Rupert Murdoch: Fox Not Biased for Bush
10.26.2004, 04:10 AM
Rupert Murdoch insisted Tuesday that his Fox News Channel was not biased in favor of U.S. President George W. Bush and that News Corp., his global media empire, was a fair and balanced company.
Speaking at the company's annual general meeting in the southern Australian city of Adelaide, Murdoch said Fox News' reporting was more balanced than other U.S. networks.
"It's full of Democrats and Republicans, the others only have Democrats. We don't take any position at all," Murdoch said in response to a question about Fox's impartiality. "We're not in the least bit biased, we're a fair and balanced company."
But Murdoch said News Corp. newspapers would continue to support Bush's foreign policy.
"With our newspapers, we have indeed supported Bush's foreign policy and we remain that way," Murdoch said.
Murdoch would only speculate about the impact on the economy should Sen. John Kerry, the Democrat candidate, win the election on Nov. 2.
"I have no idea. He says he has plans but he won't tell us what they are," Murdoch said.
He said financial markets would probably respond more favorably if Bush wins the presidency.
"I think you'll get a lift to the market and you'll get continuation of his tax reduction program which will help, and interest rates will stay low, probably," Murdoch said.
