That's a damn fine collection! Where did you get those cool Sega figures btw, I want Opa Opa too!

Not Genesis related, but here are really impossible to find pics of Thunder Blade X68000 box, manual and disks.

Also, found a video of it played with the CyberStick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sdxGD1KVbw

For two and a half decades it was the only home version of Thunder Blade that was a close resemblance of the coin-op arcade game, not counting MAME and other emulators -- That is until the 3DS version came along.

Keep in mind, this particular version of Thunder Blade came out in 1990 in Japan, and it ran on hardware released in 1987!

You have Sunsoft's Superman game? Awesome, I thought I was the only one who played it here.

I mean, I've got that data east cap game, I clearly can't say no to comic stuff as a fanboy, haha. Ill add Hulk and Tick one day when I sees em cheap!

Got this in the mail today :D

I pretty much gave up on ever getting an original, so this will have to do.

It's basically the regular game with some color fixes/changes.

That's cool, not a big fan of the green box though, but I get why they did it. That dude has made some cool color hacks, like his Bloodlines one.

woah! what is this, a new retro store?

Crazy the amount of time and effort you put into this. While I didn't read everything I enjoyed what I did read.
Thanks. As for reading it though, it's not meant to be read all at once, but some here and there, more likely.

What are you going to work on now? Game Gear?

I mention what I'm leaning towards working on next at the top of the last update... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=200366322&postcount=68

(No, not the Game Gear. I do have one and like 80 games, but I don't like it much so it's a low priority...)

That's pretty awesome looking. Any link to more details about it (such as comparison shots)?

Yeah same here, although it has grown on me a bit since I received it. Also a lot of the repro's I saw didn't have boxes so it was a nice plus.

I found this online but in all honesty I had very little knowledge of it before I purchased it. Happen to see it on my Instagram feed and sent a message to the guy.

Oh boy, I just discovered that Super Volleyball was ported to the Mega Drive too! I used to love this game in the arcade (well, it was more like a bar, really...), back in the days. Needless to say, insta-bought. I don't even know if it's a good port or not, I just couldn't contain the nostalgia-drive. :D

Finally beat that stage 3 boss. Not sure what my problem is, just can't seem to get the timing down. Anyway, I got the stage 4 boss and the power went out. I'll try again this weekend.

Not really feeling Eswat. The controls for the burner don't feel good to me and the first 2 levels are so boring to go through. Gonna give it some time off before taking another crack.

Gonna throw in Splatterhouse 2 because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment.

So there's no painless way of getting a Genesis hooked up via S-Video, is there?
Nope. Options are:

  1. Mod it yourself.
  2. Pay somebody to mod it for you.
  3. Buy a pre-modded unit off eBay.
  4. Get extremely lucky and find one of those rare Micomsoft doohickeys that convert the Genesis's RGB (specifically!) to S-Video on eBay.
I went with option 3, but wound up using RGB in the end anyway.

Whats wrong with Stage 2?
Other than me feeling nauseous
I don't think I have ever taken a hit and the level takes about 2 min to clear.

I'm being a little too harsh on it, but I think that once you jump behind the bars it becomes suuuper-rote. You creep along and enemies only ever appear at your height and they never get a chance to do anything. It's brief enough, but it seems too basic.

That's a fantastic collection! Well done!

Is your Adventures of Batman & Robin in a clamshell case?? I've been so tempted to buy the PAL version, just to avoid a paper box, lol.

I love the new clamshells being used by the latest repros - considered buying a MUSHA repro just because I love the clear case (but I have the original so couldn't convince myself to pull the trigger since why do I need two copies?).

Picked up a couple of Chinese bootleg Genesis/Mega Drive games. On the left is Water Margin, which is based on a classic Chinese novel that has been adapted into several movies, including The Storm Riders. The game on the right is Yang's Warrior Family, which uses the popular folk heroes that have appeared in many series and movies, such as The 14 Amazons and Saving General Yang.

thanks for the love, guys!

yeah, clamshell - i didn't want paper boxes for a while, but if i can find em in decent shape, id switch for em now!

He has a lot of cases for cardboard games.

yeah, by my count, it's Shining Force II, Centy (doesn't matter since its a repro anyway, haha), Vectorman 1/2, Batman & Robin...not sure what else, honestly? i mean, besides 32X stuff

I still want a legit Trouble Shooter 2.

ahh, totally forgot, that's an english language repro as well, if the case didn't make it obvious! man, i bought a bunch of those off a local guy on a deal years ago

I played and finished Splatterhouse 2 is one sitting recently. I had never played it before. I really don't think it's hard, you just have to remember enemy placement. The hardest part was the elevator in the final stage; lots of debris falling down and kind of hard to remember the patterns.

Actually i'd take a repro too lol. I just want to play it at this point.

I'd take a repro over the original. At least with the English patch I can understand what's happening!

I have an original Monster World IV, that I acquired some time ago, but it has never been in my console (or maybe once, to make sure it was working). I only played the translation in the Everdrive. I like having it on the shelf, but man is this game wasted on me!

I have very few Japanese games for this reason. I do have a bunch of original CD games, but I'm using the packaging to hold a burned copy with a translation, so that gets a pass in my mind. Cartridges though? That's a hard sell.

That's a bunch by my count :) Star Control and Ristar as well

Do you have Lightning Force? That can be brutal at times but the music kicks.

i'm on the listings everyday trying to get it for a decent price. i want to play it so bad.
i got Thunder force II cart only for 7.50 shipped decent label and part three for 30 bucks cart only. i'm trying to get a complete one for part 4 for under 40 bucks.

On Mania there are more enemies, enemies shoot faster and bosses sometimes have extra attacks not seen on Normal.
after i beat eswat i'm going to check out the harder difficulties for thunder force iii

Picked up a homebrew/repro of Kiss Shot, which was a release on the Japanese version of the Sega Channel. Pool games aren't the most exciting out there, but I usually dig them. This has great semi sleazy funky music.

Hey guys, a quick question about Everdrive carts.

Would you recommend to pick one up, if I only wanted to use it with homebrew games such as those cool color edits by Pyron, and similar hacks/variants? I'm not really interested in dumping hundreds of roms in it, as I'd keep playing with my original cartridges.

I have had very little time to play ESWAT. :( I recently put my retro stuff back into quasi storage as well while I figure out my TV/gaming setup. A sad little TV stand from many years ago isn't cutting it anymore, plus I need to get some stuff up higher to keep my daughter out of it. Actually the dog tail whipping around is worse with all the cords, lol!

As I mentioned earlier it's one of my favourite gaming purchases. While I prefer to use original cartridges as well (and they're right on my shelf), lessening the wear and tear on the cartridge slot is the main boon for me personally. Your mileage may vary but the convenience factor combined with less fiddling make it a fantastic purchase IMO.
