Was a rant, but not an angry one, he's laughin (at MS) most of the time, unlike that special one back then in the day...
PS3 managed to recover from a bad launch, while XBO did not. While I think there is some merit to your model that early momentum is important for future success, it can't explain how this happened. The alternative hypothesis that lots of diverse exclusives gets people to jump in can. (At least if you accept the premise that Sony did a lot more to get a larger number of diverse exclusives on PS3 than MS has done on XBO.)

What games are MS going to use to push the Scorpio? Seems they'll have to buy the rights to some 3p game and soup it up in time for launch. Expecting devs to flock to the machine just because it's powerful seems very risky considering the difference in install base of Xbox and PS this gen. Why would a dev realistically prioritize the Scorpio? It's a shame because you'd think the Scorpio would have the capability to do Scalebound the right way.
Two generations prior. SMS was set up during PS1 era. When MS were still backing Sega.Didn't Sony start their first party iniative during the PS3 era when they were behind MS install base wise?
Can I play my PS1 titles on the PS4 that is plenty of substance?

Forza 7 I guess. I don't see Crackdown releasing this year.
MS via IGN said:"Were working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.
Spencer's approach is awful. The Scorpio is not going to reverse anything. People will not buy a console simply because it is more powerful. That is not going to happen.
Halo 3 Anniversary
Fallout 4 VR
Minecraft VR
Lots of VR
No doubt, but it sure as hell isn't gonna sell much Scorpio HW imo. They really need to nail that software lineup come E3.Latest Sea of Thieves vid looks pretty good visual wise. Will probably look even better in 4K.
You say this in this era haha.![]()

PS4 was also $100 cheaper though at launch than the Xbone
Thats just one studio.
Sure offcourse. But there is a reason digital foundry got so popular suddenly this gen haha.

Sure they set up the building blocks in place but it didn't really kick off until PS3. At the onset Sony couldn't count on the 3rd party support that had won them the generation back in the PS2 era.
They dug deep and invested heavily in 1st and 2nd party games. With PS3 Sony needed to dig deep and deliver exclusive after exclusive after exclusive and did just that.
MS needs to do the same thing.
PS4 was the more powerful, cheaper console, which was going to get more thirdparties (Xbox being dead in Japan), more first parties people actually wanted(vs Kinect which noone wanted).
And it didn't have a DRM fiasco.
It wasn't just power.
Ahh okay, neat. Hope it doesn't slip or something else.I'm pretty sure they reiterated yesterday that Crackdown 3 is launching this year.
I recall reading that somewhere. (Probably Reddit)

power probably has the least to do with the PS4 being on top this gen. DF is popular on sites like gaf and other enthusiast circles but it has fuck all of an influence on the general audience

Lol, I sure as hell will!

The only issue is it's pretty obvious MS is clamping down on the funding Xbox gets. Unlike the PS3 the Xbox One has no rest of the globe to depend on to recoup the investment.
MS would pretty much have to do this knowing that in all likelihood they're gonna lose more and more money before they make money.
Halo 3 Anniversary
Fallout 4 VR
Minecraft VR
Lots of VR
Like the many gamers that bought a PS4 Pro.
Power barely made much difference, are you forgetting x1 was $100 more, kinect and the DRM backlash? The difference in multiplats is not very big, most would not notice it. Power is the least of x1's issues. A more powerful x1 is not going to change anything.
OK, but he clearly means on a large scale, and he is right.
hasn't 343 specifically said Halo 3 Anniversary is not in the works at all at this point?
Frank O'Connor did http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=224193951&postcount=49
but they could be planning it as a surprise for E3.

Ummm... someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming Sony never returns to trying to push Cell-like exotic hardware with their consoles and keep going forward with x86 architecture with future PS consoles, backwards compatibility is not costly at all. There won't be any need for any kind of emulation, the future hardware should be able to play everything natively so long as every subsequent console is more powerful than the last.Regarding Sony future BC, I don't think Sony will do it.
Software emulation could be tricky (costly),
hardware emulation reduces their profitability on each console,
+by doing any of the above they would reduce their profitability in remasters, PS Now, and gamers having to rebuy classic games
So, from a business standpoint, nope, they won't do it
I'm in.
You would be correct. Why would someone with a decent gaming PC consider the Scorpio unless you like extra junk laying around for no reason. You get the same software on PC with usually much better performance/bells & whistles.I'm willing to bet a large portion of those gamers have a decently beefy PC as well. Those people aren't going to buy Scorpio when they can just keep their PCs.
I'm in.
So you bought a PS4 Pro as well?
