Rumor - Microsoft declined the Star Wars KOTOR remake deal

There's always a risk handing off a beloved IP to a completely untested studio, this one turned out to be a real risk.

I don't think the poster meant people genuinely looking forward to the game.

Just a quick look at the first two pages will show you a lot of posters weren't posting in that context, there was a lot of chest thumping and "lol ms fucked up" chatter.

Yeah, I guess. Hard to sort the mean-hearted folks from those just joking I guess.

Its just for fun dude. Why did people shit on MS for not buying exclusivity? People were trashing them in this thread for having the audacity to not bankroll the game. I say just lighten up. People are not making fun of people who were just merely hopeful

Fair enough. I definitely think MS should have take this game, but I'm not going to trash them for not.

And MS has a lot to prove. Everyone would have acted like it was their fault and all management should be fired immediately at MS.
Yep would been why was booty and phil not there every day to quality control the game and approve assets, story boards, pull obsidian entertainment off avowed to save the project ect.

I do not believe it was a dumb ass move by Microsoft.
If what Jason is saying is true, yeah. Of course, if im Sony, I give Embracer a call tomorrow and say, we're taking this shit in house and giving it to Bluepoint which at that point, my original opinion would most likely be correct. Teehee.

That's fine. But why jeer at those who were hopeful?
I don't think it's about people that were hopeful but the people that were saying MS dropped a ball here and that PlayStation was getting a game that was on Xbox and not PlayStation before.

Maybe MS didn't exactly pass on this one, but allowed someone to pickup a grenade with no pin in it. It does happen, in big business.

Well look at what we have here.
With your posting habits, surely!
What they do have however, are original developers that worked on the OG.
Big loss. What exactly is Starfield btw?
As of right now? A coffee table chat with developers fellating one another.
And if it were, some of those first page comments would be a 180. In fact, this would be considered ... a MEGATON.

It's a remake, not a remaster. They even hired a lot of veterans who worked on the original, as well as other modern RPGs, etc..
After sperging for 8 pages, calling about everyone for "trying to damage control Microsoft", look at you playing saint in another thread.
My first post in the thread is apt for all facets of the discussion, really. ;)
Only on NeoGAF can a third party game be used as motivation and fuel with how one constructs their posts in the great console war.

When the OG fuck up is Disney, and always has been Disney.
Even if I dump all your "its ironic" gif it won't match up with the backpedaling of the last line. You were so much into the "its Microsoft's fault", now suddenly its a third party game that just randomly happened to be console exclusive.

DeepEnigma always larps as a "both console war sides are stupid, I'm totally above it" guy, but he is indeed a full blown blue snake :messenger_beaming: Just drop the pretense, bro.

I still think you're based because of your political views.

This game would just "deserve" a good remaster, as a remake will almost always change things into the wrong direction (the Demon Souls remake was an exception here, as the base game was not really touched, they remade the game 1:1 with new technologies).
I guess now it becomes clear why MS didn't want to support that studio. They must present their project and it seems that something was just missing/fishy if they now fired 2 persons responsible for that project. Also if the project is on hold, it seems that they really don't know where to go with that project. Normally the development should just proceed if the money is incoming. A project only goes on hold if that money is no longer coming in e.g. if the project doesn't life up to the expectations (e.g. from Sony at this point).

Btw, why not just make a Kotor 3? Kotor is based in the Star Wars universe where they can make almost anything while still being Star Wars.

Take Bluepoint off what they are working on to make a KOTOR remake as in proper remake from scratch game?

Itll be a launch title for the PS6 if they start now and split their work load between the two titles.

Are people really happy that this game is pretty much dead?

It is like some weird victory lap for Microsoft.

MS to Aspyr when Sony opened the checkbook for this

Cuz Microsoft's history isn't full of failed projects? You never can tell about these things anymore. Platinum Games probably seemed like a slam dunk and yet Scalebound's remains tell us otherwise. But yeah, I guess MS made the right call on this and some, including myself, were wrong.

Yep it would be Scalebound all over again.
Speaking of scalebound... why is there not the same energy with this. It's the same situation except the plug was pulled earlier. It sounds like Microsoft at least gave platinum a chance to salvage the game.

"I'd love to seem them make their own original game"

This is a cautionary tale of why you don't just hand over massive projects like this to a studio who's known for porting. I could praise Sony for taking a chance or I could criticize them for an uncharacteristically trusting a studio that has never taken on a project of this magnitude.

Half of these posts are just looking back in 20/20 hindsight lol. None of them knew the game's development would end so poorly.

The issue wasn't about that initially, though, it was about the fact that the KOTOR Remake (the OG being an Xbox exclusive) became a PS5 Exclusive, rather than being multi-platform.

Maybe Sony works out a deal to develop the game in-house now? Who knows.

The game's been delayed and probably swapping hands. Not cancelled.
Has a game ever actually relreased AFTER it was 'delayed indefinitely'?. I dont mean that sarcastically but i was thinking about this earlier and i couldnt think of a single game. Indefinately usually is double speak for cancelled.

Sony certainly didn't pay for it to get cancelled. We will just have to wait and see what happens. It would be cool if Sony was in charge of the development though. They could definitely find some competent people to work on the game.

That's just Jason's wording. The devs are getting sacked from the project so you obviously can't put a new timeframe on it yet

Duke Nukem Forever ? (actually, not sure if it was ever classified as an indefinitely delay, but ya know ...)
