Not spending any money through the entire game only to splurg and buy every crib is such a good feeling.
I pretty much did the same thing, be sure to do activities to unlock
unlimited ammo
and keep the streak alive.

Put in about three hours so far and I've explored a bit of the city, done a sewerage and mayhem mission, and done two story missions. It's fun as expected, but the helicopter controls are a let down after GTA IV. In fact every vehicle feels second rate compared to GTA IV in terms of inertia and feeling right. Even last gen GTA games had better controlling choppers. Also, the LOD system is glaringly apparent in aircraft and reminds me greatly of last gen GTA games.

Saying that, I've had a lot more fun because there's a lot more variety in the "just mucking around" department. Tossing grannies into the front of moving vehicles never gets old :D

I'll quote myself because after a good sleep and a good play, the game has clicked for me and is fucking amazing. I'm more used to the cars now and I've found that if I tap the hand brake instead of holding it down I get some better reacting driving. I haven't tried the chopper again but will do tonight.

After doing a few pushbacks and a lot of Demo Derby, the game has really grown on me and I'm loving it like I did the first. I'm playing on hardcore and was getting my butt kicked on some of the pushbacks until I started taking human shields. When I was finished with them I'd throw them at the last remaining gang member - awesome. The amount of options you get to complete combat sequences is very refreshing and very entertaining.

The amount of stuff to do is pretty overwhelming really but in a good way. Can't wait to try fuzz missions.

About the choppers, really?

I find them much easier to control than in GTAIV, and I can actually hit shit with it.

Controls are perfect for me..

Oh, they're definitely much easier, just not as much fun for me as the GTA choppers seemed more realistic to a flight sim fan like me. I can land GTA choppers on a dime after literally hundreds of hours of practice with GTA games since Vice City.

The fixed wing aircraft are fun though and the first one I tried to steal had a wing broken off by a police car as I was on the runway but I still tried to take off anyway. Needless to say my first flight was very short and ended very violently :D Ooh, that reminds me, I haven't even tried parachuting yet!

I did that for the SMG and pistols. Don't need to use any other weapons.

Oh, and are there any other extra missions outside of
the Julius one from the police station?

Has problems recognising girls
Oh my god. I've had so many laughs with this game yet I've barely touched it. I am loving the fact that everything is opened up, no more stupid locked content (i.e. complete several missions in certain tier to get to island B!) and there are rewards for exploring. I was cruising around the trailer park zone, find a ho-ing deviation thing.. did it up within 5 mins and I get a full on pimp suit as a reward - within the first hour of play! Fuck yeah!!

Insurance Fraud and Mayhem are driving me mental right now, there's never enough around you. In Mayhem you sort of find yourself standing running desperately to find something to destroy but it's only ever the occasional cop car, while in Insurance Fraud you goto the circle and theres just no traffic, you get traffic coming from 1 direction at a time if your lucky and even then I've found myself starting around with nothing to throw myself into. How are you supposed to beat lvl 6 when theres nothing to fucking get hit by? GAH

I've only done up to level 3 for Mayhem but I can see that happening, I was constantly waiting for something to show up and it took me a few goes to complete it

Just to add about lock ups and the game freezing. On the PS3 version my bro' has it's frozen twice (over quite a few hours) but on the second time it buggered the settings on his PS3 - resolution settings, input settings, all kinds of odd stuff. No other games done that before. I hope it doesn't happen too often and it's also proof that the game can be unreliable on both the 360 and PS3.

FENCES man, FENCES. Driving through like 100m of fence gives you insane amounts of combo and money bonus in Mayhem... I got 150k in maybe 5-10 seconds doing that.

Well the secret to Mayhem is fences. Drive along a length of fence if you have a car, set satchel charges at regular intervals and blow them all together if you have them, worst case scenario you RPG the fence. The downer with the RPG is the reload time when compared to how quickly the combo meter empties when it gets high enough. Fences are your friend though, and primary source of raising your combo meter. Don't be afraid to blow other stuff too, benches, parking meters, light poles, mail boxes, tables, chairs. Blow anything not tied down.

Also Mayhem will cycle through a certain number of given locations, if you are really having trouble, start and cancel and see which areas are in the cycle then scout them out. Look high and low, in the most unlikely of places, in the factories district for example silos are surrounded by fences, and at least one factory is home to a hobo shanty village like what you destroyed at the start of the game, those shanties are 10k a pop and there's a bunch of em. Try using the bookmark feature to mark locations of fences, outdoor cafes with chairs/tables/umbrellas and other high value targets, put your bookmarks down in sequence to choreograph your route. Mayhem can be hard and frustrating, but it can be beat.

Insurance Fraud is another matter, it can be a total pain in the ass, but don't give up - adrenaline mode can rack up big points and save you in a hurry. Get to the highlighted special bonus area and hit whatever you can to build up your adrenaline meter. Once your in adrenaline mode it basically activates low gravity, so when you get hit you get launched. Play around with diving while in adrenaline mode, get a feel for what cars do what to you. I find while in adrenaline mode lower, sports cars just shoot me straight up a little bit, not much air and not many points.

Good Luck.

insurance fraud is easy as hell.

get to the bonus area and just throw yourself into vehicles over and over until you unlock the adrenaline mode. then line up with the biggest vehicle you see coming, and combo yourself off it for as long as possible.

mayhem is a fuckton easier or a bit dicier, it depends on the area you're in.

for the mayhem that alternates between the hotels & marina and suburbs areas, wait for it to be in the hotels and marina area, then go to the casino. go inside, go upstairs, and chain one long combo destroying everything inside, the slot machines, tables, the chandelier hanging, etc, then continue the combo downstairs, if you keep one combo going, you can get a million dollars in damage.

for the one that alternates between the factories, university and chinatown, there's an area when you make a right when entering the university area and then a right at the intersection that has an old, beat up wooden house with a wooden fence facing the backyard fences of several houses. combo all the fences in the area, this is quite a bit harder than casino due to cops flying at you with cars, but it's still doable.

just wondering if there is anyway to drive in first person? i swear you could in the original Saints Row, but perhaps I'm confusing it with GTA.

Anyhow, the manual doesn't mention it and I couldn't find anything on the interweb, but figured I'd ask here.

Am I the only one that prefers playing as a woman? I actually kind of prefer the way female actress #1 delivers her lines. Also, the female presence does a good job of offsetting all the macho bullshit from a lot of the other characters.

heh me too. I started with a guy, then got sick of him so I started as a woman. She looks good cutting people up with a katana.

I just wish I could find more swimsuits for my woman.
The sling is good for this open jacket combination I'm sporting but damn does it ever get me weird looks from my room-mate when I'm in the middle of changing clothes and wearing a really long piece of dental floss.\

Grecco said:
Stupid question. How do you get strippers in your crib ( I bought the stripper pole)

It's kind of weird. In the initial crib I bought a stripper pole and yet time and time again no strippers.

I buy a new crib and get a stripper pole installed in that one and sure enough, stripper as soon as I turn around.

can anyone tell me where the "underground taverns" are located? trying to do a hitman mission

It's a cave along the coast close to where you start the first brotherhood mission. I think that's the factory district. But yeah, just swim or drive around the NE coast of that area and you'll see it.

The game locked up twice as I tried to play co-op with MMaRsu. Maybe the game doesn't want me to co-op :lol

Hope to try again later tonight, though

Why'd you even bother to order it online? You obviously would've had it days ago if you actually went to a store. :/

The first time I tried to co-op with him it failed to connect 4+ times. He finally decided to restart his 360 and it worked right away.

Basically, whatever happens, it's usually his fault. :lol

keep your strippers out of my American football
Was playing and some random dude wanted to co-op, I accepted, then it said the guy had cheats on, so I disconnected him.

I play about an hour more and then it tells me that I have cheats enabled and won't get any achievements. Back to the last autosave....over an hour ago.

I gave multiplayer a try earlier and unfortunately it is very underwhelming. Strongarm is ok but most of the time it just ends up becoming gangsta brawl since nobody can be bothered to do the activities which aren't much good anyway especially since they dont give you all the info you need. For example when you do snatch it tells you to pick the girls up then take them to the blue marker but when I got there I waited for them to get out while being shot at and they just sat there making me die.
It doesn't help that I completely suck at getting kills. I dont know why but most of the time people seem to be moving faster than my crosshair even outside of fine aim which makes it very frustrating to get a hit in.

Az987

all good things
my game locks up everytime i play, its driving me nuts! but then when I restart it, it works fine.

I bet its my crappy xbox. or a combination of this game with my crappy xbox. Mercenaries 2 was giving me some problems as well but not as much as this.

What the hell is up with the lighting or filtering in this game? Outside always looks washed out as if the contrast on the tv was cranked all the way down and then if you go inside it's like the contrast it cranked all the way up. This is fucking ugly.

I went into a store thinking that I can rob them and open up the safe, but I couldn't. Did they take that out or do I have to go further in the game?

Can the plastic surgeon change your character's sex too or just hair/face? WHat about race?

Going to the plastic surgeon brings you back to the exact same menu you used to create your character at the beginning of the game.

ARRGH! there is a glitch on one of the Ronin missions :(
on the mission laundry day once you bring the car and the gun to the lady and she starts driving she pulls a hard right and drives straight into the wall... backs up and then speeds right back into the wall she does the repeatedly until the car explodes
i have redone the mission from the start and from checkpoint like 10 times but its the same thing every time!

EDIT:
ok she didn't hit the wall this time... instead she did 100mph right into the water
:lol

anyone else having this problem?

well, even before i finished half of the activities, i got infinite respect! also, man, fuzz was funny as hell!!!

then i played some co-op with my brother... well, after playing around in the game for 30 minutes waiting on him to design his character. he came straight into my co-op game right after doing it, he still had his prison jumpsuit on :lol :lol :lol

he was drooling at my fly penthouse near the airport, and drooling even more when i let him drive the bezier! ("OMG IT HAS TURBO?")

i showed off a bunch of weapons that he'll eventually get to use on his own and then we racked up 5 stars just generally killing people and blowing shit up.

after getting owned by the cops, we played trail blazer, that is a pretty fun activity to play in co-op. his excellent firebomb throwing really helped combat my sucky driving by giving us ample time to complete the races.

Where's that?

Damn game, should have come with a paper map. :(
first ronin mission shows you where it is. alternatively, it's near the top/right of the map in the hotel & marina district. huge building across from the boardwalk, limos outside, you can't miss it.

Just finished the game. Fucking awesome game that is just awesome.

And for comparison sake I'd say that this is better than GTA4 (there is no contest here), but I'm surprised by how good it actually is. Probably on par if not better than even the PS2 GTA games.

And while I like Stillwater and think that the changes were good enough from SR1, I hope that SR3 (which needs to happen and with a bigger budget) takes place in a new location.

Go to the cashier and aim at them normally (not in fine aim), it'll begin after a few seconds.

You can also grab them into human shield mode, it will tell you to walk them to the cash register or safe.

I'm sure there will be a new city in the third one. They got away with it this time but I doubt they will be able to give us Stillwater for a third time and keep people happy.

Agree on everything. I'm glad that they went back to Stillwater for this game, but I'm hoping for an all new city in part three.
