Yep! Also I just noticed you get a manual for the Wii game as well. (typical bw w/ nothing of note in it).

Hey, Cool! My first OT to be featured in for something. I'll take it!

Put those two pics in the OP as well :D
Thanks for sharing!

I might pick up a blank Wii case somewhere and print a second cover to make the Wii version of the game its own thing completely.

Yup, planning on doing the same. Still got some leftover cases from first-gen Wii Points Cards :)

My plan is to play both versions I have (Wii, WiiU) and see my thoughts of both. I do find it interesting that the two of them are basically completely different games, however.

But Wii is what I've heard from most that have played it is definitely the better game. I'm willing to give both a chance, though.

Excited to give the Wii version a shot later today. I love the console and I've been waiting for this game for years. I never thought I'd see the day, let alone in the US.

I read the OP. It just mentions the sensation of flying and that it's action. Does it have, for example, enemy-dense armada levels like in on-rails shooters, but with the added (awesome-sounding) benefit of free-roaming flight, allowing you to hit a enemy airship's subsystems from multiple approaches, all while having to dodge its weapons and smaller enemies chasing you? Does it ever reach the intensity of on-rail shooters (while not being one)?

the wii u version never really becomes an on-rails shooter in terms of bullet hell. the main draw is more of the platforming feel of the game versus something like sin & punishment or star fox. it's more nights meets sonic than anything else.

Haha, two Wii U game OT topics for me it seems. Both from the same OP (good job on both of them, btw). :p

I'm really looking forward to this game, being the Naka fan that I am. Wonder how it will stack up to his past works (Sonic, NiGHTS, Billy Hatcher). It's been such a long wait for this game, honestly thought it was gone forever years ago. Now we're in the best reality where we not only get the original Wii game but a new version of the game on Wii U and a handheld version too. Yeesh, never could see that coming all of those years ago when things went quiet.

I hope I'll get my payment this month at the correct time, I really don't want to miss the Wii version. Can't wait every since it was announced!

The (later) boss fights are pretty similar to what you describe, but not so much the main levels
although one-late game level will make S&P fans happy
. The game's action component mostly comes from score-attacking. In order to collect enough gems to earn the highest medal in each level you need to increase your multiplier by chaining together long attack combos without taking damage or touching the ground or walls, and getting the best time trials medals requires you to maneuver through each level with speed and precision while avoiding obstacles. Simply completing the levels, however, will rarely put your action game skills to the test.

the wii version of the game is wonderful. played through the whole thing twice back-to-back when it launched. felt like an undiscovered dreamcast game getting released in 2015. it's pure joy.

the wii u version is...not so great. sorry anihawk, i didn't find it to be much fun at all. :(

i really hope this does better in NA than it did in japan. regardless it's clear there will never be a sequel, or anything quite like it ever again.

I have the Wii U/Wii bundle preordered and in my possession but forgot to cancel and won't be able to keep it due to financial troubles :(

I'm getting kind of bummed reading about how the Wii version got shafted.

I might consider picking it up next year after finishing all these RPGs if the Wii version is still easily available by then.

Bought the Wii U version. Conceptually, it's really good. When the controls don't fight against you it's really fun. Can't play the Wii disc, but I imagine that version is great.

I forgot I ordered and have it in my hands now. Is it worth keeping or should I return? I do love Sin and Punishment and Sonic, but this game doesn't seem like it is similar to those from what I've seen. Yes I am referring to the Wii Version.

Got mine, will try in a few. Will try Wii U first, then Wii.

The regular edition is still a nice deal. Two discs, 2 booklets (or whatever a folded page in half is) and reversible cover.

Man there's so much going on right now, but this feels like one of those special games where if you don't get it (the Wii version especially) now you may miss the chance to have it in your collection. Does that seem to be the case? What are the chances of first edition (or whichever version has both discs) copies being in shelves long enough to get clearanced out?

it's similar to them in style and spirit, not so much in mechanics. there are shooting segments similar to s+p, and there is a focus on speed and route memorization similar to sonic, but the game is definitely it's own unique thing.

if you have an affinity for colorful, arcadey platformers and action games you should definitely keep it. i obviously can't guarantee you'll love it, but despite it's minor flaws it was one of my favorite games from the past few years. it feels like the kind of thing i imagined games would be like in the future after playing stuff like nights and mario 64 as a kid.

By the way, to the OP: the Wii U version is 30 fps. Just tried it out to confirm for myself. (Then immediately put the Wii U disc back in the jewel case where it will remain forever.)

I would compare the game's combat to Gravity Rush, not Sin & Punishment. It mostly involves waiting for the right time and finding the right arc to zoom at enemies and bash their weak points.

The Wii U version is 30FPS, but the Wii version - the inferior hardware - is 60FPS.

I mean, it was already known that they'd dropped the ball with that version by messing with the gameplay, but that's certainly not helping matters!

Played the Wii version for an hour and a half, it's pretty fun, but a bit clunky at times. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but it's a pretty decent game. I figure at the very least this will be a nice collector's item one day. It is pretty fun to be playing a brand new Wii game 9 years after the system came out.

60 uncapped. Had multiple experiences where it drops into the sub 20s. Game is still boss, though.

the main flaw with the control system is that if you get stuck in a corner or in a situation with no visible terrain in range to lock on to, it can be somewhat difficult to reorient yourself, and in the case of the final boss this can lead to pretty annoying death spirals since geometry that doesn't kill you when you touch it is pretty scarce.

that's kind of part of the challenge though, and it smooths out a lot once your routing improves.

Good to know. Another issue is that when you have the dash shoes you don't bounce off the things you dash into and instead you run up them and it becomes very difficult to navigate. Maybe I am just playing it wrong though.

I didn't even know about this and now I'm sad I missed out on the cool edition. Might pick it up from BB since they carry it and I have GCU, but I'm a little scrapped for cash and have so much to play anyway.

What's the verdict? People liking it?

I only played the first 2 or 3 chapters, but the basic movement of the Wii version is really unique. You point at where you want to fly (areas/ items/ enemies that are close enough) and your wrist flick controls the arc, and the direction of the path of flight. Once you start to get used to it, it has a wonderful sense of movement, not unlike Nights. It shares a lot of the same feeling too. You can walk as well, but if you are you are doing it wrong.

The game is pretty good thus far. The Wii and the Wii u versions have the same levels but one is meant to explore the little islands as a platformer while the other is more like linear, I guess.
They left the boost pads in the Wii u version while removing it's functionality which Is a big mess up.
Edit: I guess they use it later?

Question to those playing the Wii version: I've noticed when picking up those yellow fragments (can't recall the in-game name, sorry), sometimes I zip through them all automatically (like a boost), and other times I don't and need to pick them up one by one. Is there a way to always collect them as if I'm boosting through them?

Hopefully that's not worded too poorly. Thanks in advance!

if they're evenly spaced in a row you should always be able to boost through them. afaik it depends entirely on your angle of approach. try to hit the row as straight as possible by adjusting your arc as needed. you can also fly straight forward just by tapping and releasing b without moving the pointer.

Yeah, I've had much better luck now that I've gotten used to the controls a bit more. Thanks!

During the prologue, I fell off and anger to catch myself before falling off, but it took like 3 minutes to get back on the path...
I hope this isn't the norm.

I've been kinda on the fence about this game. It wasn't at my local Target either so I couldn't get it as part of their B2G1 Free deal. :/ It also doesn't help that reviews of the game are only for the Wii U version since apparently the gaming press didn't get the Wii version for review.

I still find the development process for this game so weird. You would think that NIS/Kadokawa would have just upressed the game to the Wii U and have it be compatible with the Wii Remote. But now there's two completely different versions of the same game in one package. It's very unusual and it's like you're getting the original game with its remixed version in one package. So like 1.5 games in one? I'll be keeping my eye on this game for sure.

Another surprise while I was at Target: other publishers/developers are STILL making Wii games. I saw Just Dance 2016 and Skylanders Supercharged for both Wii and Wii U, separately available for purchase of course. Why couldn't NIS do that? Is that TOO niche? Do they not have enough money like Ubisoft and Activision to do that?
I think I just answered my own question. Lol.

I'm so pissed.

I preordered this game at Best Buy using GCU. I went to go pick it up today, and they can't find it. They told me they would go to another store and pick it up then call me to get it tomorrow. I thought getting the Wii game was a pre-order bonus, unless all first prints have the Wii game. I don't even have a Wii U, so if they screwed it up where I can't get the Wii version I'm going to lose it.

Every copy available right now has the Wii game in the case. It's not just preorders or a limited edition thing (yet).

Wii version isn't a preorder bonus. It's first print so it's in every Wii version.
