Rumor - Microsoft declined the Star Wars KOTOR remake deal

This I believe was just a dumb ass move by Microsoft. KOTOR is connected to the original Xbox for various reasons and I don't know why Microsoft would pass on it just because Aspyr is developing it. Maybe if Microsoft were to oversee it like Sony appears to be doing since they're publishing the game, they would have been more inclined to get the game on Xbox day one. Instead, I will be playing it on my PS5 because fuck that, im not waiting.

I'm also skeptical. People act like Fallen Order is mediocre. Just wait until you see this game. Fallen Order is made by one of the best third party teams around, and an ex-God of War director. And it's focused just on action, not RPG stuff or quests.

This is an action remake with also deep RPG elements, quests, tons of rewritten dialogue, and a party. Good luck.

Weird. If the studio is shit then you invest in them to make sure they get all the resources they need to be successful.

I can understand passing on Marvel, but these are the kind of small deals MS shouldve made to fill in the gaps in their first party lineup. They are far cheaper than the billions they spent to get Starfield, and who knows, putting faith in smaller studios like this can pay off in a few years. Bluepoint wasnt always a tech giant. They started off small doing PS3 remasters. You have to develop relationships with these smaller studios.

MS had the right idea with Ninja Theory, Obsidian, and Playground Games. Investing in smaller studios that need first party help to become AAA. It's a shame they ditched that approach and went straight into acquiring publishers.

Completely agree. Absolutely tone-deaf move (though Microsft tends to make them) especially considering how vocal was the Xbox community regarding the game (people have been asking for the remake for years).

I do wonder why Microsoft passes on so many deals and it seems they avoid anything third person related too.

Shows how they don't care about brand identity like Nintendo or Sony anymore.

They can burn money on sinking ships in Bethesda and Activision Blizzard but they can't spend time and money helping a studio remake a game that has a connection to their brand.

They'll probably decline a new Blue Dragon next and use that money to fund Cliffy B and Radical Heights 2.

He leaked the KOTOR remake in February 2021 months before it was announced.

Is that technically a leak or a well educated guess based on the studio's history and current job listings?

If this is true though, MS are looking pretty clueless.

Aspyr has been remaking old Star Wars games for a while. Pair that with the info that they're working on an RPG and it's painfully easy to make this 'leak'. Don't be so trusting

Aspyr's history is nothing but making ports of middling games. Not sure what in their recent history or track record makes anyone think they're the right fit to remake a beloved classic.
As I said, they hired senior devs (including many OG guys from Bioware) who have decades of experiencing making AAA RPGs. When they were a porting studio, they had people who could port games. Now that they are remaking a AAA RPG, they have hired the right people for that.

Just like Playground has been hiring people who knows how to make narrative-driven RPGs. Do you think because of Playground's history, they cannot make or aren't a right fit for rebooting Fable?

Considering the studio making it, won't be surprised if they were skeptical.
you right
This topic, without any substantial confirmation, will be 11 pages minimum. Count on it. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

if you keep at this rate, its possible.

He said he was in communication with people behind the scenes, including Jason Schreier.

The initial rumor a while ago was BioWare was remaking KOTOR. He found that was cancelled.

He found that Aspyr started hiring BioWare people (both have offices in Austin, Texas.) And so on.

Do people really think a random YouTuber would know this?

No way MS of today would have passed on this, not when they've been increasing the scope of their publishing deals.

Barely credible clickbait gets elevated here as fact now.

It's a timed exclusive isn't it?

I know it's easy for me to say and given the association and love it has with Xbox fans, if I had been a decision maker I would of pushed for this way earlier and set it up with the plan to launch with or around the first year of Series X/S so it wasn't over reliant on one title for the first 12 months.

Oh boy.

And I think I still have my KOTOR orig Xbox disc.
Pretty sure this disc still works on the XSX. MS has fantastic backward compatability. Unless the remake has a substantial upgrade I am not seeing this being a huge deal. We did know at one point in time Sam Maggs was working on the project so the jury is out on if this will be superior to the original.

Timed exclusive so waste of money for the console with the smaller user base. Rather see Microsoft spend money on its studios or funding full exclusives. Timed exclusives are shit and waste of money.

Don't try and sow concern while hocking your favorite brand over a third party title. She was dumped early on.

What they do have however, are original developers that worked on the OG.

And the PC version is far superior due to the extra gameplay modes/settings, etc..
