I'm just going to go ahead and say it. The 'One final thing' moment....

Apple are going to bring back the 3.5mm jack. Tech blogs will love it, herald the "return of Apple."

as much as everyone would like that. I don't see apple walking back that move anytime soon.
mainly because I don't believe it effected their sales at all

I could be wrong, if so please feel free to correct. but as it stands now, I feel as if apple sees this as the "logical" next step. even though they are using only usb type C on their new MacBooks but still using lightning on their phones. if anything, there might be a better chance of seeing USB-C on phones replacing the lightning connector.

Why would they do that? The iPhone 7 sold a fuckton and there's still a six week wait for new AirPod orders from Apple (I should know since I just ordered two pair on Friday).

Does this chart factor into 2 year contract renewals? There is no way those sales are to new iPhone customers. It would be interesting to see how many new owners they added with the 7 compared to the 6.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it's an indication.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were huge hits during the Christmas quarter, Apple said during the earnings call, revealing that it saw record iPhone 7 sales to upgraders but also to Android switchers during the period.

Doubt it. As an iPhone 7 owner I can't say I've ever missed not having a headphone jack. The dongle that comes with it has stayed on my headphones and it's just like having the old jack.

don't think people really care about the headphone jack tbh

A small contingent do, very vocal on GAF and the internet at large, but on the whole people really don't care. Most people just use the earphones that come with the phone, and since the iPhone 7 comes with earphones, problem solved.

It doesn't seem like it's impacted sales of the 7 or will impact sales of the 8 at all

Yeah, I personally never understood the fussl about it. Aside from hardcore audiophiles (these guys probably don't even use their smartphones for music), not sure what the big issue is. Audio barely uses any battery so charging/listening isn't that big of a deal. Hell it even comes with a tiny dongle you stick into any of your 3.5mm accessories. I'm assuming just to have another thing to cry about Apple with.

Yeah it's not coming back.

The decision is probably more - do we include the adapter again?

Hope they can keep dual speakers with this new design. One of the best new 'features' in the 7 and one of the biggest disappointments with the S8.

It's been done to death on here and while the change has had little impact on me (if anything, maybe a positive one cos now I have Bluetooth earphones which in many scenarios are more convenient) the reason for the uproar is because they got rid of it for no good reason. The 7 doesn't have any features that it couldn't otherwise have with the 3.5mm jack included.

Didn't they add the haptic feedback engine in the area where the 3.5mm jack was? Even if they didn't, I'm sure any amount of space they can free up in that small rectangle for more computer parts over a 3.5mm jack is a plus. For me at least.

They already removed it last year with the 7 lol

Generally I like Bluetooth, but my subaru Bluetooth connection is awful so I typically use the aux. Even with the dongle you can't charge at the same time. Guess there are 3rd party options, but it's extra hassle.

Especially when other phones can have all the features + headphone jack, you need to sell me real hard on why I need to pay premium price for a phone with less features :p

Lmao at people now submitting to the 3.5 aux jack-less revolution as I predicted. Like clockwork, sales won't be affected and people will come around. And we'll be in a better place where wireless becomes the standard.

Thank Apple.

I think Apple claimed that it was because of the Taptic Engine?

Not sure if that physically could fit without removing the 3.5mm jack, but might have needed to sacrifice battery size etc. if they moved the TE?

Yeah I totally agree you with that this is the one instance where the 3.5mm jack is golden. Not purely for music but navigation really rips batteries a new one.

I'm guessing (hoping) there are already one dongle solution (without the weird splitting) that can both charge and use the audio.

I for one never really considered the 3.5mm jack a feature, especially when it comes with a solution , when considering my smartphone purchase. And apparently millions others too :x

Christ, the new render is the revenge of the 4. If the screen is the same as the OP that would be obscene.

Still can't believe they've managed to put absolutely everything behind the screen, but if so I'm going to crash the preorder site.

Bigger Taptic Engine, slightly bigger battery. While it's not strictly required for watter resistance it does help

Yep. If this comes close to the iconic look of the iPhone 4/5 in terms of design then I'm happy. To me, that's the last time Apple's phones looked "beautiful"

So is this rumor that it's gonna go back to just one iPhone and not an 8/8+? If they fit a screen the size of the Plus onto a body the size of the regular, that'd be pretty amazing and appease both people who love the smaller phone size, and who love the big display.

Can somebody explain what makes this better looking than the one in the OP? One in the OP looks vastly superior to me.
The stainless steel chassis is the main difference. It feels amazing in the hand and is reminiscent of the iPhone 4. Which in my opinion is the best designed iPhone.

They're both nice, a screen like that with minimal uniform borders would kill it, but I really like the nod to the 4 with the silver edging.

iPhone 8 rumors = iPhone release in 2017 ?

There is no 7s ?

I'm confused

There's both. This is the anniversary one, but it's being positioned as a high-end model rather than the standard one.

I was slagging the other tender off but that looks ok. If that whole black sheet is screen that's pretty damn cool. If it's still bezel wrapped in metal I will probably be put off but I guess we won't know until we know!

The 4 was a beautiful design, it just had like an industrial quality to it which seperated it as a consumer product.

Never been happy with any phone design since, it was like being spoiled.

although the 4, when it came out, was the most amazing phone on the market. looking back I would say it was too small even for its time. but that just maybe the bias talking. I still own the 5S because apple haven't released a phone as amazing looking since.

I used an iPhone 5s the other day.

Unusable.

Can't believe there are people still going with such a slow, small phone.

I have an SE and love the size, but if they could dump the bezel and drop a bigger screen in it, it would really do wonders.

Hopefully it's sexy, my original 6 plus is absolutely destroyed and holding on by a limb. I'm trying to hold out for this.
Mine is slowing to a crawl. It is in perfect condition and the battery is great, but it hangs and freezes constantly now. It's such bullshit.

Look interesting. At the moment I have a 6s plus and moving to the S8 plus. I'll give Android a run this year, and I'll be back for the iPhone 8s.

It's my daily phone since my iPhone 6 just literally died out of nowhere (literally, literally..) and it's still my favorite iPhone. It may be slow and missing features, but it has the most aesthetically pleasing design and it's the only iPhone that can be comfortably used with one hand (and I have larger hands)

its just a phone? i mean regardless of OS, you will mostly be using the same media and social media apps, google maps etc :P

I know. I was joking.
Check the email tag when you quote my original post.

Though I don't use Google Maps anymore. Apple Maps went from absolutely unusable at launch to pretty damn good now (YMMV, as with anything else).
