The UK's TV campaign started over the weekend - here's the spot they're using, quite a bit different from the US one

Much better than the US commercial.

On a side note, I started playing SR1 over the weekend and forgot how great even simple stuff like Snatch, Escort and Gang Pushback activities are.

Snatch with level 5 gang wanted level is awesome. Constant flow of drivebys, gang members gunning for you left and right and you're trying to survive and get the girls back to their club/"daddy"/whatever. Then you have the random stuff the results from all the action.. Like if you lead the enemy gang into Saints territory it'll result in an all out gang war. :D

Then there's Escort. I remembered about the news vans and the occasional car driven by a girlfriend/boyfriend that chases you, but I totally forgot about taking the clients to specific spots to up their.. enjoyment. Then at one point I have this cowboy going about his business in the back and I speed past this guy standing on a corner. The cowboy spots him and yells out something like, "That's the PI who's working for the guy that's trying to take my farm!". Now mid-mission, between dodging news vans, roadblocks, cars with ex girfriends, taking the client to special spots etc.. I now have to kill the PI before he can get the news/photos back to whoever hired him. :lol Then there's the audio "conversations" going on between the girl and the various clients in the back of the car. Holy shit! :lol!

Oh Gang Pushback, how I missed you so. Racing to the other side of the city because a rival gang is trying to take back their territory. An all out gang war is in effect with innocents being chased, beaten and killed by your rivals who are desperately trying to wipe your gang off the map. Waves upon waves of death and destruction. You're taking out gang members, generals, saving innocents, helping your crew and out of the corner of my eye I spot a crosshair on the radar. Wait, what.. a Hitman target? Oh shit! So mid-chaos I run over, pull out the required weapon and knife the guy to death before getting back to business. So awesome.

One more day left. <3

Man this game is so bad :lol Saints Row 1 pulled it off because it was the first next gen sandbox game, but man.. Its hard to see why it took so long for a sequel when so much is straight out of SR1 even down to the same map and glitches.

I think they were working very hard on staying away from GTA4 release windows.

Fuck it I'm picking this up anyway. If it's dissapointing ( which I doubt, but hey ) then I'll trade it with whoever for Fable 2.

BRING IT ON VOLITION!

It's more of the same, but better. Coop also makes everything more fun, like when a high speed police chase ends because your coop partner decided to land a plane on your street...and you.

My only real beef has to do with one of the unlockable weapons
the flamethrower does the same amount of fire damage as everything else, so you have to blast people twice, or stand there flaming them till they do die all the while getting shot at, I expected better =/

But there's still the arm flailing animation when people catch on fire. In which case, it's not exactly hard to kill someone with it and still be relatively safe. As you said, torch 'em and they burn and run around, then once it goes out, torch 'em again.

The only time it looked stupid to me is during Zombie Uprising, because they don't react to the flames at all. Still, the very idea of a flaming zombie grabbing you and biting your face is hilarious. :lol

I know, it's a very minor beef, game is really fun :D

Love how the crib money stash goes forever now. After doing all the hitman targets I swung by and grabbed 92k. Good times.

Coop, just about anything coop. Coop zombie uprising is great fun. Had a bunch of fun playing Fuzz with my friend online, I managed to fuck up a few turns and it took too long to get our car righted to keep going, so the next time I got my friend to drive, he tried a shortcut and managed to get the car stuck on top of a table, so after some wild swearing I jumped out grabbed another car and took off with the cameraman finishing it solo :lol

Mostly I like doing the activities with a friend, the missions themselves aren't anything all that special or groundbreaking. Could have been the fact it was like 7am after playing together for 6 hours, but I don't think either of us enjoyed Septic Avenger. Doing the Demolition Derby with a friend is insanely fun, had a bunch of near misses.

While it's nice that you can free roam anywhere while playing coop, it can also be a bit of a pain, I'll be standing around doing something really innocuous and end up with 3 stars worth of cops after me. It usually tends to happen while in a store buying something, or looking at the map trying to find something.

The Chop Shop has been improved and is less painful this time around, you can now deliver cars to any Chop Shop location. The Hitman stuff is a lot less painful too, people actually spawn where they should and there is a bit of detective work involved with some of the targets, like having to track down a specific location that isn't listed on the map.

Again, I generally like doing the activities with a coop partner more fun than the actual missions, doing stuff like Mayhem and Insurance Fraud (you can run your coop partner over for money!! :lol) is really fun. Just screwing around in coop is good times too, my friend will often try to shoot or beat me to death and I'll just stand my ground and stun lock him with the stun gun :lol

I know you put a lot of hours into SR1 and so did I, I can't think of any changes that have made SR2 worse. Seemingly everything that they tweaked has been an improvement, like the Chop Shop deliver to wherever thing, the no cap crib money stash, a lot fewer push attacks on your hoods (I seem to average 1 every 2-3 hours, if that) when you unlock infinite ammo it isn't just a shitload of bullets in your crib, it simply applies infinite ammo to whatever you currently have equipped.

I actually just fired up SR2 before I saw your post, I'll add stuff if I think of anything else.

Edit: Snatch in coop is a pain in the ass, you can only recruit 1 ho each at a time and your ho's can/will be stolen back and you have to go rescue them before you can collect more.

The melee only weapon stores are kind of annoying since they have the same map icon as Friendly Fire. A whopping 1 would have been more than enough since there's not really all that many melee weapons anyway, but instead whenever you need ammo..you're actually right beside a store selling baseball bats.

The lack of a running melee attack is kind of weird and would be useful for certain activities like Fuzz where sometimes melee = better score. The very first level of Fuzz I played I had to run some guy down and beat him up, ran around behind him swinging at air for a couple minutes before finally grabbing him and throwing him into a wall before laying the smack down.

Hmm thanks that's cool man :D. What about your favorite single player things or didn't you put alot of hours into the SP yet?

Curious to know what your stats are as well. Basically what I want to know is, is it still a whole lotta fun if you've put alot of hours into SR1.

Seems like British guys can get this game real cheap, I think it's some kind of error.

Don't blame me if they cancel your overly cheap pre-order, but reward me when ir works.

Single player is fine, I played my first 8 hours or so solo and had a lot of fun. I had watched the 25 first minutes video and a few streams of pirated copies so I already knew a lot about the start of the game going in and still had a lot of fun doing it myself. I spent the first few hours cruising around blasting The Final Countdown on the custom radio station, went around and uncovered all the stores/activities and then went to town with the Chop Shop and Hitman activities.

It's not so much a SR2 as it is a SR1.5 with a lot of influence from GTA San Andreas, if you liked the content of either of those, there's more of it here.

As far as favorite single player things are, I mostly prefer the more laid back stuff, like the Chop Shop. Or doing Ambulance/Fire Truck/Taxi/Mugging/Hold-Ups/Base Jumping/Poker/Blackjack/Zombie Uprising.

There's a lot to do in SR2, and all of it is fun.

Anyone have any idea what Barnstorming is?

Well as far as I know the 360 version was the only one that leaked, and instore the only retail copies I've seen people play are 360 versions so...naturally I assumed nobody has played it yet :p.

Hey Rayne, have you done the Red Light District Escort to level 3/6? Really useful unlockable
call to have a car from your garage brought to you

I'll just leave this here.

Does anyone have any experience with FYE as far as getting games on the release date? I have a gift card and wanted to pick this up, but I've never bought a game from there.

So for you guys with the game, tell me about the framerate. I played through the first and at times the framerate was atrocious. I already read here that there's an option for V sync to avoid screen tear. With all of the "it looks pretty much the same as part 1" comments I'm really only concerned about the framerate. I actually liked the sharpness of the image in the first game, and I welcome it now that GTA used the whole blur the distance crap that looks aweful on my big TV.

framerate ain't pretty, but it doesn't drop to single digits as much as the first game.

Do you still have SR1 to compare? I've been playing it recently and sometimes it's pretty bad, but nothing unmanagable.

Yeah, it's better than the first, the only time i got really bad frame drops was with tons of cars exploding on screen and that. I would think most of the time it's around 25fps.

not a perfect situation, but after a while you barely notice.

Nozdeuce

Frame rate is mostly stable, or at the least stable enough. I've had it slow to a crawl maybe 3 times while playing coop. I've also had the game crash/freeze a few times. All while doing coop, twice while not really doing much and once while my friend started a hostage mission, think i was speeding through traffic returning a chop shop vehicle (with cops after me). While playing by myself I haven't had any freezes or unbearable framerate drops

It'll be cool once the game is actually out to hear the tales of explosive misadventures. Has anyone actually tried the low gravity cheat? Saints Row + Poor Man's Crackdown could be interesting, especially with coop

I'll be sure to post all of my epic tales of destruction once I get my hands on it tomorrow. :D

I'm pondering whether I should start the story first or just make a separate save and cause mayhem with cheats. Ped War + Low Gravity + Super Explosions etc etc....so awesome.

Good review, although I feel he could have touched on the Story a bit more and less on the activities, or at least 50/50.

the activities are almost a larger part of the game :lol

you could spend 15 hours on the story, 30 on the activities.

just lost another hours worth of activities because of a freeze. the lesson: save very very often!

It's not that bad, I've yet to have a single player crash..

Also, a really fun way to fuck with your coop partner is to engage cruise control as you slow the car down to get out. I had left it on and we hopped out and breach and cleared some store or something, came out and the car ran him over :lol
