So I'm suddenly getting an audio buzz from my Genesis. Been playing it for about three months now and never had this issue until the other night. It's lessened if I turn down the volume. I've jiggled some of the cords and when I mess with the power cable I can hear some fluctuations in the buzzing. What's the best way to truly isolate the issue? Is it possible I've blown a capacitor in there???

I made it to level 4 in E-Swat, but the slime keeps killing me and then I lose all my powerups and have to try and get through the level with just a pea shooter. Man, I suck at this game now.

Quoting myself because I think I know the issue. I'm using a third-party AC adaptor that outputs 600mA. The official cable outputs 1200mA. It's worked so far, but I don't know why I wasn't more careful. My fear is that it's not just the cable but that I've borked something in the console itself since the issue just came out of nowhere. I've ordered an official cable via eBay, so I should have a verdict soon.

I was using the same cable for my AV Famicom and that requires 850mA. Yikes. At least I can use the Genesis cable for both.

Where do you look for modern power adapters? Just look for something out now that has the same output and connector?

I meant the voltage regulator, this thing:

It converts the 9V from your power brick to 5V to be used by your console. But it's terribly inefficient, and heats up a lot. Replacing it would allow you to keep using your underpowered power supply, use less electricity, and stop heating your console for no reason.

Revenge of Shinobi remains one of my favorite Genesis games (indeed, one of my all-time favorites).

I was pleased I still remembered the maze at the end.


I'm actually kind of excited for E-swat...it's one of the few Genesis games I've never played (let alone finished).

What I get for reading and posting right before I go to sleep. Thanks for the info. Been looking for ways to calm down the heat of a few systems, and anything that helps them last longer is great.

It's actually Timothy Dalton. It's a good game - kinda reminds me of Shinobi/Rolling Thunder.

I don't recall Technocop being all that good. Notable for the violence but that's about it.

Not really. The hud takes up half the screen. You can't die in the driving sections. And the timer runs at 2x speed.

I had a preview build of this with all of the crazy Sega cameos intact. There was stuff from ESWAT, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, After Burner, and a bunch more. It's a huge bummer that all that stuff got cut.

Sub-Terrania is a fantastic must-have, but no, Technocop is terrible. I think most everybody agrees that the game is bad, this isn't a case where you see much of any defense for the game. The shocking-for-the-time gory violence is the only selling point the game has, but the gameplay is quite poor.

I beat the third boss on eswat today without cheesing rockets. Pretty tough level. The second red thing always messes up my run. I had only a few lives left to tackle the fourth level which was pretty tough too without the burner. Neat design though.
