Hahahaha, even though they took out the getting drunk part, they kept in the kiss. Tumblr's gonna have a field day!

The getting drunk part was only from that episode where everyone goes to that English party with Mamoru...

Edit: Forget it, I looked at the manga again at the part after the battle, and yeah...she got drunk. I looked at the manga before posting this, but only before the battle...then I thought, wait...maybe the drink made her sleepy after the battle in the manga? And yeah, it was there. Heh.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 4:

So more and more we are learning this isn't the one to one manga adaption that we were expecting, though it isn't going off the reservation and doing its own thing like the old series did. Honestly, as trite as it is to say and for as shoujo as this version is, this is starting to turn into Sailor Moon: The Gritty Reboot. Mind you I can understand the concerns about comedy ruining a show, I mean Bleach is rife with shitty comedy that made an already sub-par show even worse but god damn it, Sailor Moon isn't supposed to be this joyless in the comedy department.
With the revelation that Jadeite is still alive and indeed the four kings show up all at once, it seems some wild cards are being thrown into the fray and I can respect this.
The animation seemed better this episode, but then again, Episode 3 is one of the worst animated things I have seen in a good long while so I suppose there was nowhere to go but up in that regard. Overall an alright episode, I never thought this one was one of the better affairs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

Art was fine, animation too, though I guess I am not that spoiled like the majority here and can enjoy the things that are showed there. And thus far, the anime was pretty faithful to the manga, the fact that Jadeite still lives doesnt make the anime suddenly bad.

In fact, I've read the manga a week ago and I felt that the 4 were just a waste because of their small panel time. I am interested in how they are going to be portrayed here.

Yeah, the Shitennou deserved better treatment in the manga. So hopefully if there is anything to come out of this remake, it's that.

I say he dodged a bullet there. Yes, it would've been nice, but I'm happy on his behalf that he didn't participate in this failure. No matter how much I try, I really cannot stop picking on certain things in the new anime, solely because of the animation.

This episode had some really nice moments though, I'm a huge sucker for MamoUsa and OH HEY look where they put the budget. lol

Yeah that's true. I know he loves the Mamoru character though, I remember him saying that it was his 4th favourite role ever, which is saying something considering his resume.

Maybe they'll flesh out the Sailor Senshi and Shittenou pairings. :p

Haha, I wonder how the fandom will react to that.

Oops, I didn't realize there was a reaction thread for Crystal. XD My bad. Copy-pasting from there, then.

- Yay, Luna introduction
- That arcade sequence between Rei and Ami is too adorable, wtf
- WAIT, HE'S ALIVE?
- On that note, Kunzite~
- Ohai manga-style Silver Crystal
- KENJI-PAPA
- Oh hey, the disguise pen gets an actual sequence this week.
- Vaguely foreign country does not appreciate your cat
- Let's dancing
- I love how Usagi basically went "oooh shiny" but Ami and Rei stayed on point
- NEW TIARA GET. +1 SP ATK
- Wow, Mako's voice is kinda hot, no lie.

Loved this episode, was much more into it than the last one (though I enjoyed that as well).

I do wonder how they will handle the 4 generals now that we know it's not 100% like the manga. When's the next episode again anyway?

1st Saturday and 3rd Saturday of every month, so September 6th.

I'm hoping that with August having 5 Saturdays, they'll make an exception with this. We'll see, though.
This episode title thing Zoe posted says 9/6 on episode 5. :(

Didn't really understand the whole new tiara thing; the last one got destroyed; that's a thing? Also moon laser beam is odd; does that not work in the daylight? Does that ever appear again or is that a one-off power like the subsonic crying?

Also so Tuxedo Mask definitely knows who Sailor Moon is now right? She was disguised as a princess but dropped her handkerchief with her real name on it which he found. Then Luna at the end just comes right out and tells Tuxedo Mask to get away from Usagi as she is transformed as Sailor Moon.

Did he find out right away in the manga like here? I always liked the reveal episode in the original anime where they have to transform in front of each other in order to fight for their lives.

In the manga they really have nothing disguising them. Usagi and Mamoru both made the recognition on the bus, but Usagi didn't believe it. Of course Mamoru's already serious about everything going on, so he followed her off the bus and was spying on her at the shrine.

Even in Crystal, there's a flash of him watching from the roof.

Favorite episode so far. Loved the part with the Four Kings introducing themselves. And loved the snippet of Makoto, can't wait for her debut! Does Minako debut in the episode after that or later?

I know it's stupid to pick at the story, but... when the three remaining kings joined Nephrite, why didn't they attack Sailor Scouts together? I mean, by that time they didn't know the princesses' treasure was worthless for them, they still wanted it. And yet appeared, introduced themselves and disappeared (even though they could probably easily defeat scouts at that very moment; it was 3 Sailor Guardians vs 4 Kings after all).

Probably not creative enough to come up with a scenario for that without messing up the original story.

I really liked this episode, much better than Act 3 and I love that Jadeite is alive, I really hoped they would change the not so great manga stuff, i was disappointed that it looked like a straight adaptation, this change gives me hope for the future of the series.

After more wifi hiccups, I finally got to watch the ep. Ugh that Mako tease at the end! Three weeks can't come soon enough. She was always my favorite growing up; the confident, thunderous, strong senshi.

Is this a yuri love triangle I see in Ep 4.

EDIT: THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD

Finally got a chance to catch up on the last two episodes.

After all the hate I saw aimed at ep 3 in this thread, I was expecting the worst.

But I actually enjoyed it. My favorite thus far.

And Sailor Mars' transformation and attack sequence remains fierce as fuck.

You guys are so picky. ;___;

Wow, Kamen is such a creeper here.

I missed tsuntsunMamoru.

You don't kiss sleeping girls bro.

That's sexual assault.

That ED just makes me want to rewatch Utena Adolescence Apocalypse, which is a billion times better than this.

I don't remember this, although College Mamoru dating Usagi was its own brand of creepy.

Shoujo is just fucked up yo.
The original anime had drunken unconscious Usagi + Tuxedo Kamen kiss except Tux had no idea who he was and no good reason to know who Usagi was either.

Sailor Moon Crystal 4

Call me part of the problem, but I honestly am preferring this more serious plot focus adaptation of Sailor Moon even if it does take a few liberties with the manga canon story over the comedic and episodic original anime. I also really don't miss Rei being the hot headed rival for Usagi and enjoy her as the more sheltered character who acts far more like a shrine maiden.

Yeah derp faces and animation abound, but overall I find myself more engrossed in this then I have after 28 episodes of the original anime.

It's weird (not in a bad way) to me how everyone is getting along compared to the old anime. The Four Kings are working together. Usagi and Rei aren't going at it. Mamoru and Usagi are already falling for each other. The Scouts didn't throw a plane at Jadeite. Seems like the old anime to a LOT of liberties. And that damn dub from back in the still has me subconciously viewing Zoisite as female, even though I know that's not the case.

Me too, its doubly weird for me weird for me watching the original anime as we're at the part Zoisite plays the lead role as villain.

Well, there's Zoicite and Kunzite being gay partners, let alone a female. His sexual orientation was never *really* shown in the manga. Couldn't have gay people back then, although he does look feminine to begin with.

That's why I made the little emphasis.

I should re-read Sailor V again... Wasn't
Minako x Kunzite kind of hinted as well?

Ace talks about how easily Minako falls in love back then, and there is a background image of Kunzite and Minako
