Its pacing is screwed up, its love story as superficial as it can be, the story is definitely not original, most the characters are shallow with almost zero personality even the basic ones etc. The only "character" in the movie that actually has a character is the planet. Like Branduil said it's a well directed movie with a bad script.


I feel like an asshole saying this but hey, this isn't the first time I'm being one and won't be the last so: It's the perfect movie for stupid people. Superficial, extremely simple and full of gimmicks.

Breaks new ground in proving that special effects, borrowed plots, poor acting, and cringe worthy dialogue apparently make a movie for most people. Avatar honestly felt like a gimmick film based on a videogame from another alternate dimension. It did well because of the gimmick alone. The movie was serviciable, it wasnt bad, but I can't see myself buying the dvd, or even sitting down to watch it again.

It was an excellent marketing job, and cashed on the fact that it was an unique experience that cant be reproduced at home.. and the christmas release date was a wise choice.
