This is the best thing to happen to Xbox gamers in years because games don't sale much on Xbox so eventually the studios was going to put less & less into making games for Xbox but now they can put the effort into big Xbox games because they know they can make the money back from the added sales on PlayStation.
What Xbox gamers?
What would even be the reason to have a Xbox if Microsoft’s biggest titles would come to Playstation day 1? Stick placement on the controller? Lol
Everybody would jump ship. PS or PC.
And then Gamepass would close too because it’ll never come to Playstation and it won’t survive on just PC. The core fanbase are on Xbox, that’s the entry point. Kill Xbox, kill Gamepass.
So nah, let’s be honest here, this is a terrible strategy. And I would say that the first 4 titles that was already released on PS5 was the worst thing that could happen to Xbox. Even as late releases they instantly pop the exclusivity bubble and people start expecting everything to come and start moving away.
PS to PC ports is a similarly destructive strategy but there is still the cost barrier there at least. No matter what DF tries to say there is no $399 PC running PS games as well as PS5 Digital, so even with day 1 Steam releases it wouldn’t completely kill the PS platform.
But with Xbox to PS there is no barrier. Like at all. PS5 Digital is literally cheaper than Xbox Series X and will run everything as good, or better, and there is the Pro path if you want an upgrade, haptic will be better on PS as well.
And I don’t think they’ll do well as a publisher. When there is no first party or Gamepass hype they need to compete only on quality. And are Microsoft’s games good enough for that? Hmmm idk, maybe some, but not enough to keep 20-whatever studios open. Studios would close left and right.
I just wonder who’s to blame for these strategies. Is this new Xbox president Sarah Bond’s doing? It all started shortly after her promotion. Or is she just the fabricated fallguy here? put forward to take the blame when the platform dies while Phil Spencer is quietly pulling the strings from above?
