Second Kirby Direct Oct 23

Worst selling and reviewing game for Nintendo in a while coming up!

You can show it a hundred times only 5 people care and they are here on GAF.

It'll be interesting to see how it performs. The last direct gathered way more interest than I expected though.

And I don't think anything will review worse than Welcome Tour and/or Drag x Drive for Nintendo in quite a while.

I think it looks really interesting. On the other hand, the timing makes no sense and should have been a holiday 2026 or early 2027 title as it's just too close to Mario Kart. On the other other hand, Nintendo can put KAR in the rear view mirror and put Sakurai to work in the Smash Brothers mine.

Is this game made entirely for Switch 2? If so, I have big concerns that Nintendo will not make any exclusives up to spec. Every game they've released has barely looked better than their Switch 1 games...they had an excuse, sort of, but not when a game is made for the ground up like this (most likely).

This is how they got Sakurai to work on Smash Bros. all these years.

"Yes, YES, of course you can do air riders again."

"And I want TWO directs."

>sigh< "Okay."

"Each an hour."

Yet in the first direct he told us that management came to HIM and asked him personally to make this specific game, not the other way around..

I have no idea why Nintendo has insisted on releasing this title this year. Makes no sense to have 2 first party kart racers competing for mindshare in the same holiday.

It's a Switch 2 exclusive. But for all we know this game could have started life on Switch 1 like MKW did.

We probably won't find out what a first party game built from the ground up on Switch 2 looks like until Mario or Smash.

Feel like this game should not have be released so close to Mario Kart World. Anyone who is bored of MKW is probably not going to plunk down $80 on this so soon after are they?

This man is a true content King! Gotdam, $70 is looking like a bargain for everything you actually get.

Makes me giddy as hell for what he's cooking up for the next Smash Bros!

I liked this Direct a lot more than the first one. Snappier and showed a bunch of new stuff, plus they confirmed Top Ride was back (I was worried it was cut and replaced with nothing after the first showing). Game looks great!

I still don't understand why it's such a big deal that we're getting two kart racers within 6 months. Nobody complains when Square-Enix releases two RPGs in the same amount of time, or Nintendo does two platformers, or whoever does two gritty third-person action games. There's some sort of weird stigma with certain genres (arcadey things like this?) or something, I dunno. The original Air Ride released a MONTH before Mario Kart: Double Dash, and three months after F-Zero GX. Maybe players just used to like racers more?

Whatever. I loved MKW and am getting this day one as well.

This is what Xbox should have done for titles like Keeper.

Air Ride will get somes sales but it's a small IP, so Nintendo is pushing Sakurai's name and the game as much as possible, it's what you gotta do to get the word out. Just get people thinking about it.

This game looks absolutely gigantic. It feels like it has as much content as a Smash Bros game, and I don't know how I feel about that.

I really didn't enjoy the base gameplay of the first Air Ride game, so there's a lot ahem riding on how this one ends up playing. I want to enjoy this game, cause Sakurai almost always knows what he's doing, especially when he has a clear vision. But it's just kind of hard to get excited when the core gameplay seems just okay. And I guess I'm also salty that he probably spent the last 5 years working on this instead of Smash.

I'm sure I'll buy the game. Sakurai games are few and far between, and there's really no other director out there like him. He's one of the only people out there truly developing FULL-ass games.

God I hope once he's done with this he gets his ass back in the office for a new Smash, though.

I'm sad that there's not more hype for this game, because I think I might be more excited for it than Metroid Prime 4.

This presentation only made me want the game more. Glad there's a substantial amount of unlockables, and that Samurai didn't spoil all the riders or the single-player campaign. The customization features are exactly the kind of shit that I'm a sucker for in games like this.

Also, lol @ him getting ahead of the DLC discourse. Incredible to have a game in the year of our lord 2025 where you can earn all the content by playing the game without having to pay real cash. Even Nintendo is moving away from that, sadly, and it would have been so easy to lock the hats and vehicle cosmetics behind microtransactions, so thank christ for small mercies.

People were using this to dunk on mario kart.
Something is wrong with the brains of a sizable portion of gamers. Like, it's not enough to be a fan of a game, you have to balance that positivity out by dragging something VERY SIMILAR down at the same time.

It's like some weird console-warring idiocy, except with games on the same system.

Nintendo completes and sits on games until they are ready, but Sakurai won't forget about the game until there's no time. They want to fulfill their debt to him, so they can both move on (to Smash)

The only thing wrong with this is that we're missing Adeleine. Seriously, how can one of the original gang members be missing from what seems to be the ultimate Kirby fan service game?

Of course we're getting an entire remake of the first game on top of the sequel. Not sure why I didn't just assume that'd happen given Sakurai is behind the wheel.

Sakurai made it clear that there were more characters that they were keeping secret until the game releases. No guarantee that Adeleine is one, of course, but she's the most obvious omission.

Clever noticing that Nintendo is pumping up their lower engagement software instead of sending it out to die.

This is the way.
