The biggest disappointment for me is that nvidia never supported SteamOS.

I am hoping this changes real quick at CES.
Nvidia's official linux support did improve a lot this year.

Also of interest, the open source NVK driver is close to being ready for prime time. Nobara linux (maintained by Glorious Eggroll who does the best version of Proton) is now shipping NVK by default:

The main engineer behind the Steam Deck praised NVK's rapid progress in late 2023:

2025 = year of the nvidia linux desktop

Ill keep an eye on this. I want my Bazzite Gamescope interface with all the nvidia bells and whistles incorporated.

Valve needs to save us from Windows.

I suspect some are confusing failures with disappointments.

I think the biggest disappointment of the year was Metaphor. I found it incredibly tedious. The visuals, story and characters did nothing for me, and I bounced off it pretty hard.

I’ve bounced off a few games this year, including Dragon’s Dogma 2, although I at least enjoyed a good deal of my time with that one. I just think the game itself wasn’t compelling enough for me to complete it. I’ve also reached that point with DA:V - kind of enjoyable, but a bit meh on the whole.

Silent Hill 2 not receiving a solid Pro patch has also been a disappointment.

Probably Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for me.

Boring repetitive side content and far too much of it.

Last third of the game as a whole is as boring as can be and very dragged out (especially chapters 10, 11 and 13).

I really liked Remake but this was quite a bit worse than that.

Concord is a disappointment only if you had expectations
I had none, it was something to forget since the first teaser

My choice is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, way toooooooooooooo long and filled with useless things

I think for me it was metaphor.

I also thought dragons dogma 2 & ff7 rebirth sucked, but I didn’t have expectations for them. I did for metaphor and it just didn’t hit the mark at all.

By far my biggest disappointment is the cancellation of Last of Us Online.

Veilguard is not a disappointment. Even if you're shaking with rage seeing women in a videogame, it's easily the best Bioware game since 2014.
Nah, even andromeda was better, even if just by 0.5 score point.

Better combat, better banter between companions, no taash trash tier character, not even the black dude with cringe combat lines, and you can be a cunt sometimes, and not just various gradation of goody 2 shoes.

Veilguard is not a disappointement because everyone with half a brain saw the writing on the wall years ago, it's like going into mcdonald and expecting to eat healthy food.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the destruction of Rocksteady. What a clusterfuck of stupid decisions.

Absolutely getting Bioware and Anthem flashbacks from that one. Why put a good studio behing a GaaS game? And an IP that no one cares for.. boneheaded and braindead execs, thats what.

2024 was kind of a disappointment as a whole for me in gaming. I've gone back and replayed games from prior years, like BG3 and Elden Ring, because they're just so good. I don't think there's a single game from 2024 I'll be playing again (outside of continual releases, like I'm a WoW addict, so I'll keep playing War Within)

Probably Dragon's Dogma 2 for me. It would be concord, but I knew it was dogshit the moment I saw it. It was the most obvious bomb ever.

For me, it was Black Ops 6. Enjoyed zombies but within 2 weeks I had enough with the multi-player. Maps are just not fun for me.

No one I know plays it either. Game fell off faster then MW3 for everyone I know.

I’d say Dragon’s Dogma 2 had the biggest gulf between my expectations and reality so that’s what I picked.

Veilguard is a disappointment but for me that was a “I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it’s actually good” kind of thing. I figured it would most likely be a turd. If anything I was pleasantly surprised at how hilariously retarded it turned out.

Star Wars Outlaws, being from Ubisoft I knew it was gonna be shit from the get-go but I still had hopes after the initial reveal trailer. Such a waste of an incredible IP.

I wasn‘t hyped about any game that was released this year, so I can’t say I was disappointed by any strech.

Perhaps the Silent Hill 2 Remake. It was a good game and all but a bit too bloated.

This game took around 7 to 8 years to get made and I felt it was nothing special. I liked the game but to me it's a B Grade. I was fine with the story. But I found the cast bland and for the Social Links, I ended up fast forwarding through them since I found then cookie cutter. Not only that but there was a weird absence of fanservice. Graphically was hit or miss for me, sometimes the game looks great and sometimes it just looked like a high res PS2 game. OST was a disappointment too, but it wasn't bad just not as memorable. Battle System was a lot of fun though. Whenever Persona 6 comes out, I'm taking a wait and see and seeing how that game turns out before I buy it day one.

Hellblade II for me. I should blame myself, probably, because I hoped for something bigger and better and we got a pretty straight forward sequel with even less gameplay. But I blame Microsoft. They unveiled the game together with their new console, making us believe it was something really special.

I have yet to try Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, though. I just bought it for 30$ after big hesitation, but I just wanted a racer. I probably will be disappointed.

Rimworld. Most expensive game I ever pulled the trigger on.
Rimworld got constantly recommended to me, because Factorio and Starbound are one of my favorite games. I also love Terraria, Surviving Mars, Stardew Valley, My Time At Portia, Graveyard Keeper, Banished. But Rimworld disappointed me. On one hand, the gameplay mechanics is quite deeply technical, which I like, on the other, the progression is so, so slow, everyone is on the verge of dying all the time. Which kinda is the purpose I guess, but it makes for quite anxious gameplay seemingly leading nowhere.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Hellblade II.. too much walking and the story wasn't as interesting as the first.

Honestly I have to go with STALKER 2. I was so excited for this game for so many years, and it just ended up being a half baked sequel thats way too bloated and poorly paced. I played for close to 30 hours, very little actual compelling things happened in that time, then I realized I was only half way through and just lost all desire to continue playing.

Biggest disappointment for me would have to be Dragon's Dogma 2. I really enjoyed the game and am positive about it overall but it was less a sequel and more a side-grade of the first game, if that.

Edit: Honorable mention to Playstation for their choices of what games to port to PC this past year. Big yawn...
I don't think DD2s budget was all that big. I think Capcom was just testing the waters for a franchise that somewhat bombed with DD1. We are for sure getting DD3, given the sales of DD2, and I expect Capcom to invest a lot more resources into the IP

I think it was a mistake that they've split the Remake up into 3 parts.

Is Dragon Age and Concord considered a disappointment? I'm actually very happy these woke pieces of shit failed, so IDK how to vote.

How is Concord up so high? Did anyone actually have high expectations for this game (besides Hermen?) Seems like everyone hated it from the moment the first teaser trailer released.

People keep naming concord but to be disappointed in something, you'd have to be looking forward to it in the first place. How many here will readily admit to looking forward to concord? :D

I would consider myself among the few who found the gameplay (excluding character design) to be quite enjoyable. Although I would have still played it to the same extent as Overwatch, I didn’t find it to be particularly bad. In fact, I was completely unaware of its existence until very close to its release.

This shitbird. Barely played any Tekken 8 since this asswipe came out. Just like that, Tekken 8's appeal went down the shitter just like the abysmal Tekken Turd 7.

Good pick i was also very disappointed with it. Loved Suikoden but couldn't get into it after 10 hours or so i dropped it.

A big one was Dragon Age because i really liked the previous games (even inquisition) and played them multiple times. Didn't even try the new one. Saw enough from reviews and videos to turn me off completely. Didn't have much faith anyway in Bioware anymore though so biggest disappointment for me goes to FF7R2.

I think i dropped it about 30 hours in. There was too much shit in the game. I am not a fan of turning everything open world (i think the first game actually benefited with a more linear playstyle). People kept saying that the side quests were good this time but nope sucked as much as before though now there were more of them. Some of the mini games were cool but they were everywhere. Like stop at 3-4 at max.. It had i don't even know how many.

Too bad because i loved the FF7R first game. I was really excited for this but not for me (also fuck Chadley and his ai who wouldn't shut the fuck up for 5 seconds whatever she is called..).
Devs keep on changing more than the gamers themselves. They must be at the same pace to keep the hobby healthy and alive.

Why is dragons dogma 2 there?
It's top3 2024 game.
It's exactly what I expected.
