Oh, and because people been talking Shin Godzilla, here's my review from a few months ago when it made it's limited run.
I'm fascinated by reactions that treat the obvious low-key satire the whole thing is as if it's some serious, straight-faced political drama.
It's a flat episode of Parks 'n' Rec, but with a Godzilla in it.
This week's issue hasn't gone live yet. Should happen in an hour or two.
I went to see it with a group and older people who were around for the original trilogy, played video games, board games, etc loved it. The prequel fans were 'meh'.
Thought this was cool, jumping to hyperspace through the years (also just now realized the Falcon cockpit changed slightly between ANH and ESB):
I have the option of seeing in IMAX 3D or regular screen 2d viewing. What do we think? I'm not a big fan of 3D but I do like IMAX.
Thanks for this. Do you think the characters were generally satisfactory?K-2SO steals the goddamn show.
Jones does well as the lead character,
Her co-star is no Poe Dameron tho.
Thanks. How were you guys able to see it early?Headed in to work now. Will post a link to my spoiler free review at the Mercury when it goes live this AM
What does that even mean? That TV movies don't have climaxes? If you like TV movies sure.
IMO, yes.Does Donnie Yen get good fight scenes?
Thanks. How were you guys able to see it early?
Its out here today went to the first IMAX screening possible at 11 AM today.Thanks. How were you guys able to see it early?
Always IMAX. But 70mm 2D IMAX is the best option.
Me said:The kind of hope at Rogue One’s center isn’t triumphant and rewarding like the original. Instead of using its prequel status to scatter winking references like buckshot (although it does indulge a few times too many) it leans on the inevitability of its premise—these are the doomed spies who stole the Death Star plans—to give the characters a more muted victory, the kind that sets up a better future for their loved ones, whether or not they see it themselves. Those characters are sketched in very quickly, and if this had been anything like the prior efforts of director Gareth Edwards, that would have been a problem—he wasted his casts in Monsters and Godzilla, sticking them to the surface of his frame like emotionless Colorforms. (Of Edwards’ multiple stylistic similarities to George Lucas, this is the most troublesome.) But much as the cast of Star Wars saved Lucas’ ass in ’77, the rogues assembled for its prequel bring an abundance of heart and personality.
I was able to obtain this lovely poster. 1 of 3.

Imperial Director Krennic gets lost in the sauce as the movie barrels to its packed climax, his oily initial impression stays good to the last sneer.

How appropriate is this movie for an 8 year old? Is it really a lot more intense/scary/mature than the other Star Wars films?
Good review, nice to have you back. How's Giacchino's score? I usually enjoy his music but four weeks must have been a bit of a rush. Kristian Harloff didn't seem to like it at all.

It's definitely the most adult Star Wars ever. I would put it somewhere near the Nolan Batman movies in terms of kid-friendliness (if not a bit darker in places).
It's a Giacchino score! I have yet to hear a bad one of those. I bet he got annoyed because there's a fair amount of sideways interpretations of Star Wars stuff. Meaning the score seems like it's gonna go one way, and then slides like two steps to the left of it. He keeps the chords & the chord progressions but points them somewhere else. I could see that frustrating a guy who just wants the hits. Most of this music is original, and the references to Williams' stuff is pretty minor.
I really liked the score, and I really wished it was FUCKING OUT ALREADY LIKE IT SHOULD BE so I could listen to it right now.
Didn't TFA's score come out early last year?
I wonder why they didn't do it with Rogue One? I'm aching for the score myself.
I have a feeling this movie was saved in editing and reshots much like the Original Star Wars.

It very much plays as if this was the only version of the story there ever was, even though we all know by now that's not the case. It's probably the best effect, honestly. There's convincing you that a ship is real, a creature is tangible, this landscape existsand then there's convincing you this film is a cohesive whole that locks together tightly even when we know they had to go to work on it to get it in shape.
Is there any connective tissue to the new trilogy at all?
Damn, this is hype. Heard it a few times. Its out here today went to the first IMAX screening possible at 11 AM today.
Also its 100% worth it, it was amazing best SW movie to date imo.
I don't know if it NEEDED to be told, but necessity or not, it's the fourth best film in the series, and the gap between it and the next film down is pretty big.
My initial reaction was that it felt like a very good adaptation of a Dark Horse Comic that doesn't exist.

In 3D. Originally 2D, converted during post-production. Filmed with Arri Alexa cameras equipped with Ultra Panavision 70 lenses. IMAX 2D 70mm DMR version to be released on select screens in the US and abroad. 7 minute preview of Dunkirk attached at selected IMAX 70mm locations.
