oddly enough you just reminded me of a short video that was shown right at the beginning of the war (you know when we still thought Ukraine was gonna get stomped on). There was this Ukranian woman and she went up to a Russian soldier and pleaded with him to put sunflower seeds in his pocket so that when he dies at least his body will be of some use :-

I remember thinking that this woman was so brave against the futility of standing up to the "Russian Bear". But wow what a crazy year it has been, we have gone from Ukraine being conquered within 3 days to Russia and Putin are starting to shit bricks about losing Crimea.

well, I don't think most people expected Putin to just be a conman

Some straight up sad shit.

And we get reminded why we should be grateful that's the case

I hate to be that guy, but this is a bit much. The inspiration for Imperial Stormtroopers was literally Nazi Stormtroopers so for Germany to cosplay them at a real military inauguration as a "joke" comes off as tone-deaf.
It is just a joke. I hope no one from Polish government media are going to see what you wrote here or they will claim for next two weeks that germany are becoming nazi again.

“Our president has lost touch with the world,” he said. “He has been living in an information cocoon for the past couple of years, spending most of his time in his residences, which the media very fittingly call bunkers. He is pathologically afraid for his life. He surrounds himself with an impenetrable barrier of quarantines and an information vacuum. He only values his own life and the lives of his family and friends.”

Karakulov described a virtual state within a state that includes firefighters, food testers and other engineers who travel with Putin on his trips abroad, providing a rare first-hand insight into the levels of paranoia and sheltered lifestyle of the Russian president. “They call him the Boss, worship him in every way and only ever talk of him in those terms,” he said.

He really has seemed a lot less informed and attentive over the years. I can recall interviews from years ago where he seems intelligent, level headed and well informed on topics, even when he was lying through his teeth.

Now it’s just mindless blustering rhetoric, and he seems to have no clue or ability to grasp what the hell his army is doing, and according to the recent accounts doesn’t even use the internet so has to rely on reports from the from the commanders themselves that have no clue what the hell is going on.

Only on certain matters did he seem rational.
He has been spouting that Ukraine is not a real country for decades.
And the one of the first things he did when entering office was to invade Chechnya, a second time. And then Georgia.
He has always had that spark of Hitler, but he just didn't have the power to do it.

Oh I know he’s always been a narcissistic sociopath, it’s just compared to before he seems just seems to have lost it mentally.

He should know information warfare is part of modern warfare and he is an former intelligence officer…that (according to reports) now won’t go on the internet because of ‘paranoia’.

You don't have to read my post to know that stormtroopers came from Nazis. It doesn't make sense as a "joke" for a military inauguration ceremony. "Hey, you know those bad guys in Star Wars of the same name that fulfilled the same function as Nazi stormtroopers? Let's dress up as them during a public military PR event!"

I don't think there was any bad intent, just a baffling lack of self-awareness.

Well, no. Sturmtruppen is a kind of late WW1 infantry, armed with an MP 18. What's "nazi" about it?

if a tank is sitting outside for a decade like the t80u's.... then how can it even work? Everything is rusted and jammed

Ideally they would put a canvas on top. And do preventative maintenance.
But this is Russia, the 2nd best army in the world. So instead, they leave it all to rust, steal the copper wiring and everything that isn't bolted in.

He can say whatever he wants, show me any history paper/book/article saying that this form of unit from World War I (in use 1917-1918) is nazi.
It's not exclusively a WW1 name.

"
On 4th November 1921 the Nazi party held a large meeting. Large numbers of demonstrators against Hitler and the Nazi Party were prevented from disrupting the meeting by the Turn-und Sportabteilung. Following this event they became known as Sturm Abteilung (Stormtroopers) abbreviated to SA.

Hitler’s Stormtroopers wore a uniform of khaki brown shirts with swastika armband on left arm, khaki brown trousers with, brown belt, brown combat boots and khaki brown peaked cap with red trim. They were often called by the nickname Brownshirts because of the brown shirts they wore.

Nobody's claiming that they are. Blacktron's point is that George Lucas took direct inspiration from the stormtroopers and nazi uniforms of WW2 for the Empire in Star Wars. They were called stormtroopers in WW2. The fact there may have been stormtroopers also in WW1 is immaterial.

Lol, never try and be a smart arse about history in a forum that inevitably has some history nerds on it.

'Stormtroopers' was a terminology absolutely used by the Nazis for the 'brownshirts' or SA and they were nasty thugs.

And the Imperial style, especially the uniforms absolutely was influenced by Nazi Germany. The black and dark colours, and some of the insignia are from the SS, not the SA (whom the SS took down in The Night of the Long Knives)

But the whole paramilitary thing in Nazi Germany often gets conflated and mixed up what with the uniforms looking somewhat similar and terms like 'Blitzkrieg' sounding connected to 'stormtroopers', even though the German forces involved there weren't called that.

Anyway. Today's modern Russian 'Nazis' are getting their arses kicked and it's wonderful.

It is. If any went to the D.A.P and after that, the N.S.D.A.P, long after 11 November of 1918, they were no longer soldiers, but political rebels. True, some ideas went to the SA, but nor the Reichswehr or Wehrmacht had any use for those units or they tactics.

Mostly nazi uniforms of WW2 were made for the Allgemeine-SS, Einsatzgruppen and Totenkopfverbände. Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht uniforms were made with Italians patterns in mind, with only the helmet being german. I don't know any unit of WW2 with "stormtroopers". You probably mean late war "volksgrenadiers". But each to his own, I guess.

I'm not trying nothing. The SA was a mix of brutes, freikorps and that's it. Does that mean that every unit from WW1 just went to they ranks? No. Also, Blitzkrieg is an incorrect term, the correct word is Bewegungskrieg, that means "war of movement".

Stop spamming this thread with that nonsense out of topic discussion.

Ukrainian government just announced a competition to land a drone on the red square on may 9 (that’s Russia’s victory day when they have the big military parade).

If by 'land' they mean 'attack' I'm all for it. Might sharpen a few minds if a load of that military equipment got blown up right in front of the poison midget and his 'adoring' followers.

I really don't know what to think of those leaked documents. Im starting to wonder if they might be part of some big psy ops campaign. Apparently Ukraine just said they're 'altering' their military plans because of them, so my big question now is how exactly thats going to affect the counteroffensive thats coming up. Are they going to delay it? Is it still going to happen but maybe in a different section of the frontline? If so, how will they prepare logistics and move equipment in time? The closer we get to this offensive the more questions I have. But I can only assume the Russians are scratching their heads as well, so maybe that's just all part of Ukraine's plan.

We won't know for a long time or ever. What can be drawn from these leaks is that US intelligence has so penetrated Russia that Putin is unable to flop on the toilet without the CIA's knowledge.

In the Russian government, in the military there may now be an accusation of everyone at once and a search for spies underway. And the situation there is tragically tense anyway.

So it may be that since all of Russia is already on fire anyway, why not add petrol? - The CIA has thought.

The leaks are very smart , it’s to confuse Russia 🤣 they will be obliterated. Internet is also a weapon .. in times of war .. don’t believe everything 😆

I think it's meant to be purely propagandistic/trolling as the drones have to be painted with the colors of ukraine, etc.

I think a star war's storm trooper's head is based on a firs world war metal helmet and a gas mask

the German storm troopers were used in the ww2 in limited capacity after the night of the long knifes, but they were more in a role of specialists rather than assault troops

So you're being a pedant about a term I even put in quotation marks for you. You might well have studied it (as have I), but that doesn't mean you know how to communicate what you know.

And this is about how it's all perceived in popular culture, not historical fact. Pop culture is what inspired Lucas, and that had stormtroopers in suave Hugo Boss black uniforms.

I'll stop encouraging this derail now and try and get back on topic. Has there been much news? It's been rather quiet.

Legit to confuse.. yes.. this is war! Who controls the information space .. can win. I would take this all with a grain of salt .

I can't speak for the others but the 4th one is NOT accurate. It was modified from the original version by Russians to show higher Ukranian losses compared to their own losses. You should delete that one or replace it with the original version.

I don't think it is psyops as that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I also don't think the information is that damaging (aside from the fact that someone is leaking stuff).
The info in there seems like stuff Russia probably would've already known from their own intelligence/assessments, and as far as I am aware, none of the leaked documents actually contain any battle plans like when or where Ukraine would launch an offensive.

That's a standard procedure... leak true documents but modified in one or two key areas and hope the fact everything else is legit will help sell the lie.
