Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Appreciation Thread: Alien Storm > Golden Axe

Rolo to the Rescue.

Feel like suggesting one of the games I played as a kid, even knowing it won't win. (Maybe I'll suggest Asterix and the Great Rescue, Animaniacs, Aladdin or Goofy's Hysterical History Tour next!...)

Was looking at CIB auctions recently... not anymore.
i am happily cart-only for all cart based games, could never bother to pay out the ass for a box. I'm picky about disc based games though.

anyway, X2 is a lovely game and not too expensive if you just shop for the game. hope people consider it

Glad you picked X2 because the first one sucks.

I've heard it's not great too.

the second game seems beatable, I've made it to the final stage and I'm not great at video games. it's got nice looking colorful graphics, a cool story, and that famous intro sequence!

This is a great suggestion, and one I think i already nominated a few months ago. Underrated game!

Damn, Asterix and the great rescue is like the worst Asterix game ever, why would you want to nominate it :(
I need to get Animaniacs and Aladdin though, so that would be a good excuse.

When worlds collide! I feel kinda dirty playing SMB in my Genesis, but it does work really well!

Because I actually kind of like the game...

It's definitely got problems, which was evident even at the time, but hell, I had fun with it. Even beat the thing.

You did not, I just checked. It is added in tho.

Nice, know what I am voting for then :)

Anyways, I just got this:

I remember my last time playing Quackshot, back around 2010 or something, and I remember thinking the game had a cool premise, but was way to hard, slow and had some uninspiring level design (and cheap obstacles). However, I breezed through the game now, so guess i might have had some problems with latency or something last time?

Anyways, I still really like the premise of the game, the fact that you are travelling the world, searching for clues and so on.This could easily have been expanded on though, with more real puzzles and so on. Also the graphics are just beautiful. However, i still think the level design is kinda boring, the challenges are not that interesting and that the game overall is mediocre at best. Which is sad. Definitely feels like a style over substance-game.

I need to get into some Sega Genesis action. For some reason, I've played more Turbo Graphix and Neo Geo games than Genesis. I'm going to stick around this thread for some recommendations on games I've missed out on.

For some reason I thought your Genesis had a Windows sticker on it. It annoyed me more than it should have :/
LOL, oh i see my laptop is in the picture =)

Yeah pretty much this.

Why don't we save this, just incase we don't get 5 and it was already voted on in April.

so no old games? what game was it in the past that the voting was so close and came down to the last day? i wanted to play both of them.

Not sure, but I'll add in Flashback now because we still need a 5th game.

Edit: I'm moving today and my internet is off so I'm doing everything from my phone. I'm not sure when I'll have the voting up. Maybe next week?

Anyway this is what we have to think about:

1. X-men 2 Clone Wars
2. Road Rash 2
3. Bio Hazzard Battle
4. Rolo to the Rescue
5. Desert Strike

oh, if there's another nominee, put that ahead of flashback =)

Lots of carts on ebay for less than 20$.

it's expensive PAL? the Genesis version is like $10-$15

Oh, I didn't check for worldwide. I believe most of those won't ship internationally though.

Everyone in this thread really should have an everdrive. It even works as a flash cart for Sega CD saves. It's a no Brainer if you like genesis/MD

I have one, and as I only do CIB, it's the kind of game I'll play on it as I'm not interested in paying that much right now.

Good god, it's like 20 some bucks here in America!

I'm getting an everdrive for the N64, but I would like one for the other consoles too.

They are worth every penny. I too collect CIB but the convenience of the ED is unbeatable. Not to mention all the cool home brew and rom hacks.

The everdrive 64 is expecially exciting with the recently discovered ability to remove the filters!

There is Soleil/Crusader of Centy which is pretty mediocre imo. Beyond Oasis is a little different and more action-focused, but pretty cool, and Land Stalker is great.

Edit: Did we add Flashback as the fifth game? Was going to nominate Desert Strike, but might have to do that for next month!

I swapped them out and put Desert Strike in for ya :)

I wouldn't say mediocre. Fairly easy, and super cute, probably better for a younger audience. I know I loved it back in the day, but it's also one of the few games that I managed to finish, and it didn't really make me sweat.

Not worth the asked price though.

Nice! Why dont we make adopt the same rule as in the Nes/Famicom Game Club where every game needs one month cool down before it can be nominated again? Then David can nominate Flashback again next time.

I played it as an adult, so that might be why I found it pretty mediocre. I also played it in german, so didnt understand that much of the story, but the core gameplay, i found to be below games like Soul Blazer, and well below stuff like Illusion of Time/Gaia and Link to the Past. It looked great for sure though :)

There is a one month cool down already, i just didn't realize flashback was nominated so recently. New job been keeping me busy =)

LTTP progress: i finally got to final mission on Alien Storm using the girl. I keep running out of energy with the flame thrower and lose credits over that. i'm going to try and use the running dive attack more.

Sounds kind of like Twisted Tales of Spike McFang on the SNES, which I enjoyed.

I don't know about Landstalker, since I know that game, and I know it uses a 3/4th perspective. Kind of weird for an action oriented game.

Maybe Sword of Vermilion?

Not quite like Zelda since you move around in first person and then it switches to a side view action mode when you fight enemies.
