Ok, first things first:

This isn't a particularly great flick. It has shitty villains, and a mediocre story.

That said? This movie is worth it for Nicolas Cage's loony, insane performance and Idris Elba hamming it the fuck up. That, and the actual Ghost Rider portions are badass as fuck.

I loved Ghost Rider turning any vehicle he touches into a flaming awesome harbinger of doom.

Shit, I want Cage as part of the MCU. Play a new version of the Rider, why not. But he's always consistently watchable.

Tone should be horror movie except we are rooting for the monster/serial killer. Introduce her with Doctor Strange.

That movie is such a bubbling cauldron of wasted potential. It's an exercise in not going far enough and being safe. You got the Crank guys directing. You got Nic Cage being incredibly crazy. You got Idris Elba as a drunk monk.

But none of it comes together. Crappy villain, terrible story, and just an incredibly safe movie. Wish it went R just like Punisher War Zone did and the Crank guys could of went the whole mile with it.

But seriously, the movies have always been bad, but the look of the rider has been pretty damn good.

What I wish they would do is use the Doctor Strange movie to introduce the Midnight Sons and just go from there. Ditch Nic Cage, I never liked him as Johnny Blaze to begin with, bring back Wesley Snipes as Blade (assuming he's still got it), do the Rise of the Midnight Sons, follow it up with the Midnight Massacre storyline and boom, you've got yourself a dark supernatural series of films. If they do well they could spin them off into movies with the specific teams like the Nightstalkers, Darkhold Redeemers and the Spirits of Vengeance. Really, Marvel has a decent roster of horror oriented characters/teams, I wish they'd do more with them, I was always drawn more to those than their regular superheroes.

Had the same experience as you OP. Went into this flick with bottom of the barrel expectations given how panned it was, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Action scenes were cool, the effects weren't bad, and Idris Elba was hilarious. Sure, it's a crap film, but still a lot of fun

Kind of makes me wanna see Spirit of Vengeance now. Isn't it kind of a remake/reboot since they changed certain character or whatever? Or is it a direct sequel?

Also, it wouldn't be too bad if they did a complete reboot to fit Ghost Rider into the MCU. But please, no Nick Cave this time. Choose another, more appropriate actor.
