I'd probably be turned off too.

I gotta be honest, I talk some shit -- nothing racist or offensive -- but I do enjoy the good ol' "GG" or "ez" after the first goal is scored. I get such a kick out of some of the reactions.

I don't see what the platform has to do with anything? Point is, Splatoon proves that multiplayer games can work very well without chat. I would like to see more.

The fact thay most multiplayer games thrive with chat does not invalidate any of this.

The worst part is that those who do this often aren't any good themselves. Sometimes I wonder how they can be so blissfully ignorant.

It's fun, but the most fun when they talk shit back and seem to be socialized enough to not let it shake the very core of their foundation.

Made me LOL.

Is there a support forum you can use to report the guy? That's a bit much to go for one person, but if that guy is really bugging you, you should be able to report him more directly.

Although that hardly solves the problem of a shitty community.

It's a system that is more family friendly than other consoles that also doesn't have nowhere near the infrastructure or community they have.

There's no reason to eliminate voice chat because an E rated game aimed towards children (and adults but not primarily) succeeded without voice chat. It doesn't make sense to eliminate it entirely when the majority of games give you the option to mute it anyways.

What platform you playing on?

I saw a TINY bit of it on PS4 and it's been smooth sailing on Xbox One. Oceania servers in both cases. Is it a South American thing?

a) South American servers. I mean yea it's South America, go figure.

b) welcome to to the internet, this is pretty much the standard. If this bothers you, the internet is not for you.

You lost me when you said something about how it's ok to grief people in fighting games when they lose because etc etc.

To quote Vin Diesel: "being a baby is being a baby, whether you win by an inch, or a mile."

Anyways I find all forms of text griefing in games utterly hilarious, but anyways I can't say I feel RL has an especially bad community. It's a very popular game, so certainly you get lots of matches with babies, but more than the average very popular pvp game? Not my impression, but to be fair, I am not currently playing many of these games.

It really it's a shame that as time goes by, there are more and more assholes using chat, that "what a save spam" after a mistake is surprisingly annoying like adding salt into a wound.

Just a few days I had like 10 matches in a row with this guy were he was always calling me and other guy worthless and stupid and so on, maybe we would have not lost all of those matches if he were playing more and typing less.

But you gotta roll with it, don't let it get to you, trash talk and trolling is fine until certain point, we are all competitive deep inside of us, if they crossed the line just report them / leave the match / mute them. No community is/will be perfect, there will always be that person who ruins everything, and while I don't think anyone should "suck it up" you only need yourself to feel offended/angry/mad. I mean we are talking of a game with 5 mins matches, not 40 mins like DOTA2 or LOL where it is insufferable.

It´s called psychological warfare, and it is a huge part of pretty much every competitive multiplayer game nowadays.

Learn how to handle the heat or go home.

Toughen up, dude. It's a competitive game with trash talk. Letting it get to you says more about you than the game.
I can't comprehend arguments where the person being attacked is the one who is at fault and needs to change their behavior.

Good for you if these assholes don't bother you. But clearly it bothers others. Expecting games to provide options for people not wanting to tolerate abusive assholes, seems reasonable to me.

Reporting/flagging/whatevering a person should at the very least mean you no longer see communication from them or get matched up with them again. Ideally offenders would also see consequences and hopefully learn to be less shitty in the future.

Why is 'not minding being around complete shitheads' a pre-requisite to play games?

It's not a pre-requisite, it's par for the course. Complaining about trash talk in competitive multiplayer games is like complaining about getting sand in your shoe at the beach.

The abused are not at fault, but they probably shouldn't put themselves in a position where abuse is prevalent. Now if this is an argument about changing the behavioral patterns of competitive multiplayer, this is probably not the best way to go about it.

This is not a good analogy. Cultural norms and learned behaviors are not natural kinds.

Salsa, your nick is just salsa?
I think i played with you last night, my team lost (on doubles) my handle is marv. (brazil)

Yes, the SA comunity is very much toxic, also i heard is bad on lol and dota, but i dont know since i dont play these games. i am just amazed how people drop their joysticks missing great plays just to spew hate on the chat.
