My favorite version of that game.

Played about half an hour of Quack Shot and quite enjoyed it for what it was. Seems like a decent light platformer for the system :) When I paused the game I accidentally held the down button at the same time resulting in the Everdrive menu popping up. Unfortunately, this froze the game (typically doesn't happen). A bit of a pain, but not the end of the world.

I also finally started Shining Force; it looks fantastic in RGB!

That's way too much. That game is going for insane prices now.

So, any other real wrestlers in this one?

All of the wrestlers are based on real guys like Stan Hansen and Abdullah the Butcher but none of their real names are used in the game.

I didn't know Power Instinct was on Mega Drive. Is it any good? I really liked Groove On Fight.

Unlike the SNES port, Power Instinct is a Japanese exclusive, on the Mega Drive.
Visually, it doesn't look as good as it does on the Super Famicom (it's still pretty decent, though, and it's even closer to the arcade in some peculiar details, such as the GUI and the little dudes always on screen), but it plays just as well:

Awesome! Love seeing all these old magazine articles and ads.

Me too, that's why I post them!

Hey guys, notice that in the ACE article and the EGM article, they mention Spectrum Holobyte had shown Falcon for Genesis at that CES

Another game that did not get released -- And not to be confused with this game for Master System:

(VG&CE - August 1989) - I bought that issue at a pharmacy newsstand in Niles Illinois, and read the following article ...in sheer amazement, while sitting in the back seat of a car on trip to Clear Lake Iowa, with no air conditioning.

AmyS, your scan are always so amazing. Thanks for posting them. Pardon me if this has been asked before, but what's the story there? Did you buy all these back in the day and keep them all this time? Are you on a collecting spree? Are you posting these scans online anywhere in sortable order?

It's about time someone ask this, we want answers!!!

Well, that last one: "Genesis - Sega's New Beginning" I had bought a copy of the VG&CE issue last year. The others from Mega Play issue 2, I got that this year. But I would say that 70+ percent of the scans I post are from downloaded scans from Retromags.com. The rest are from looking through scan uploads posted on Internet Archive and elsewhere.

I don't post anything in any particular order at all - really only what I remember reading back in the day and I have a pretty good memory. I post articles, previews, reviews, rumors, screenshots and commentary that were personally interesting to me, that I remember, and that I want to post here to share. It's mostly random, and based on what I can find. That's really it. Hope that ends the mystery, lol!

Here is a post I made in the Master System appreciation thread with the VG&CE review of the SMS Light Phaser game Rambo III, a game that was like Operation Wolf (and not a SMS port of the Genesis game).

I don't believe a scan of VG&CE's review of SMS Rambo III has ever been posted before.

The way that VG&CE pages typically start a review with one paragraph at the bottom left of a page, made a perfect fit for that intro gif :)

Question for fans here: Does anyone know anything about the game Whip Rush? I bought it at a random market a few months ago and yet to fire it up, it just struck me as a weird find considering it's a US/JAP game and I found it in Australia. And I'd never heard of it before.

Hardly a "grail" find, but an interesting one. I did, however, buy one of my grail games in the same lot, a copy of Battle Squadron. Guess the guy who owned the stall loved his shmups.

I really loved the stage 1 music in Whip Rush - Sky City

Some 1990 EGM & Mega Play previews, a fact-file and Mega Play's review.

BTW, Vic Tokai developed Whip Rush.

Holy cow, that's more information than I could've asked for! Now I just need to work out how to get it going in my PAL MD, don't think I've ever tried playing an import game in it before. Know enough to find info online, but it'll take some tinkering.

I guess it's not that rare then, just rare in Australia given it never saw a PAL/EU release. I guess that's still kind of cool.

I could have also posted EGM's Review Crew score, but they rated Whip Rush somewhat poorly, and it was kinda discouraging to read :)

Edit: I remember looking at the Fact-File layouts between Whip Rush on Genesis, Psychosis on TG-16 and Curse on Mega Drive (never came out in NA) and seeing similarities in the BG graphics.

Maybe it was just my own...

Shmup-GAF, opinions on Vapor Trail's port for the MD/Genesis? Not on my 'most wanted' list, but I watched a couple of videos, recently, and it seems to play in quite an interesting way, with some proper classic MD-hype rocking soundtrack.

Speaking of shooters... Man, I hate Curse. In my opinion, the absolute worst I've ever played on the Mega Drive - slow, choppy, visually appalling... - and the only one game I actually ended up selling for the system.

I think that's why Curse never actually got released for Genesis in the U.S.

http://segaretro.org/Curse

Curse (カース) is a 1989 Sega Mega Drive shoot-'em-up, among the first on the system, by Micronet released exclusively in Japan. You play as a ship that has to save an alien planet from destruction caused by a neighboring planet that had mysteriously changed from friend to enemy over the course of centuries.

Curse was set to be released in North America by INTV Corporation, which had broken away from Mattel following the North American video game crash, and held the rights to the earlier Intellivision console. The game was one of the first non-Intellivision projects to be undertaken by the company (NES and Game Boy projects were also in development) and was announced in 1990, but despite being advertised, dated (for June 1990 and even reviewed, the North American version did not materialise.

EGM #12 - July 1990.

Certainly did not deserve those scores, it's terrible.

Curse is total crap. Everything is bad except the box art.

Also for some reason it's 30 fps, lol. It's shocking how bad that feels in a Genesis STG.

Has anyone completed Quackshot? I haven't played it at all, I've been to busy with moving. Next months game is looking like it will be something I haven't played yet.

I beat it years ago, but haven't gotten around to playing it for the thread just yet. Did put it into the Genesis and fired it up to watch the attract mode, but wound up playing Super Mario 64 for a while instead.

My good friend Yoshi (the poster here, not the dinosaur) wrote in his GOT4G post about a game called Soleil/Crusader of Centy that I've never heard of. Anyone here play it? Would you also recommend it? I'm always looking for Zelda-likes. Thanks all!
