^ Are you using an European Mega Drive Game Genie on a Genesis?
Do you know if the same would work for me too, with a Japanese MD2, in order to play Genesis games?

Nope! Pic was just me checking the cart fit properly! AFAIK you'd need something else to go play Genesis games on a Japanese MD :/.

Got to the last level of Strider this morning while waiting for my wife to get ready. Not bad for not playing the game in 20 years. Will probably try to beat it and Bloodlines later tonight.

Taking a break from shinobi and decided to put more time into Target Earth. Was surprised to see I actually got to stage 4. Probably could have gotten farther but had to stop. Stage 3 was fun.

It's Samurai Shodown Sunday! Always liked the NeoGeo fighting games so I figured I'd give this version a shot, especially since it was only $3.

I got to Godzilla before I got my ass handed to me in Shinobi today. He is brutal.
He's actually not, there's a simple pattern that makes it so you won't really get hit much at all by him. It involves a lot of well timed but easy to do reflexes of jumping over his tail whip and going under when he breathes his blast.

Not really. I just spent more time with it.
i can regularly make it to stage six now. what's your record in distance destroying the 1st board ship? mine is 51 miles. there's a trick to unlock all weapons by destroying the ship in a certain mile number. (i forgot what the distance was but i think i read that tip in EGM long ago)

Got some high-res scans of Revenge of Shinobi's print ads :)

The best ocean waves ^ ever done on 16-Bit!
that ad i used to stare at. i loved genesis' promos at launch pre sonic.

my second fav was TGX-16's legendary axe in the same style as this ad.

last time i fought him.... if i have POW it's helpful but if i don't i used suicide spam to kill him (or at least replenish my life)

I remember the Legendary Axe print ad with the last boss. I liked the TV commercial the best, it's really funny.

Also, the attack dogs from Revenge

Best looking German Shepherd Dogs in 16-bit, I wanted those guys on my side! Would have to wait for Shadow Dancer for anything like that.

Good call. I was trying to hit perfect double jumps and always go over his blasts but I will try dropping down and go from there. The double jump is starting to be second nature now

I think the general problem here with RoS doboru jampsu is that the timing needs to be way more precise than in the faster paced and more forgiving Shinobi III.

I'm pretty sure you can only double jump when you are at the highest peak of the jump which is dumb IMO as you should double jump anytime like other games.

Stage 4 is definitely a difficulty spike. That first segment is chaotic as hell; it can be hard to get a good handle on things there. And then the second area is a pain in the ass - at least you can kind of cheese it if you're careful.

The third level is a really cool level, conceptually. I love that you can get the enemies to destroy themselves by dipping too low into the atmosphere.

The double jumps have killed me more than the enemies. Doesn't help that I haven't gone through the game in awhile.

Get ready for a lot of frustration with level 7-1. There is a jump that you have to hit perfectly, even with the jumping magic. There are also annoying ones where ninja can knock you into the water right when you land.

Been playing The Terminator. It's only 4 levels, but it's pretty tough, especially since you only have 1 life. So I have been seeing this screen a lot.

i have yet to play Terminator. one life? that's looks hard. i want to play it now =)

when's the deadline for Revenge of Shinobi, is it last day of the month? do we take pics of the end screen?

for next months pick, (everyone who hasn't yet, should vote!) i'm excited to see the results =)

That game isn't even that hard, even on the hardest difficulty I didn't have too much problem with it, the last level may take some practice though. I did it in 11 minutes.

It's a good game and better than the NES and maybe even SNES versions but it's stupidly short.

I have old man reflexes and am playing it on a Android emulator with a touchscreen pad, so that might be adding to the challenge :b

You are right about it being short. Once I can clear a level, it is pretty easy to go back through quickly. The CD version was a lot better in this regard since it had 8 levels IIRC.

Oh god, I would never play games on that, lol.

Sega CD version is also 40+ minutes and it's hardest difficulty starts you with 1 life I think, though you can get more.

I loved the CD version back when I was in college. The surround sound and FMV were amazing at the time, especially under the "enhancement" of certain substances.

The phone emulator isn't my preferred way to play, but I have a long commute on the bus (sometimes an hour) and I generally don't like too many mobile games.

Yep, it's definitely one of the best Terminator games of all time.

Spend a few coins on an iPega Bluetooth controller. You'll be very, VERY, VERY glad you did.

that's prob the steal of the year! congrats

Thanks, yeah I agree, doubt I will ever find a gem like this again. Only downside is my expectation level for yard sale's is forever damaged haha.

Yeah, I've been looking for that game and the prices are absurdly high. Nice pickup.

Same here, GnG and Hyperstone Heist have been on my list since I started collecting. Never thought Id own either due to the inflated prices. ( one down one to go)

Been meaning to post this, got it a little while back at a yard sale for $2. I couldn't believe my luck, the cart looks like it has never been touched.

Genesis GnG, such a great game, came out here in the U.S. shortly after Genesis launched.

This was the first 16-bit game I bought because I bought GnG before I had the Genesis itself w/ Altered Beast.

TBH, i was shocked that Ghouls and Ghost came out for Genesis,
i really thought nintendo had a stranglehold on capcom.

though super ghouls n' ghost came out for the snes a year later...

that game was great.

Choumakaimura more like SLOWmakaimura amirite

I really like the SNES game tho. Apparently the Generations version removes the slowdown. I'm curious to check it out.

IIRC GnG, Forgotten Worlds and Strider were the only Capcom games allowed on the Genny ( I think) until they struck that deal to become official 3rd party. ( around the Street Fighter 2 era can't recall the year)

I don't think Capcom made it either, Sega got the license somehow and it says on the box "reprogrammed game". So Sega actually did the port themselves?

Haha same here, well it was my first game I purchased after I got my Genesis with Altered Beast. I got Alex Kidd as a gift and GnG was my first game that bought with my own hard earned money.

It is a very good port. What probably sweetened the deal was the fact that Sega ported the game themselves. Same applies to Forgotten Worlds and Strider.

Super Ghouls N' Ghosts in the best of the Ghouls/Ghosts N' Goblins series tho.

Don't forget Mercs and Chiki Chiki Boys. Sega ported them all themselves to side-step Nintendo's non-compete NES clause with third parties.

Sega's mail-in certificate (in the U.S.).for your choice (of a selection) of one additional free Genesis game, w/ proof of purchase of the Genesis system. This was the offer they had in fall 1990.

AbEDrWk.jpg

Okay what I'm looking for is the selection they had earlier in 1990 / late 1989, that included choice of Forgotten Worlds, Super Hang-On and a few others.

I thought I remembered these certificates came in the Genesis box, and maybe they did, but the one above was in an issue of GamePro magazine. So now I think these were maybe only in magazines.

haha, interesting Joe Montana screen since I recall it had a Madden like view from behind the QB.

I don't recall the mail in certificate when I got mine but I don't remember the year I got it. It was for my birthday in November but it might have been 1990, actually probably was so I missed it. :(

The first couple of Joe Montana games had a side view. By the time Sega got the NFL license (I think 1993) they went to the Madden style view.

I got my Genesis at launch, so there was no certificate in mine. I played a lot of Altered Beast while I saved up $60 to buy another game, which I think was either Thunder Force II or Super Thunder Blade. There were not many games to choose from when the system came out.

Oh didn't know that. Maybe that's why the game gear version was side view. I need to dig out my game gear to see if it still works, the screen is cracked. :(

They definitely came either in the box or maybe taped on the outside as a promotional flier of some kind? In any event, I got my Genesis for Christmas in 1989, and got the free game offer despite not reading any video game magazines at the time. And we somehow got two free games—Tommy Lasorda Baseball and Thunder Force II. I can't quite remember how that happened, though.

I like using old systems to play older games. Despite the title, these aren't the greatest versions of these games - especially Robotron, which is disappointing since it was the game I really wanted to play - but not bad overall for $1.49.

I have Game Pro issues 1-29 scanned and went through all of them. The one you posted is the only one I see. Issue 29 is December 1991.

Hmm, then that one ran for quite some time then. The one I posted was in GamePro issue 15 which is October 1990.

Nice, I saw when you posted this and thought I had to get around to picking it up as well. Happen to come across a cib in decent condition at a local mom n pop. Not as cheap, paid $5 for my copy.

Really surprised at how good the port looks. It really looks and plays great.
