The next “Star Wars” anthology movie due in 2018 that recently lost director Josh Trank will be a Boba Fett origin story, confirming one of many rumors that have appeared online in the last several months, TheWrap has learned.

Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been closely involved in the creative process for the second anthology film, which is set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.

This is the movie Josh Trank was going to direct.

Also, last year there was a rumor about what the basis for this film would be (thread).

Briefly, but it was never able to get to the point where he donned the helmet and gear though if TCW wasn't cancelled it would have. I'm interested to know what the starting point would be for this "origin" story, whether it would cover the content in those unproduced episodes or during his early adult years.

That would be incredibly stupid, and fanboy elitist pandering of the highest order. People may not enjoy episode II but what's canon should stay canon, especially since several episodes expanded upon his character in TCW. What would have been the point of doing all that if some random dude was going to kill him off and steal his stuff?

We hardly got an origin story in Episode 2. Boba was still a child. "Origin story" probably means when he grows up and starts actually hunting bounties, which has the potential to be really cool and expand on the SW universe in a meaningful way. It's the perfect excuse to go to random planets and give us backstory on otherwise irrelevant characters.
