There's a significant difference between upscaling, which is what the ps3 does, and rendering at 1080p, which is what Dolphin does.

Upscaling is stretching out a smaller image to a bigger size, using filters to smooth it out, whereas the Dolphin emulator renders games in NATIVE HD, just like a PC game would.

Well, in the case of Aliens: Colonial Marines, the game is completely HUD-less on all platforms aside from the motion tracker, which is brought up only temporarily when pressing a button; however, with the Wii U version, Gearbox could make the Wii U controller the motion tracker instead.

It can, but the internal resolution of the games is still 480p/i. The PS3 just applies filters and interpolation to make things look a little nicer, and they can even look worse for some games. The only way to get GC/PS2 games to actually render at a higher resolution is PCSX2 or Dolphin.

Also incorrect, the Wacom line (gold standard for "professional applications" – I'm a big fan myself) uses EMR to measure pressure sensitivity. no one uses resistive touch anymore except Nintendo and microwave manufacturers. Oh actually my printer has a similar touchscreen, so those too.

That type of upscaling is something Nintendo hypothetically could implement without sacrificing compatibility, and I wouldn't rule it out at this point. We just know for sure that the WiiU won't render Wii games above 480p, and the PS3 doesn't either.

Did I say otherwise? No. I said that the screen isnt as impressive as other devices released in the last couple of years. And software is able to progress and improve thanks to hardware limits being pushed. They go hand in hand.

Backwards compatibility is iffy to begin with, and I can imagine Nintendo would prefer to ensure stability across all times before trying to render software beyond what they were programmed for. It would be nice, but I don't see it happening, not unless Nintendo specifically re-releases "HD Collections" of their games.

Upscaling though is done naturally by every display. Plug a Wii into a 1080p LCD and it will still upscale the image to fit the screen. Upscaling doesn't increase the IQ though.

I think that Wii U has the greatest benefit of having a good screen, since all the graphics processing is done in the console and thus has less of a constraint in being able to output high poly models and quality textures.

the low PPI of the iPad 1 and 2 was never good or something, so it doesn't help to use the iPad as argument.

I want to pay for a console that will still be competitive to its competitors in 4-5 years. I cant imagine this screen when looking at what competiting screens will display in that time frame. I mean damn, the Vita still burns my eyes.
