I figured this way we would let the voting go until March 31. Instead of he week we gave the March pick & get on a monthly schedule. But since no one has nominated anything we can do it halfway through March? I don't really care I'm just trying to keep it consistent.

Im nominating Wonder Boy III Monster Lair (the plattform/shooter). Need a reason to play it :)

Gotcha, in that case I'm nominating Midnight Resistance.

hey guys, i picked up Air Buster for 15 bucks,

This was Grand Theft Auto to me before there was a Grand Theft Auto. I took advantage of a glitch to make traffic appear in practice mode and used this as a vehicular mayhem simulator, complete with instant replay and invincible cows. $1.85 well spent!

loving all the cheap deals here, haha

Hard Drivin' is something alright, i forget exactly what but playing it in RGB is supposed to wreck some havoc on parts of a track

Playing it in RGB would make the parts of the road that are normally "transparent" instead look like the mesh dithering they really are, but beyond that I'm not sure what the harm would be.

Hey guys, I was wondering... Anything to know before buying one of those carts with built-in memory backup batteries (not even sure they were actual batteries, chips or whatever)? Are they supposed to still work fine, if the game has been taken care of/looks in good conditions? Or should one only look for carts with replaced caps/other repairs done? Or is it all stuff that just doesn't keep up anymore so nevermind?

Assume the battery is dead, and change it yourself. It's really easy, but you still need a soldering iron.

Yup. That's some old school get gud shit right there.
insane for an average gamer like me, that's for sure.

How many lives and continues does that game have?

it has only 2 continues stock.

there's a hidden cheat to increase it to 9 continues (much better) by going into options menu and pressing start when highlighting continues. (there's also a god mode but that kills the fun)

honestly, i passed the 1st 2 boards easy bc i looked on youtube and watched gameplay and copied it exactly. LOL (i know it's sorta defeating the challenge)
i tried to play the 3rd stage w/o looking at the tube video and gave up. (was shouting at the screen a bit heheh)

Revenge of Shinobi, compared to Target Earth is a vacation. i made it to the junkyard board on 2 lives. died once at the airplane boss... i ran out of shurikens the board prior (cargo doors) and didn't know how to beat the boss using hands/feet alone. and then i had to go to bed and turned it off =)

Only 2 continues? That's insane. Oh god, I'll probably take me months to beat it, lol.

How did you run out of shurikens?=O Also they are pretty much required for the 3rd stage boss.

Here's my run if you're interested.

Me + soldering + iron = Imagine final Tetsuo from Akira. Hope it explains. :D
On a serious note, is leaving the battery there going to cause any catastrophe, inside the cart?

You guys busy working on a no-death run for Shinobi? We still need 2 more nominees
& Woot! Title change.

Sega Genesis Club Guidelines

The nominated title should be readily available via standard
channels such as eBay, for a reasonable price (Maximum $30,
preferably less to give the majority of people a chance to join
in). The title should be a licensed Genesis/Megadrive title (No hacks,
homebrew, multicarts). Only exception is unlicensed, but readily available titles.
The title should be available in English, and if not, it should at the very least be
playable without knowledge of Japanese.

Due to the nature of the Club, excessively long or grind-heavy
games such as RPGs will be excluded.

Selection Process (see above for the month of March)
The first week of each month, the selection process for the following
month commences. The first five games suggested that have not
yet been played, and were not nominated the month before will be
added to the list and will be voted on. So be sure to come in early to
nominate your favorites!

On the 7th day of the month, or when we reach five nominations (whichever comes
first) the nominations are tallied in the following manner:
The list of nominees are checked for infringements of the above
guidelines, and any not meeting the requirements are removed.
The voting list will be shuffled for each member voting.
Voting will take place until the 20th day of the month, at which point the poll will
close and the votes will be tallied.
The winner will be announced as soon as the tally is counted so that members
will have time to pick up the winning game.

Maybe if you had POW and were able to do the sword slash? Or maybe a combo of the exploding and flame magics.

But there's plenty of shuriken refills available in the plane level, I think even a hidden one that will get you 50, so you should be able to have enough to fight the boss. It's actually one of the easier ones in the game once you learn the timing of the lasers.

But you would have to avoid touching the thing right next to the boss before being able to attack it with your sword, and the only way to touch it without taking hits is to use the magic shield. And the 2nd option is limited.

there's a way to jump in and not get hit (w/o magic shield), i was doing it last night but forgot the pattern and died once. there's space and time to jump in slash and jump out.

uggh, i tried Target Earth for an hour and made it to the 3rd board easy then got wiped out.

I played through that a couple of days ago, actually. Pretty fun, but definitely a flawed game - as much as I like the way the game relentlessly throws randomly-spawning enemies at you, they don't really go together very well with the weighty movement and slow aiming of your mech. Really feels like the game is just designed around soaking up hits and using your regenerating health to heal up afterwards; not the mark of a great action game.

I still liked it though. Game's got some absolutely badass setpieces (some of which are even cooler than its SNES sequel, I think), and the difficulty level is pretty nice. I'm really excited to play the PS4 remake someday.

It actually stays open for a long time. As long as you aim and time your jump carefully, it's a very safe fight.

Been there, done that(last year) and on hardest no less.

That's insane but that works, though far more risky.

For shurikens, yes. Slashing is more difficult!

How about ESWAT? That one shouldn't be too expensive. I have it on my SEGA MEGADRIVE
Perfect choice, I want to play that so bad.

Edit: If these gifs are too much for you guys and gals on mobile, let me know, I won't make them anymore and I'll just do screenshots.

Also, Midnight Resistance looks like a poor-mans Contra. Color me interested.

just a tip right in the beginning as soon as you start the game. use the jump ninja magic. there's a hidden ninja magic x2 on top above your head. (jump and spray some darts and you'll hit the hidden icon)

that'll give you 2 extra magics for future use.

Ok thanks. Should I conserve the Ninja Magic, or just use it when I feel like it?

Conserve the hell out of it!!!
agree

for myself, i think certain stages calls for abilities like enhanced jump for the first stage to access the hidden ninja 2x magic icon is only reachable w/ the enhanced jump. then i use one of the extra magics for lightening shield to keep the upgraded POW intact on the next stage. second stage there's a 1up hidden that's between spikes, i use it to get it w/o losing the POW. (try to keep the power up intact as it makes the boss fights so much quicker) same as for the army machine gun stage, i use lightening magic as there's an extra magic on that board to grab to replenish it.

so it's part strategy when to use it.

You have the option on mobile to turn off Gifs. If people dont like em they can do that. Keep em coming!

Voted for the obvious choice, Mercs is a superb game and a really rare feet for a console port at the time. Two games in one. That just didn't happen back in the day.

Midnight Resistance is a very poor man's Contra. I know there's one or two fans of it here but I really didn't like it. A better Contra clone would be the arcade-exclusive Bay Route (get it?).

But I won't tell you what for... It's a secret to everybody.
Haven't had a chance to get back to Shinobi, but I might have some time tomorrow after work... We'll see.

The game is decent, just the controls aren't the best.

I'm surprised at Mercs TBH.

I made it to the high rise in Revenge of Shinobi last night. I think I'll be able to grind through the rest of the game this weekend.

I only own one of those games so I may have to do some shopping for next month. I definitely don't mind...

Shouldn't we stick to North American releases?

Why are we putting classics up for a vote against lesser games? It's not fair to the other games. Hope the games other than Revenge and Mercs (original mode is better than the arcade game but you get both - Sega was killing it back then) will be part of future votes since there are some good games in there - they just have no chance when put up against Tier 1 genny classics like now.

PS - which mode of Mercs is going to be used here?

What's wrong with having Mercs? I don't think it's as known as Shinobi, Sonic, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, etc.
