Scalpers Having Hard Time Offloading PS5s Now

Oh

Yeah LO

If true you are an asshole (a smarter one) and part of the problem.

sorry what? I was running a second business selling electricals and smartphones no different to any other shop.

I'm not sure if you are aware but small businesses buy stock cheaper in bulk from suppliers and... shock horror... sell for a profit.

dumb scalpers should cut their losses and liquidate their inventories at a deep discount.

because they are dumb they will continue to hold on and lose even more in the end.

Reselling PS5s hasn't been worth the effort for quite a while now, especially if you're selling online.

It would be really good to see how they managed to turn the tap on supply wise. Out of nowhere, bang, fucking PS5s everywhere. I can't go anywhere without seeing crates of them.

only dumb scalpers pay retail prices

Apps like crepchiefnotify and others exist for good reason. I was able to flip around 400 units within 2 months at launch , got them at like 40% off retail too.

You're not supposed to give away your methods, you'll just make competition for yourself next time.

No, let's see these receipts for them 40% off at launch.

There are literally hundreds of suppliers offering 30-40% off even now.

Depends on the bundles and such, and of course shipping, but I have been a long standing client of my supplier and they gave me special treatment. This is not uncommon, I really don't have to justify anything to you mate.

You're acting as if I sold millions of dollars of these things or something. I didn't. 400 units flipped was a one and done, I'm a dropshipper in my spare time.

Edit - just FYI, nin order of 1 box doesn't mean 1 console, a box is typically 25 units, it depends on supplier / country. Taiwan is a good place to find suppliers.

These posts online ( the link not this post) are fucking obnoxious. They cite what a few examples of morons that still have some PS5s and act like it is a big deal. Of course there are some cases of people who tried to scalp PS5s last Xmas and still have yet to unload them. So what? It is not news. It is insignificant.

Even scalping itself was not as big as people blow it up to be. People would see the PS5 in stock at ebay, hundreds of them that stayed in stock for many hours and declare that most PS5s are going to scalpers when in reality it was less than 10%. More recently the same happened with 4090s. People were complaining about scalpers because a few hundred total were sold on ebay when Nvidia shipped over 100k of them.

The demand was super high and the products sold out instantly. Scalpers hoarded a significant quantity that represented a small fraction of the total product and they sell these at high prices. They take much longer to sell due to the price but the visibility makes it seem worse. The demand was so high, that if they scalpers disappeared and put their stock back to where they got it, it wouldn't have changed much of anything. All scalping does is take maybe 10% of the inventory and shift it to the people who can afford to pay to get the item instead of waiting and/or trying over and over to be lucky during the next drop. It sucks and has bad optics, but the reason you failed to get what you wanted is not due to the scalpers, it is due to the high demand. You lost at the 90% of inventory that was bought at retail and kept, there is no sense in worrying about the 10% resold.

The worst form of scalping is what assholes do on Amazon and Walmart. They list products that go out of stock for higher prices and shoppers who do not know any better and only shop Amazon end up buying these overpriced items when Amazon goes out of stock. I am not talking about scalping electronics, but cheaper products like toys, small kitchen appliances, anything really. If someone is casually shopping for stuff they are likely to look at something that is out of stock, not know what the best price is and buy it because they trust Amazon. Nobody is going to accidentally buy a GPU for 2x, but buying a $10 item for $15 or something like that is not going to set off alarms. Millions probably get duped by this practice. Those buying scalped PS5s know they are paying more, those buying the higher priced items that look like Amazon is selling them but are 3rd party scalpers are probably not aware.

I would say around 90% of Amazon's stock is price gauged by upwards of 50-70% AliBaba stock. If this is news to you I'm sorry but it's how the system works.

I literally scoped a product yesterday that is $5 on AliBaba, and more than 1,400 reviews and orders selling in the US Amazon for $49.99 average

It's supply and demand, and if consumers are dumb enough to not literally google the product name and see it can be purchased elsewhere for 80% cheaper, that is their problem. I'm not losing an ounce of sleep over what I do.

Lol, whatever you've got to tell yourself.

I actually have working relationships with REAL suppliers running back decades. They don't magically get these consoles for 40% off. These scam websites you posted don't get them for 40% off.

And why would you need a supplier in Taiwan (who also don't get consoles for 40% off) when your 5 minute bot was getting them.

Do you have any remote idea how long it would take to ship 400 consoles from Taiwan out of there? Having shipped freight from Japan I'll tell you, it's multiple months before you're able to access it at port.

You couldn't be more full of shit.

Especially when you're posting about looking for the consoles in the supermarkets after launch.

Lol, whatever you've got to tell yourself.

Yes the shipping time was horrible, I didn't get the delivery in one either, it came in 2 parts over 3 months. Thats just the nature of the beast.

You are basically suffering from experience bias right here. Yes, I posted a few times in the thread for PS5's when our supermarkets here in the UK had supply, and I even bought someon behalf of members and shipped for them. As I said, I did one bulk buy and sold them all on ebay before they even got delivered to me, people where that thirsty.

I buy from Taiwan suppliers because I have a good connect there, who has good connects for shipping. Just because you do what you do doesn't mean it's efficient or whatever everyone else does.

Lol, no you didn't.

I'm done here, but it just needed to be said how fucking stupid everything you've said in here is.

What people define as 'scalpers' here are typically just kids that buy the console using a bot that they didn't even create themselves, and then sell for 2-3x the price on facebook / ebay / whatever and pay no tax.

Small businesses that buy in bulk from a supplier and sell for smaller margins is basically the business model for any small business. Very different kettle of fish. The most I 'oversold' a console for was around +$370, and 50 of that was because it needed to be shipped to australia with insurance.

Haters gonna hate I guess. Peace out.

And some of them have still made hundreds of thousands of dollars with scalping. Even I sold my first PS5 due to it making weird noises with a 200$ plus. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Karma and all that, but the damage has already been done. And while doing it, the smart ones made enough money at it that it guarantees they do it again when the next opportunity presents itself.

I feel the platform holders should come up with more stringent ways to curb scalping. Eg, on the PS platform it would be a good opportunity where having a PS+ sub means something. There should be a way for people with PS subs that have been active for at least 18 months can order their new console online or something. Sites like Gamestop at some point sold consoles based on membership, why cant the platform holders do the same?

There are also a lot of family types (mothers, older people) that seem to have profited on scalping PS5s out of Japan. Im kinda hoping they sold theirs. Just to make the tiny amount of extra income they could.

But its been crazy how well organised the whole scalping scene has been around the PS5 in Japan.

It's honestly hard to image that scalpers were still hording these things even a year ago, let alone today. Not the brightest lights there.

I like the PS5 and still look at it as a new console (released in nov. 2020) and so to me the stock situation was unfortunate people were prepared to go to scalpers.

Yea , this years they greed has been unstopable....specially Ford dealers..

What's the story behind that?

I mean used car prices seem to still suck; drove past a crappy used car dealership and all their cars were mid-200's to mid-2010's and were no less than $10k-$12k.

Over here, in the UK, I've started to see PS5 Digital Editions appear in those arcade machines where you have to move some scissors/blade to cut a piece of string to release the prize.
(YouTube tells us those machines are a scam and to basically ignore them until you can see the string is very very frayed. Could be a while because I'm yet to actually see anyone play that machine.)

I've also noticed the Stock-Checker twitter accounts post about PS5's and PS5 bundles a bit more often.
