Liam Robertson talks Scalebound's cancellation, and factors that may have caused the cancellation.

Those games will be announced at E3 2017.
"WE FEEL THIS IS BEST FOR GAMERS." Fucking lol.
People can keep drinking the Saviour Phil Kool-Aid if they want. Maybe they'll learn when the next piece of tragic news hits. But probably not.
Sad that this happened but what does this mean for Platinum and MS relationship?
Not really relevant to the point of "big AAA developer/publishers moving away from big-budget single-player story driven games to focus on a multiplayer microtransaction-focused games-as-a-service business model."
The biggest disappointment for me is that Kamiya and Platinum in general lost time in which they could actually make something...

@MikeMcWhertor the news got to me in confidence as of Thurs. what I was told made me feel sick.
Now I really want to know what happened here.
Microsoft would rather have 3 games make 500 million than 10 games making 500 million. Go big or go home.
Crackdown wasn't cancelled.
Fable Legends wasn't really a "big game".
Do you think this puts off other devs from working with Microsoft?
Wait, really? Where the hell did that money all get put? The product they had when it got shut down was nowhere near indicative of that. No wonder it got killed. It had like 75 million dollars poured into development so yes it was
How wasnt it big?
It had a budget of $70 million...
That is a bigger budget than literally the vast majority of games out there.
Edit: actually I think it is one of the biggest budgets ever
Its not looking good...
I'm sure there's two sides but this seems really bad

Do Microsoft own the assets and ip, or can pg shop this elsewhere?
The guy is full of shit.
On Metacritic:
Code:91 Bayonetta 2 90 Bayonetta 84 Vanquish 83 Metal Gear Rising 81 MadWorld 78 The Wonderful 101 77 Transformers: Devastation 75 Infinite Space 74 Star Fox Guard 73 Anarchy Reigns 69 Star Fox Zero 64 The Legend of Korra 55 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhatthan
You'll also find that most of the low rated ones were smaller games made on a tight budget...

Too bad that those 3 games aren't exactly that big anymore. Sure they sell well but Halo, Gears and Forza are not the juggernauts they once were. Samey sequels are just going to make their decline go faster.
It wasn't a $60 AAA title I guess? Bonkers investment for a sub par F2P game. What we're they thinking? How wasnt it big?

I mean. You seem to have the same conclusions as this person. Both of you are guessing.

On a "he said she said" situation, look for reputation.
I'm sorry, but Platinum's reputation on budget and deadlines is sterling. Microsoft's reputation with managing projects is not. Without more information, I see absolutely no logic in attributing a large portion of the blame with Platinum.
Not sure why I keep seeing this throughout the thread. I can't think of a bad Platinum game outside of their Activision efforts, which are far from half of the games they've released. I haven't played Star Fox, but even factoring that in, it's still not close to being half.

Other Gears games sold better than 4 on a smaller hardware base.
Also the math between consoles sold and leading software performance isn't linear.
It's much more complicated than that.
Just to clear up something, four of the nine MS titles were announced/shown in 2013: Project Spark (released though), Below, Fable Legends, Halo 5. So 5 of the 9 were brand new.
Since I see you two keep going back and forth, but nobody actually factchecking that part
I get that you're saying the comparison should be between games that were new announcements at E3. I get that part.
The part i don't think you're understanding is i'm comparing both conferences as a whole of what they decided to show, not just the new stuff. I think it's important to see that Sony focused on already announced titles, while Microsoft went ahead with showing games that were far from completion. While your list is omitting that part.
It's all Microsoft's.
Sad that this happened but what does this mean for Platinum and MS relationship?
When you include a game as a headliner in a group of 5 games (that include Gears, Halo, Tomb Raider, and Forza) and call it the "greatest games lineup in Xbox history" it's a big game. A game with a 70 million dollar budget? Absolutely a big game.Fable Legends wasn't really a "big game".
Exactly.On Metacritic:
Code:91 Bayonetta 2 90 Bayonetta 84 Vanquish 83 Metal Gear Rising 81 MadWorld 78 The Wonderful 101 77 Transformers: Devastation 75 Infinite Space 74 Star Fox Guard 73 Anarchy Reigns 69 Star Fox Zero 64 The Legend of Korra 55 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhatthan

That's cancelling a game on Sony's part.
Technically, if Platinum could buy the IP back from Microsoft that's exactly the same situation.
Their problem is picking the right publisher to work with, they really haven't found a publisher that can work with them in a long term stable relationship, not sure why they've been shunning Sony so far.Personally the game did not appeal to me in the slightest , felt like they were desperately trying to hit the Japan market (just give up already ms , it's never going to happen).
The fact it run and looked like dogshit on its e3 showings also didn't help . The game would have bombed worse then all there other recent bombs.
Should have created another subset overdrive or some other new ip. Yes they bombed also but they look way more fun than this game ever did.
Seems like platinum are really dropping the ball of late , first teenage mutant ninja turtle bombs and now this , feels like they overexpanded and just keep having publisher issues .

I don't get it. Less games is a good result for Xbox players? What?
Ok....
All I said was that they have made some stinkers. I don't give a shit what the budget is or if it was promoted.
