You're conflating "holy matrimony" with "civil marriage contract."

There is no little asterisk on the 14th Amendment that says "equal protection of the laws (*except for civil marriage laws)."
There's also no asterisk that says "all persons born or naturalized (*except for the faggots)."

It's not a judge's job to take it upon himself to scribble those little exceptions into the margins of the U.S. Constitution. If you want those lines in the law, you're free to seek an amendment.

According to Double Down book, Obama was just about to announce open support Gay Marriage, but Joe Biden stole his thunder, and a lot of Obama's advisors were really pissed because it gave impressionn that Biden forced Obama's hands whatever he would do.

While I don't agree with it, Robert's dissenting opinion is actually grounded and I can see his point of view that this ruling is taking away the choice of "defining" marriage away from the people. I feel it necessary though to put this in the SCOTUS hands really since this should be a basic right for all people.

Something that I've always wondered about people who say that gay marriage will lead to the apocalypse - Why didn't the Holocaust lead the the apocalypse? I mean MURDER is so important to your god that it's one of the 10 commandments, so why didn't something of that stature lead to the end of the world? Why is gay marriage going to be the culprit?

denying someone the right to marry who they love is pretty unequal.

Except it explicitly is about the right to marry, because by limiting marriage to heterosexual couples, regardless of what the "definition" of marriage is, you are abridging the privileges of homosexual citizens and couples. The Constitution does not address what marriage is and means, and affords it no special sacred position distinct from other social institutions. What it does address is the right of citizens to be equal in the eyes of the law.

It's the right decision and the one that needed to happen. Not sure if it was the right decision on the legal issues presented by the specific case that was before the court, but in the long run we had to get here and they knew it. Hopefully someday we can abandon this ancient construct called marriage though. I'd rather live in a "Logan's Run" society . . . Well except for the death at 30 thing.

SCOTUS rulings seem a bit different than the Canadian ones I'm used to reading, a lot more... informal than I would expect from the dissenting opinions (Roberts excluded)

In fairness, the dissents on this are certainly on the extreme end of what you'll see.
 
I wonder if this might finally give countries such as my own the nudge to finally get with the times.

And why aren't you happy about this? If this brings about Judgement Day, then certainly you'll go to Heaven and all these horrible people will be condemned. What's the downside for you?
 
I think this is the one time I've been truly envious of your country, Americans. Great job. Hopefully other countries will soon follow with similar decisions of their own.
