Obviously not as well as Federer. It's just stupid coming in and going on about Nadals superior mental toughness right after he gets knocked out in the 3rd round and just as Federer makes his 20th straight semi final.

While I agree that Serena is not very nice, I will repeat my previous sentiments: You don't really get sports, do you?

She's saying that she didn't fight as hard as she could've, or that there were obvious mistakes that she didn't fix, effectively "giving" the match away to the opponent. Whether or not she's correct in her unwillingness to give the opponent credit is a different issue, but athletes feeling that they gave the victory away is not something she's making up.

Nadal, maybe the best example of a competitor, only talks about his own mistakes when asked about his losses. He's a little nicer than Serena about it (he'll toss in a "For sure, he played great and deserved to win") but you can tell that his focus is on what he himself did or failed to do.

Yeah, pretty much all the commentators are blasting Serena for her comments but i'm the one who doesn't get it? :lol

Great second set from Kuz / Stosur. Hope Sammy can break back now, but I doubt it.
 
Am I the only one who thinks Kuznetsova has a shot in the final? I just have this feeling Safina is going to be tight ... again.

That's not to say I'll be rooting for Svetlana; I want Safina to win. The women's tour really needs a star, and I think Safina could be it for the short term, at least.

As for the men, I don't think anyone should say Fed's got it in the bag. He's definitely got it in the bag on paper, but so did Nadal - and we all know how that turned out.

I doubt Del Potro will do much to him tomorrow, but if Soderling makes it through his semi and he's still riding high, Fed better watch out.
 
I don't know how you can dislike someone for caring so much about their sport that they cry after an important loss.

Del Potro has seemed very strong mentally, the question is if he's expanded his game to take out Federer. The answer is no, but if Federer loses the first set then anything can happen.


And yeah, I find myself rooting for Safina here as well, because she's really been the best, met formidable opposition in Azarenka yet came back, and it would put some credibility to her ranking. Still, I put money down on Kuznetsova to win before the tournament started so I'm split.
 
There are plenty of reasons to dislike Federer, IMO, but crying at the Australian Open shouldn't be one of them...

You bet on Kuzbetsova before the tournie began? Why was that? Although, come to think of it, I'm not sure who I thought would win... I guess I just assumed Safina would do it for once :)
 
I thought Safina would win, but the odds for Kuznetsova were good, she's been consistent in the clay season, and whaddayaknow, here she is in the finals -- So it wasn't such a bad bet.
 
I want Graf to come out of retirement just long enough to play Serena, beat her, make her see how a true champ carries herself and then go back into retirement :)

Since that isn't likely, though, I'll settle for more matches like the Kuznetsova one the other day :)

Hmmm, I certainly wouldn't place any money on that. Neither one of them seems to be doing well these days. No idea who will replace them in the final, though. Sure would be nice to see Muresmo make good on her comeback, but I'm not going to hold out hope about that...

She decided while prepping for her exhibition match against Graf (held at Wimbledon just before the French started) that she was going to try a comeback. Supposed to start during the lead up to the US Open.
 
Ugh, so Tennis Channel isn't showing the men's semis... only NBC will. And of course it won't be live. I hate it when they do this, with their shared broadcast rights. Hooray for bad quality streams =/

2006 after beating Marcus Baghdatis in the final. As much of a Federer fan as I am, Baghdatis' expressions after Federer congratulates him and when Federer starts crying when he thanks Rod Laver @ 2:43! THE DISGUST!

I don't know why there's doubts with Federer beating Del Potro, i'll admit i hate Del Potro because the argentinians in ESPN Latin America have been overrating him for 2 years or so... but seems like DelPo has finally reached a very good level.

I'm not one to defend Feder-cry, but Nadal was only 3-0 against Soderling and that included a tough 5 setter at Wimbledon. Gonzalez is only 4-3 against Soderling. Still you're right, Soderling has stepped up his game and should smoke the cry baby.

Monfils had knee issues, healthy he would have put up a better struggle. He still gave Federer a challenge in that first set. Don't count out Del Potro, the kid is on fire, hopefully he can win and set up an interesting final against Soderling. Enough of this Fed BS.

Gonzalez is the only guy left in the draw who has a win against Federer before. So I'm not concerned even if Gonzalez comes back to win cause he'll beat Fed too. :lol


Entertaining match so far for sure though. Both guys are hitting big.

funny how his knee didn't seem to be an issue until he played federer. did he have knee issues the other 4 times they played and federer won?
