Rumor - Microsoft declined the Star Wars KOTOR remake deal

Add this to turning down Sega.

MS is always fucking stupid, when it comes to gaming.

Good thing Phil is with them, or else, these dumbases would have turned off xbox.
Then again, this is with Phil in charge.

At this point, the entire company is infected with idiocracy.

Shit man I'm just responding to Topher asking me the difference in quality output.

:lollipop_sad_relieved:
I think gaming journalists tastes differ on certain classics. Considering those Aspyr ports play the exact same as they did when they first came out, those very reviews even say that. Odd, really.

Isn't she off the project now?
Has been for some time, she was there very briefly.

Reminds me of when VRR was a game changer lol
Now, it's barely spoken about. The next acronym will pop up soon, however.

We won't know if they did something stupid or dodged a bullet until the game comes out.

The game is no longer canon so it doesn't make any sense storywise anymore anyway. To canonize it, it will take a ton of work and Disney oversight, a fucking nightmare in other words.

No way to know for sure if the rumor is true, but I would have expected MS to get first crack just because the OG was an OG Xbox exclusive (and one of the best games of the generation hands down).

I can also understand why MS would pass on it from their business standpoint, regardless of any real or fake concern over the developer. Walking this through, we are talking about the Star Wars IP, and the chances are very high that the cost to get exclusivity for Star Wars IP is much higher than some all new 3rd party IP. And we also know that MS is completely invested in GP. So it seems safe to assume that any big exclusivity deal that MS pays for will need to be on GP day 1, or else they will have to deal with some serious backlash from those expecting all MS exclusives to be released day 1 on GP. If those assumptions hold true, which seem entirely reasonable, that would logically mean the cost for MS to make this exclusive would be significantly higher than the cost for Sony who is content to simply offer the game for sale. MS would need to push a lot of new subs to make it worth paying for exclusivity without taking a bath on it, so I'm not surprised they would have passed in the least having thought about it.

And if it were, some of those first page comments would be a 180. In fact, this would be considered ... a MEGATON.

Riky is suspiciously absent these past few days…

It makes little sense regardless why they would not be interested. Their a 2 trillion dollar company?

It shows incompetence in not realizing what something like that would do for Xbox let alone game pass.

I never thought about them passing on so many third person games. They definitely lean towards first person over third person by far. Also, they don't see to go after the single player games. The only major one that I know of is Plague Tale Requiem which is multi-plat but day one Game Pass. Other than that, it's all this other shit.
The do go after the single player games if they are the first person though :messenger_tears_of_joy: Stalker, Atomic Heart for example. Or CP2077.

I wonder if Plague Tale is due to close relationship with Asobo rather than Microsoft pursuing it separately. Because if we look at the games - all the third person single player games are moneyhatted by Sony (or EGS sometimes). I cannot even find exceptions there. If the game looks big and third person - 90% chance that Sony has a marketing for that.

In general it seems like Microsoft does not do a lot of marketing deals. If they can't or don't want to (probably due to Game Pass), then they should buy and buy publishers until they hit the regulator wall.

It shows incompetence in not realizing what something like that would do for Xbox let alone game pass.
Microsoft can be very tone deaf regarding their core community chasing the mass market who is happy to play Switch anyway

You're hoping it's trash, aren't you? Unfortunately for you, it's more likely than not that the game will be good.
No, sorry but I don't fit into your fanboy narrative. I hate all kinds of shit on all sides. I don't care if this is good or not, but if it is I will play it.
Doesn't mean that everything that Microsoft rejected ended up being trash. Give the devs a chance first.
Just have a bad feeling about it. If its good I'll play it.

I don't blame Microsoft for passing on a lot of 3rd party exclusives deals in recent years. In the span of 36 months they've expanded their first-party studios from about five or six to now closing in on nearly two dozen (not counting the Activision studios). Microsoft has enough first party talent to manage already without having to worry about micro-managing outside devs with their money.

I heard (don't ask me for my source because it is secret), that Microsoft also passed up on making a vaccine for Cancer/Aids/Covid and Monkey pox.. fucking Microsoft.

Why is everyone approaching Microsoft nowadays? Are they thinking that they are going to bankroll everything?

There's tone deaf and then there's incompetence. How the fuck do you not have deals in place for 2022 after such a good year in 2021? How do you base your entire 2022 slate on 2 games?

They are fucking clueless, and I can tell you gamepass will take a huge hit this year. ANd whats even worse is if the rumors are true on starfield.

God of war is this year, and i've heard Forspoken may get pushed to have FF16 release this year as well since that game is literally complete.

2022 Is not going to be a good look for Microsoft is June showcase isn't the second coming. 2023 is going to start with bangers from Sony again.

Time is not on their side.

Pretty sure this disc still works on the XSX. MS has fantastic backward compatability. Unless the remake has a substantial upgrade I am not seeing this being a huge deal. We did know at one point in time Sam Maggs was working on the project so the jury is out on if this will be superior to the original.
Why wouldn't it be a substantial upgrade, it's a remake not a remaster

And Sony might have some guys from Visual Arts helping/overseeing it

OMG! I didn't know about that 😳 So many bad decisions but somehow Xbox fans always blame Sony 🥴

If true this is disappointing. I have never played KOTOR and would have probably bought this day one. How long is the exclusivity period on this?

Well, sometimes I do feel like they don't have the contingency plans. I mean just look at the whole autumn lineup for Sony - either exclusives or marketing deals. If anything delayed - they will still have something that would feel exclusive one way or another

I disagree there. The main problem is that there is a shortage of consoles and Microsoft expanding into PC, consoles and cloud they will gain the market share without even games. Game Pass growth might take a hit, but I don't think it will be that big. So even if Sony has exclusives, what is the point if they don't have the consoles to sell? Xbox being sold even without games basically lol

My love of the OG makes me want to agree they dropped the ball here. But I can't get there unless we know what the cost would have been to make it exclusive on GP and confirm that it would have been a good business decision for them. Even MS has to pick and choose its spots at some point, and I bet they just couldn't justify what the cost would be to not actually sell this game when the opportunity arose. It's Star Wars after all.

I see people trying to downplay this one already. " It's going to suck anyway" "I never liked it!"
That's literally what I said when it was announced on PS5. I said literally the exact same thing I'm saying in this thread.

So many of you guys are so pro Sony that it makes it impossible to even speak about anything.

Not sure what you mean, but all signs are pointing to a quick port. If they add content, improve the boring combat, and make a technically competent game, I will be pleasantly surprised.

It's supposed to be a remake if I'm not wrong. Didn't hear anything about it being a remaster. As for what I mean peoples feelings in many cases clouds their judgement on things. I'm just saying don't let your feelings do that to you. Just because Microsoft rejected this doesn't mean it's going to be bad.

who do you think you're fooling exactly?
I encourage you to pull your head out of your ass. If you want receipts, you have 8 years of my post history. I have probably been more critical of Xbox over the years than anyone else. It's true that I have been more critical of PlayStation lately, but that is genuine belief. They simply appeal less to me more and more with the direction they are going. Having an opinion that doesn't match your religious devotion, does not make me a fanboy. Rather it makes you one for your stupid takes.

My whole point is MS is way richer than Sony in every way. Something like that is what Microsoft needs. I'm guessing the 70 Billion deal for ACT/B has the company doing smaller deals as of late. Since negotiations started 2021. But it's this countless ball dropping with them unwilling to spend cash like they did for RDR2 DMC5. They spent a bunch for MLB the show. Starwars is huge, even if its 6 months on gamepass. After the game came out would be huge.

There's no way you could spin this in my eyes. They continuously have dropped the ball with Internal Studio management, yearly slate curation, and now meaningful deals that would have created huge buzz but large growth for gamepass.

Sorry, there is no excuse from a trillion dollar company let alone one who is fine spending 70 Billion for candy crush and call of duty.
