Doesn't tumblr love Steven Universe? That show where a young rock n roll man falls in love with a thousand year old alien war criminal, and they end up having a kid.

Wow, so pedophilia includes a 70-year-old dating a 20-year-old legal adult.

You learn something new everyday...

I mean, it's not pedophilia, but I get ribbed my friends for being skeevy because I'd be open to dating a 20 year old when I'm 27 (I'm not dating a 20 year old, just that I'd be open to it). I had an uncle who was around 40 that married a 19 year old that people gave him side eyes for.

It's less an age thing and more just life experience. In my experience, people generally truly start being adult when they hit around 22-23.

But like I said, Samurai Jack isn't a show of realistic psychology. If it were, all the characters would be way more messed up than they are before romancing anyone even enters the picture.

They might've been more open to it because love's been at the forefront of that show since day one and we knew about that relationship from day one. Even then, they had plenty of time to build up to the moments where you see Greg (Steven's dad) and Rose (Steven's mom) together.

I can already tell that "Don't watch Season 5. It's trash," is gonna be the general consensus when Samurai Jack is brought up a few years from now.

And to be fair there are other relationships as well that they can latch on to (Pearl's with Rose, Garnet's whole thing, etc).

So any bets on what is Jack looking at in the preview? I would say the Guardian himself but that would be crazy.

PSA: shit coming from 4chan is going to be exponentially worse than someone on tumblr crying about their feelings. Extremist tumblr might need some counseling and a better-paying job, but extremist 4chan is out there winning elections because muh political correctness and statistically turning millennials more racist than the generation prior and whatnot.

I think the main argument against the whole Jack / Ashi thing is that Jack has several decades of world experience as a relatively "balanced" adult, the whole Aku thing notwithstanding, while Ashi was brought up via training-from-hell and brainwashing for... (how old is she? 20-ish?) about twenty years and only recently started acclimating to "real" social situations. It's not that it's necessarily wrong for Jack to get together with Ashi, I think it has more to do with the fact that the low episode count combined with some mentioned pacing issues mean we have to get on board with Ashi becoming a "normal" adult and potential love interest after seeing her interact with all of, like, 5 or 6 unique groups of people without it turning into a fight.

Additionally, earlier on in the season people were already suggesting Jack / Ashi was a thing, and that was when Jack was still suffering from severe PTSD and wrestling with his inner demons while Ashi was more or less a machine solely dedicated to killing Jack, which, yeah, at that point seemed like a really bizarre relationship to force. I'm at least glad they made it as hamfisted as possible with the hard cut to them frenching, but at the same time I think it'd also be a hilarious curveball if next episode Jack and Ashi more or less write it off as a moment of life-or-death passion and stay platonic afterwards because there's still some, uh... baggage relevant to the whole situation.

There's only one season of SBT. And you just made me sad.

This Ashi/Jack stuff, is this an actual controversy? Could people not see where this was going from basically second 1? Isn't this epilogue being watched by people who grew up with Jack, who should be in their 30s or so by now?
Interesting, iTunes says there's two seasons, but Wikipedia says one. Weird! Regardless, I enjoyed it and want more.

And I totally agree with your second point. I wasn't expecting the reaction this episode got.

I can already tell that "Don't watch Season 5. It's trash," is gonna be the general consensus when Samurai Jack is brought up a few years from now.

Which is a shame, since even the weaker episodes are still enjoyable. I really hope you're wrong and that opinion is relegated to a vocal, whiny minority. Season 5 isn't perfect but I've liked it a lot so far and I'm glad we even got it.

These episodes are a pacing catastrophe. First three are the pinnacle tho

I mean, regardless of the pacing issues, it certainly isn't crap compared to the previous seasons. So yea, the only way I could see someone genuinely telling others to avoid this season is if they are really that bent out of shape over Jack hooking up with Ashi.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Anyone that says this season is bad is full of crap and has the worst of taste.
They should be ignored and snubbed.

It's weird, I was liking Ashi, but this episode convinced me she is overstaying her welcome. Her character dynamic with Jack is basically Jack saying funny things and Ashi just existing. There isn't anything left to her character after her transition to a hero.

Thought they were going to avoid going down this path with ashi because it was too obvious. But no here we are.

In general I've gotten to the point where it's cringeworthy for this to happen in shows. Platonic would have been a better way to handle it.

I would have been fine with romance if there was more to Ashi's character.

But she was boring in this episode. Which is a shame when Genndy clearly put so much work into her for this season. Hopefully she either leaves next episode or develops some more quirks.

Hah, that was a fun episode. x)

I feel the animator's had a good time of it too! Instead of any (ANY) will they/won't they, I'm glad they just committed to the gag and let every visual speak for itself. Then if it wasn't obvious enough (somehow) they stopped any/all tricks and throw it up to the cheesiest/perfect song.

Not sure how well it really fits the series...but ta hell with it; beats the way some other shows dance around the subject two seasons too long.

Yeah I expected from the first time they showed her in a leaf bikini. Would have been a swerve to stay platonic.

About what I expected from the reactions here :p

I guess I would be happy too but the pacing has been killer this season. And I have complaints about how Jack's PTSD arc has been handled.

I don't think this romance is wrong or creepy but a 70 year old man in a 20 year old body banging an "abused child turned assassin who didn't know what two deer petting each other was, atleast she's 20" is kinda weird, atleast for SJ. (It's going to be hard to get my IRL friends into this now, too anime for them, lol) Not that I blame Jack, I'd tap that ass too. I kinda wonder why I'm not feeling this romance. I guess it just feels rushed.

I see here posters crying about Steven Universe shippers being hypocrites and I roll my eyes. That show was about romance from the start. And let me make it clear I am not a fan of SU, in fact, I dislike it. A lot.

I'm lightly enjoying the salt from Tumblr. But nothing can top LePen's loss, awwww yeah.
But anyway, I'm still excited for next weekend.

that last episode, in my honest opinion, was a complete waste of time. nothing really happened to advance the plot other than the two falling in love. is Ashi supposed to make Jack change his mind about his 50 year mission to go back in time and destroy Aku in order to save the universe? doesn't make much sense.

What if Jack Spares Aku?

I'm starting to think it will happen.

that makes no fucking sense.
