Sacha Baron Cohen dropped from Oscars for fear of angering James Cameron.

Great idea to cut the skit, since the basic premise already sounds unfunny on paper, but adding Stiller to the mix makes it even worst.

And yeah, Cameron can be a moody bitch sometimes, but he has to have a sense of humor, heck he made True Lies, so no blame falls on him.

Not calling Cameron a smarmy scumfuck in response to a thread about a shitty sounding skit he has nothing to do with is "being on Cameron's jockstrap"?

and like you said, especially when he has had no involvement in the matter anyways.

Interesting, I never took Cameron as one to not have a sense of humor. I mean considering he was on Entourage for a while making "Aquaman".

I wonder if this has more to do with the skit being shitty and Cohen not wanting to do it more than anything else.

What's with people in this thread claiming Cameron can't poke fun at himself? Did you not see the awesome SNL skit where he pretty much made fun of every film he's ever made?

Also, people calling Cameron a douche over this particular article. Did you even read the article? He had nothing to do with it being pulled. If anything, the skit sounds like amateur hour. Cameron probably doesn't know that this ordeal has taken place.

Avatar wasn't a cool movie. I don't hate James Cameron but I do think Avatar is his worst film yet. A solid 60/100 at best. It was good but not very good compared to his previous action masterpieces.

Because he made an average movie the stupid masses went apeshit about. Some people tend to dislike the overrated.

Cameron was a douche far before Avatar was filmed.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that. There is something you like that is very popular, but someone out there thinks is overrated and will accuse you of being a mindless sheep for liking it.

lol @stupid masses.

So bitter. Its almost sad. You'd think Cameron skullfucked some of these people in their sleep and proceeded to shit in their breakfast.

Anyone that knows anything about Cameron knows that it's certainly within the realm of possibility for him to be involved somehow. I mean, if a director responsible for two billion + dollar movies says drop the "skit," it's gonna get dropped. Not saying that he did, but I'd be surprised if he didn't.

In general the concept of not letting someone present for fear of offending Cameron sounds wrong to me...

...

But that skit sounds fucking retarded. (satire)

No, the movie is actually very average. Its pacing is screwed up, its love story as superficial as it can be, the story is definitely not original, most the characters are shallow with almost zero personality even the basic ones etc. The only "character" in the movie that actually has a character is the planet. Like Branduil said it's a well directed movie with a bad script.

I feel like an asshole saying this but hey, this isn't the first time I'm being one and won't be the last so: It's the perfect movie for stupid people. Superficial, extremely simple and full of gimmicks.

Yo, man, I went to see Avatar today for the fourth time and had a great time. It's really groundbreaking. Just thought I'd let you know.

Breaks new ground in proving that special effects, borrowed plots, poor acting, and cringe worthy dialogue apparently make a movie for most people. Avatar is the greatest movie ever and it's in 3D wooooohaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I don't even know why other directors try anymore. They should just do the same as cameron and swim in moneys.

That kind of explains the feeling I get watching his movies. You said it better than I could have.

avatar was brainless, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. he must have done something right. if people in here are claiming that all you need is crazy sfx to keep people going back to a movie, they're wrong.

i think your post and others call for that 'mindless sheep' cartoon of the people on the train.

Avatar honestly felt like a gimmick film based on a videogame from another alternate dimension. It did well because of the gimmick alone. The movie was serviciable, it wasnt bad, but I can't see myself buying the dvd, or even sitting down to watch it again.

It was an excellent marketing job, and cashed on the fact that it was an unique experience that cant be reproduced at home.. and the christmas release date was a wise choice.

That's completely wrong. Do all "average" movies make 2.5 billion dollars worldwide? Don't think so.

There's an universal appeal in Avatar that you fail to see. All you said about it proves my point.

Trying to understand why it's popular is hard, calling people stupid is easy, so I can see where you're coming from. 90% of all complaints about Avatar stem from a simple, shallow and rushed analysis of it, arguably more than the critics claim the movie itself to be.

I've said it before, I'm not some stupid elitist prick that shits on movies that are an easy target, I shit on movies that aren't self-aware of what they are. For example I'll defend Crank to death because it's a great movie that knows what it is: A mindless action flick.

On the other hand we have Avatar, a 2 hours and 40 minutes movie that tries and fails on everything but directing. Cameron being a dick with zero self-awareness thought he was creating art or something so he focused too much on badly written shallow characters, dialogue that is as predictable as it can be, a love interest that is extremely superficial and a story that is a complete knock off.

Of course not every average movie makes 2.5 billion. Then again Titanic did pretty damn well. How much did that make? Leo was so dreamy mmmmmm!

There's an universal appeal in Avatar that you fail to see. All you said about it proves my point.

What is this universal appeal? Please explain this... Besides the fact that it is pretty, has the 3D gimmick, and a been done 50 million times before sappy ass love story people can't get enough of?

Yeah, it's really fucking hard trying to figure out why everyone loves this movie so much. I almost feel like taking the easy route and just calling everyone stupid.'

p.s. I'm sick of family and friends calling me up to see this shit pile again because they constantly hear how ground breaking and amazing Avatar is on television and from friends.

p.s.s. I like your "simple, shallow and rushed analysis" of Avatar. Your "everyone loves it so you're wrong" shtick doesn't work. If you're going to argue back your shit up with something besides blanket statements.

clearly not, as he's made a fuckton of cash :lol

it has its faults and some cringey scenes, but all i went in expecting was a family-oriented (it was PG, after all) action/adventure flick on a huge scale and that's exactly what i got. it was an escape, and a damn good one at that.

i fucking LOVE seeing people get so angry about this film's success. i can't figure out if they're angry at james cameron or at the people who go to see the 'done 50 million times before' love story that they can't get enough of..

How did I contradict myself?

I want to understand this universal appeal. Explain it to me because I don't get it. If it is just the pretty visuals, 3d, and sappy love story... I guess I answered myself and people, including my friends and family, really are just stupid. Or is it something more I'm missing? I want to know! What makes this movie so omg fucking amazing!? I've already explained why I dislike it. But the only answer I get is that Avatar has made billions and everyone loves it, so I must be wrong.

He famously got visibly upset by Billy Crystal making fun of Titanics budget. Linda who was his wife at the time had to calm him down on camera.

Fuck this noise, Avatar was a fun, great looking movie. I love how everyone is also a professional scriptwriter here too. Seriously, unless you can write me a better one your opinion is literally balls to me. Besides we should be getting back to the real issue here; Bruno being fucking shit and this skit sounding like it was written by 12 year olds on a sugar high.

This seems like cowardice on the producer's part and not motivated by any real understanding of what would be offensive to Cameron.

I'm not angry at the films success, I don't give a fuck since I've seen worse (Emmerich comes to mind) I'm angry at the univarsal praise. Watching everyone salivating over this movie as if it was something better than a good looking action flick that failed at everything else reminds me what I'm surrounded with and that always makes me a little bitter.

Because the masses, AROUND THE WORLD, don't agree with you.

The masses, AROUND THE WORLD, loved AHBUHDAR to the tune of 2.5 Billion dollars.

And if you don't see what you're "missing" by now, sorry pal, I can't help you.

Does that answer work for you?

But don't worry, since 3D ticket sales made all the money for AHBUHDAR, it'll be no time at all before any ole movie comes along and topples it's records.

Another laaaaaaaaame argument. So really, if I can't write or direct a better movie I can't critique Avatar? I guess that makes anything you have to say about the movie pointless also. If you can't make a movie as good as Avatar you have no clue what you're talking about! Shit, I'm not a platinum musician either, so I better stay away from music threads. Oh, and fuck..
