This was a pretty shitty movie IMO.

I mean sure, it had eye-candy like Isabel Lucas and Megan Fox, some funny moments here and there but on the whole, I was bored and unimpressed. I also don't like how the decepticon(sp?) look so dark coloured. I remember in the cartoon series, Megatron was white/grey. Fuck this shit.

Also, WHERE THE FUCK WAS SOUNDWAVE?!

Okay. You could maybe make a case for this. But, how did they know he had the Matrix? And isn't it convenient that they grabbed his parents days earlier, while they were in Paris no less, just in case they needed them to distract Sam in the desert in Egypt on the off chance that he'll discover the Matrix of Leadership 17,000 years after it was sealed in a tomb that hasn't been found in that time?

It would have made a lot more sense for them to grab the parents, then show them on TV and tell Sam to turn himself in, as it was implied that they were going to do. Shitty storytelling across the line.
Sam just escaped from Megatron, so they kidnapped his parents. It's pretty common in movies/TV for villains to kidnap family members of the hero to draw him out.

You're looking too far into a simple plot point when there's plenty more legitimate things wrong with the movie.

You really didnt watch the movie did you?

:lol

ok I lied

no really, I didn't see him for maybe more than 5 seconds.

edit: oh wait, was he the dude raping that satellite? if so, what an injustice to the best bot in the franchise.

Yep. He went from a boombox to a satelite molester. :D

At least he still had his awesome voice.

I do understand that it is a common plot point for family members to get kidnapped, but usually there is a payoff for it, and in Transformers 2, there wasn't, just dumping them in the desert.

And I agree that there are tons bigger problems, the only reason it was brought up was because someone else asked about it a page or so back, and a few of us posted thoughts on it.

BTW did anyone else notice how the egyptian border patrol let BOTH cars through even though they were all in just one? WTF?

Shit makes no sense.

You don't understand, they are from New York.

New York.

Not counting my handful of posts today, I've barely touched this thread in the past week, but you're still sprinkled through out. You also happen to have nearly twice as many posts overall, so I'm not sure why you'd call someone out about them still posting in here sprinkles.

:lol

I just went back through the past like 8 pages. It's pretty even, with some of my posts being "glad to see the movie doing well!"

But the fact that you're seriously starting an argument over something so stupid, because you've run out of things to nitpick about the movie, is hilariously stupid and immature,

To be fair, you're the one who brought out the "you're still in here two weeks later" argument, and there are plenty of things to rail on the movie about. But, I agree it's a silly argument. Your condescending "sweetie" was the annoyance that set me off a bit.

A proposed truce. Neither of us posts in here again? ;)

Sounds good to me.

I just find it kind of weird in any case, doesn't matter what movie or TV show or whatever, when people just continue to be negative about it over and over. Okay, we get it, you don't like it. (And it's especially funny with your avatar. :P)

So why not just let the thread be left to people who do like it, instead of a constant spout of negativity? And if that causes the thread to die, then so be it. I couldn't imagine going into a GTA thread just to say over and over how overrated I think it is. It's just silly.

Wel you might not be able to imagine it, but it happens. It really does. The most recent thread I remember is the one for the Modern Warfare 2 reveal trailer. People were so determined to shit on that game.

That's exactly what I had done for the most part. The only other post I've made in here were to tell some people to stop laughing at the drop offs last week because it was already a huge success. Who cared if it dropped 60%, it's going to be over $300 million.

The only reason I posted at all last night was because someone asked about the particular scene and I commented on it. There were a couple of more replies back and fourth, and than you dropped in with your comment about why I as still posting in here.

The inverse could be said about your posts as well. "Alright, we get it, you loved it!" But, regardless, I won't burden you again with my thoughts on the film. I won't post another comment.

Lord of The Rings Return of the King and Pirates Dead Men Chest made more money than The Dark Knight.

And the Dark Knight didn't made that much more money than Harry Potter. The Dark Knight didn't made Titanic esque numbers....Titanic closed in on 2 billion....

It appears we're talking domestic vs. worldwide numbers again, lolz.

An interesting TDK factoid: It's the only movie in the all time top 20 to do more in the US than in the foreign markets.

:lol He linked the Robot Chicken Bayplosion sketch. Ebert is awesome.

As an aside, I quite like this quote:

But am I out of touch? It's not a critic's job to reflect box office taste. The job is to describe my reaction to a film, to account for it, and evoke it for others. The job of the reader is not to find his opinion applauded or seconded, but to evaluate another opinion against his own. But you know that.

Best quote from that Ebert blogpost:

Ebert said:
So let's focus on those who seriously believe "Transformers" is one of the year's best films. Are these people wrong? Yes. They are wrong. I am fond of the story I tell about Gene Siskel. When a so-called film critic defended a questionable review by saying, "after all, it's opinion," Gene told him: "There is a point when a personal opinion shades off into an error of fact. When you say 'The Valachi Papers' is a better film than 'The Godfather,' you are wrong." Quite true. We should respect differing opinions up to certain point, and then it's time for the wise to blow the whistle. Sir, not only do I differ with what you say, but I would certainly not fight to the death for your right to say it. Not me. You have to pick your fights.

I think this could be used in a lot of GAF arguments.

He pulled out a good Douglas Adams quote later on in the responses as well:

All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.

Those who think "Transformers" is a great or even a good film are, may I tactfully suggest, not sufficiently evolved. Film by film, I hope they climb a personal ladder into the realm of better films, until their standards improve. Those people contain multitudes. They deserve films that refresh the parts others do not reach. They don't need to spend a lifetime with the water only up to their toes.

So even Ebert can't resist continuing to try and harp his opinion on everyone else?

This is almost like the Gaming forum in regards to the Wii when this generation started.

Did you watch the movie? The Decepticons kidnapped them as bait. They even referred to them as "bait."

Why does an army of super advanced robots need bait? They didn't even bait him, Sam never knew they were kidnapped. Good bait tactics from these super advanced robots.

Bay needed the parents in egypt because there weren't enough humans in the final act for him. :lol

And yours on his? The difference is that it's his job to review movies. Is yours to slander one of the most respected film critics of all time?

Reverse defensive am fail.

It's the people who kept spamming Ebert into this article. I say well deserved.

Boof: You need to run and hide, mom and dad!
Dad: No we can't leave you!
Boof:GO!
Dad: Ok..

Boof:You too, nice piece of ass!
Fox: No I can't leave you!
Boof: Ok. Let's run in slow-mo through explosions together.

Maybe its just me, but I wasnt caring too much on the story.

I just loved seeing the huge robots ripping the shit out of each other - and it totally exceeded in that area. I think it was designed with like 10-12 year olds in mind who don't care about story but giant mecha-bots blowing shit up.

While I disagree with him, this is equally dumb. Only hot people can judge other hot people? Looks are partially subjective, dude.

I saw the movie last night. It makes Mortal Kombat Annihilation look like Citizen Kane.

That is going way too far. The MKA is close to the worst movie of all time and certainly the worst movie I have ever seen in the theater along with Spawn and The Black Mask.

On visuals alone TF2 is a better movie, let alone actors who actually believe the situation they are in, and direction (like it or hate it). MKA has no redeeming qualities.

And you'd be 100% right... which is why it's made 300 million in the US and just as much overseas. It's obviously something a LOT of people like to see, and apparently see more than once.

A guy at work, 32, thinks Transformers 2 is the best film ever. He's serious. Not ironic in any way. Not like 'Awesome robots, I love this film'. He actually thinks it's the best piece of cinema ever produced.

Clearly he's not evolved.
Seriously, meant every bit of it.

What? I thought Megatron crash landed on the northpole or wherever, and the humans just kept him frozen, till the little bugger melted him.
These robots travel through vaccum at absolute 0 temp without so much as blinking an eye and the movie expects us to believe that temperatures some 200 degrees higher somehow stop them.
Yea, no. He either froze/stasised himself on purpose, or the plot of the first movie is even more idiotic then I thought.

Fuck i'd rather sit through those than watch TF2 again, least they're shorter.
