I'm about 50 hours in Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch. I've been enjoying the gameplay and the visuals. But the censorship really annoys me at times. I'm on chapter 6. So I'm almost done with the game.
Been playing Trails in the Sky Third Chapter. I just got past the prolonge, so far it's been really fun. I love the battle system. My favorite Trails in the Sky game is the second game so far.

I managed to get out of the Hinterlands in DA:I.
The game is actually starting to get good, but dear God: the start is terrible. Utterly terrible. I would legit fire whoever is responsible for the first hour or three. That person is probably the reason there was no follow up game. How many people loaded up the Hinterlands and went "this is tedious and boring and plays like crap" before refunding?

So, I either I forgot how hard Xenoblade Chronicles was or Ive forgotten how to play this Game properly. Getting my ass handed to me early on.

I'd say they're all pretty good except for Charlotte. I only used her in my party to get the trophies related to her.

Finally sat down with Assassin's Creed Origins from shelf. No Witcher 3 but strangely reminiscent of old school JRPGs, in that player moves across enormous world map from town to town helping villagers while defeating tentpole bosses from nefarious political organization.
I never thought an AC game could feel more like a 16bit JRPG than modern day FF. Setting alone is insane, an entire country, countless towns, massive cities, a non abstracted overworld just stuffed with details. Could the upcoming Valhalla with ship travel/base building be my spritual successor to Suikoden/Skies of Arcadia?

Agreed, that was a fantastic game. Had to google what the true ending was in case I missed something, but it was the one I got. What happened when you beat the game without the true ending?

You don't get any send off whatsoever with Dana. The Earth Gaia is just like you're here because she sacrificed herself. Then everyone gets on the ship and heads home.
In my replay of Final Fantasy IX on Steam. The Moguri mod makes it so nice, game is gorgeous.

I wish whoever the hell owns the rights to Lunar the Silver Star would release it again on some modern platform. I played it on PSP as a kid and would love to play it again (PSP is long dead, don't want to buy another for one game).

Since a lot of games are pushed back and there's more time to play other games, I've made this the summer of RPGs for me. I have so many I'm trying to finish that I never did, and also throw in some that I did, but want to play again. Through most of my gaming life I was all RPG all the time, but about 10 years ago I changed course because I realized I was missing out on so many other great genres by only focusing on RPGs. And RPGs take up so much time I decided I'd rather play 4 games a month than one.
Having done that so many RPGs have piled up in my backlog. Here is the massive list of games I plan to tackle over the next year+:

Is this your top pick for RPGs on the PS2 or the best one at that price range? Trying to eventually get the top 5 best RPGs on the system (price be damned).
Also thoughts on the Final Fantasy games 10-12? I know they’re real cheap but are they worth the time investment?

I just found out that I will be receiving a huge care package of games and systems from a relative who collected for years but doesn’t want them anymore. SNES, Wii, PS2, and GameCube. The noteworthy RPGs he's sending are The Last Story and Tales of Symphonia : Dawn (Wii). Anyone play these particular games? Good, Bad, Decent?

Like both of them. Only finished Tales of those two. Got far in TLS, but my Wii stopped reading dual layered discs and everything was skippy. Once I got the Wii U, I just never had the motivation to go back.

Valkyrie Profile 2 is the best PS2 game there is in my humble opinion.
FFX is a story-driven linear adventure. Was too linear for my taste, but if you play games mostly for the story it's great.
FFXI is an MMORPG know as the MMORPG with the strongest party-support, like there's no point even playing it alone.
FFXII is an offline MMORPG, basically plays like an MMORPG but all other characters are AI controlled. You can actually code the AI so it's pretty cool. It features a huge world and dungeons, but may feel a bit empty of content.

The Last Story is worth playing alone for the unique experience. It's the only (non-MMORPG) game I know where you basically take the role of the tank. Overviewing the situation, giving commands and making sure your spellcasters don't die.

Glad to hear it. Never had the opportunity to play the RPGs on the Wii so I’m looking forward to diving in.
I'm playing Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and it feels like a quick cash grab. No world map exploration. Reused locations. Katz quests are just reused over and over again. Bad voice acting and not so great story.
On PC, I am playing Dungeon Rats. Damn, you got to be on your toes at all times. Every combat encounter feels challenging.

I'm now playing Persona for PS1. I decided to finally get around to finishing this game, and get into the series after all these years lol. It's going pretty good.
Like most of you I'm a big-time RPG fanatic/nut and I have a huge (imo) backlog of RPGs to finish. I'm mostly into Japanese-style RPGs circa Super Nintendo and the first PlayStation era. I would usually buy and collect, and re-play ones I truly enjoyed & built up a nice backlog over the course of years doing that.
I decided to finally take care of it about four years ago, and finally got online to see what was up? Made a B-line for this thread once I joined up!

Well I beat Persona.
I decided to go back to an all-time classic Chrono Trigger for SNES. This game seriously takes my breath away, y'all. I forgot how much fun it was to play. I'm trying to take my time and enjoy the game, and not rush.
I really want to do things like enjoy the scenery and look at the water lol.
I've beaten this game before for sure but it's been so long that I just consider it like I just have forgotten everything about it.

I play older games and older RPGs all the time! I still buy new games now-and-then just to keep up with RPGs but I always go back in time to my past recently because of realizing these games are just in my backlog; But I like to re-play classics I know that I will enjoy.
Sometimes new games are such an endeavor you don't know if you will enjoy it or not like the mechanics and what-not.
I don't ever think a game is ever "too old" to enjoy. I say just pick it up and give it a whirl.

What is the consensus on the Torchlight series? Torchlight 2 is free on the Epic store right now - I have copies of the original on PC and 360 that I have never played as well. What's worth trying?
I really should have gotten Dragon Quest XI on the Switch instead of PS4 - my family barely leaves me any time with the main TV where the PS4 is located. At this rate, I will beat the game sometime after my 8 year old leaves for college.

Torchlight 1&2 are great for people who liked Diablo 1&2 and don't mind the more comic-like art style. It feels like while Diablo 3 was like "Let's add more stuff to this concept", Torchlight was the opposite and went "Let's keep it simple."

I just completed the monastery portion of the main quest line in Kingdom Come Deliverance, where I had to infiltrate/join a monastery, identify someone who assumed a new identity and then either assassinate him, let him go or bring him to justice. It was a little tedious going through the daily monk schedule, with only a few hours each day to do some detective work, but it was a totally unique RPG experience, for me anyways.
Now I’m back at Sasau and need to decide on wether to continue with the main quest or complete the second half of The Woman’s Lot DLC. All the DLC really adds a substantial amount of time to the game. I’m already at 89 hours and I could easily see myself hitting the 120+ hour mark, trying to complete the majority of what the game has to offer.

Currently playing Atelier Ryza in anticipation for the Sequel.
I like how it is presented but I can tell they cut corners a lot for this game.
Japanese Dub only, one Save Location in the entire game and you can...pass through NPCs roaming about???
I hope I can understand the battle system as I don't get the Combo Mechanic that well or whether to use the Items for Battling.
My first Atelier experience too (I own Shallie on Vita but not played it yet).
I might do a write up on SEGA RPGs soon so please look forward to that!!!

It's a fantastic game - honestly one of the all-time greats for me. I hit 108 hours according to GOG galaxy, a level I've only ever previously hit with Football Manager games.

So far it’s really good. I am playing the European version so it’s all subtitles but the Japanese voices are sublime. The only issue I have with the game are the graphics. There is a texture effect I am not sure is to resemble canvas or if it’s a legit artifact when docked. I don’t mind it but it’s odd.
Performance has been great so far. I am looking forward to finishing it and getting into the sequel when it releases.

Seconded on this. Torchlight was actually a relief after Diablo 3 because it felt like the Torchlight team was like, "let's just focus on what players are here for." It sometimes gets knocked for the art style, but I remember the "emerge" animations for a lot of the creatures were pretty badass.

26 hours into Atelier Ryza and I am completely addicted to this game. I am still under half way through the game. I moved the switch to a 27” IPS monitor and the texture issues with the shadows are rarely noticeable now.
I can say without a doubt this is my favorite JRPG in a while. I am digging how vibrant and performant this game runs on the switch too.
I think I will be purchasing all the US DLC which seems to work on the Euro physical edition.
I am really hyped about part 2. The forgiveness of dying feels right and lack of a time attack for quests is what really make this a pleasure to just get that slice of life plus alchemy game play perfect IMO.
