If Federer wants to win, he's gonna have to hit a zillion drop shots so he can get tall ass Del Potro to the net more often so he can pass him.

ETA: Oh snap. Fed DFs to go 3 BPs down

So I read that Del Potro best result against Federer is losing one set 5-7, he never won a set against Roger.

Nice call there. As he's about to go up 2 breaks on Fed I salute you. :lol

aaaand deuce as Del Potro goes down. Roger doesn't need this game, but I'd feel much better if he won it.

There it is. Now break him!

Well, what I said it's totally true, at this moment DelPo never won a set. An as I said, he will do that today.

5-3 Del Potro

Maybe I don't give this fool enough credit. But the match (and the set) ain't over yet

ETA: :lol at the return lob by Del Potro

I'm sure Fed will pull it out, even if Del Potro takes him to five there's no way in my mind that he doesn't choke in the final set. If it's a Del Potro vs. Soderling final though... ugh.

To be honest that would be a deserved final for the two best players so far in this torunament.

Honestly Fed's form hasn't been all that great this FO, but it certainly looks good in comparison to all the other top seeds'.

I know, but that's mostly because the top seeds--who are usually capable of playing much better tennis-have been dropping like flies. Not that Soderling or Del Potro are bad players, far from it, but there's no way you can say that they are better than prime Fed / Nadal with a straight face. Well, maybe Del Potro, given that he's young and has time to grow, but Soderling is just having a dream run right now, and whether or not he wins in the final I don't think he's going to win another.

Federer will never win the French Open. There's no more "oh well there's always next year"...this was his chance and it's over.

You do realize that he'll most likely beat Del Potro (probably steamrolling him in the fourth or fifth set, whichever is last) and defeat a tired Soderling, yes?

I blame Madrid.

It's not just Nadal, where are players like Verdasco? How does Djokovic go out to fucking Kohlschreiber? Why is Fed getting taken to four by players like PHM in a slam? Murray obviously no one was expecting anything from, but ultimately what it means is that a lot of the best players have been in poor form, allowing good, consistent players like Del Potro and streaky players like Gonzo or (apparently) Soderling to take advantage of the situation. There's nothing wrong with that, and indeed it would be dumb if they didn't, but it still annoys me.

Del Potro is in control so far. If it has to go 5 sets Federer will be just as tired as Soderling, and Soderling showed today he can gut it out against a hard hitter like Gonzalez. He's battle ready.
You are not taking the choke factor into acount.

Well, Verdasco is a joke normally, the big three have made a good Madrid tournament, let's not forget that Roger was about to lose with Haas, I really think that Madrid fucked up their RG prep.

Or they are using a new and strange clay and balls :lol

This is far easier for Del Potro than even I imagined it could be. :lol He'll break now and take the 2nd set 6-3.

Why does Fed keep hitting it straight to Del Potro in those longer rallies?

Lack of confidence, poor footwork, and it's just not the same Fed. He's lost at least 1/2 step compared to a few years ago or even last year.
