Ok, there seems to be a Wii version, one argument down, quite some more to go.

Even then it could be an investors scam.

1) Make a lot of fuss, get publications on major sites
2) Go to investors, get funds, license an engine, write out your paychecks every month
3) ?
4) Profit.

Phantom?

I still think anyone could safely take a ban bet that real footage would never come out.

No but really, they showcased working units. They had people working on games for it, just because a product never see the day of release. Do you really think the people who invested never saw anything at all? They just saw people sitting in an office throwing paperballs between each other?

Because that was what you claimed, that the people who invested never saw the phantom. They even had that thing at the nVidia booth.

I wonder if the one or two people at Nibris just go around message boards all day defending their vaporware game and stirring up shit.

In that case, nobody on GAF denies that Sadness is just as real as the Phantom ever was, and this discussion is pointless anyway.

The point is that he claimed that investors never saw the phantom. They did and the world did, now that they never released it or was scamming people is not relevant to this discussion.

No, investors are on companies like hawks. They dont just go around randomly giving out money and sit back for years waiting for their money to come back.

How many millions did investors give Infinium?

Sure but even so, do you think any person with their right minds would invest in a company for over 2 years without any results shown?

again, Infinium.

Firsly that is Wiki, secondly its not impossible that the project got way big for them to handle and it eventually failed.

now you just don't know what you're talking about. Infinium's "headquarters" turned out to be an empty room in a stripmall. talk about clutching at straws.

Gizmondo was no scam, it was just a poorly run biz.

...

Words fail me.

No wonder you were suckered by Nibris. :lol

Gizmondo was still a real product with games etc, it was poorly run. Its not a fraud in my eyes. Secondly the issue is not wheter the Phantom was or was not a scam/fraud/anything, its wheter the investors saw any progress during the time infinium got money. The answer to that question is YES they did.

And we're seeing progress with Sadness as well. Going from homemade black and white camera footage to concept art ripped straight from deviantart (and it was revealed as fanart for a different game, no less!), to a 3D maya mock-up with some photoshop filters thrown on it for good measure.

And now the press release that they've been working with a (real!!) licensed engine for a few months. But still not a single proper screenshot to show for it. Nice.

This baby screams vapourware.

It does scream that but I'm willing to actually bet that they will release something. Atleast we can agree on that its not just a joke, I hope.

In any case, it's a win-win situation. If it turns out to be vapourware, I was right all along. If they release something, I've got another Wii game to check out. :p

Both of those cases are known cases of investor fraud. If you don't see this, then it's really not worth discussing the issue, and you might as well believe Nintendo will make Nibris a first-party studio. They exist, after all.

It's possible that one day one of their games will get released, or be shown in a somewhat releasable form. After all, we have ninja-bread man, escape from bug island and whatnot. But it will be crappy at best, and non-existing if we're lucky.

I don't care for talking about Gizmondo, it was all about whether the phantom investors saw a progress or not. Which they did, that it is a scam is not related to what the discussion was about.

Edit: Why would it have to be a shit game?

Of course. Nibris has been fucking around for years now and they had an interesting premise but goddamn it's like they're a ghost. You may see images of phenomena around the house but no concrete evidence will ever exist.

Because if they aren't already a fraud:
they release fake art
make numeral false claims
lack any kind of modesty/achievability in their goals
seem to be unable to comprehend how releasing a commercial products goes
surround themselves with low budget game companies to release their products (frontline studios), and even those seem to leave them faster then it was announced

They seem to be highly incompetent and unprofessional in just about everything they do, and if the fanboyfactor and forum/bloghype wouldn't be so high because of their false promises, nobody would ever notice them.
IF they are able to get enough capable programmers and artists together to release something that is playable and passing Nintendo's QC (doesn't seem to hard looking at the recent list of shovelware) - it would still be just as big of an achievement as showing the phantom to people, or releasing the gizmondo: ie, an utter failure.

Nibris has revealed it is still looking for a publisher for its atmospheric black and white Wii thriller, Sadness.

The developer told Eurogamer that because of this the game remains without a release date - despite having been unveiled to the press more than two years ago.

Sadness is a "crime noir" horror adventure pitched at adults who like being scared. It is set back in World War I and has you controlling the hands of the hero by using the Wiimote and nunchuk. This should make you feel part of the action, apparently.

Nibris has previously told us its inspiration comes from the likes of Planescape: Torment and Eternal Darkness. You can expect an invisible save system and an absence of menus.

Anyone checked the Emergent homepage since the press release appeared? Sadness is everywhere on their frontpage, including the screenshot. All news on the frontpage are Sadness related, too. It seems to be Emergent's Wii reference project now...

I'll eat something like a dozen hats if this shot is actually taken from real-time in-game footage running on an actual Wii.
Not because it looks great (the fuss they're making about the oh-so-phenomenal graphical quality is absolutely ridiculous), just because Nibris never releases anything that hasn't gone through several image editing processes.

Also, the fact that they promised to release a trailer in 2007 should take away all the confidence in this one-and-a-half-year-scam.
