Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus |OT| Life Returns to Vita

the mask would be ridiculous if she had a physical reason to wear it, but a mental one paves the way for character growth and development

i'm probably putting more thought into this than the devs
Eh, Hibari and Yagyu have quite a bit of thought put into them.

I was looking at the wiki and apparently Ryobi is supposed to be "smaller" than Mirai. Apparently whoever made the models was not informed of this.

kinda wish murakumo was actually really ugly under that mask. Not like im into that kind of thing, but would be pretty neat lol.

Or some kind of burn or scar.

Yeah her whiny personality is rather ill-fitting as-is. As I mentioned before I'm a bit disappointed the eyepatches are basically fake
Yagyu's explanation is particularly bad. "It's made with a ribbon to remind me of her" but..why an eyepatch? It was a ribbon. You can just wear it as a ribbon
. Missing "pieces" isn't really my thing, but Baiken's character is very interesting in Guilty Gear without looking (IMO) ugly for it either. Also I mean, they're shinobi, a couple of missing eyes wouldn't seem out of the ordinary.

So does Bon Apetit have a story? And do we know when we're getting the Daidoji and Rin DLC? I neeeeed them =(

It can be a bit confusing, yeah.

Basically, the 3DS has had three games released in Japan:

- Senran Kagura
- Senran Kagura Burst
- Senran Kagura 2

Senran Kagura Burst is less of a sequel, though, and more of an expanded remake, containing the entirety of Senran Kagura but doubling the length of the game by adding a whole new campaign. That's the one we released.

Senran Kagura 2 takes place IMMEDIATELY after the events of Senran Kagura Burst.

Then there are the Vita games:

- Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus
- Senran Kagura Estival Versus

These games take place even farther in the future -- so timeline-wise, Shinovi Versus takes place well after the events of Senran Kagura 2, and sort of begins a new story altogether.

The idea, I believe, is to have the 3DS games tell one complete story arc, and the Vita games tell another. You can think of them kind of like two series running concurrently... though Shinovi Versus does directly reference the events of Senran Kagura Burst (while ignoring the events of Senran Kagura 2, since SK2 didn't exist yet when Shinovi Versus was being developed).

Yes, Shinovi Versus is definitively compatible with PSTV.

Well that makes sense. Thanks, Tom!

So does Bon Apetit have a story?

It does, though it's absolutely ludicrous in every way, and the characters even break the fourth wall to directly state that it is NOT canonical. ;)

And do we know when we're getting the Daidoji and Rin DLC? I neeeeed them =(

There's so much DLC for Shinovi Versus, we'll be adding some to PSN every single Tuesday for what seems like forever. I don't know for sure when Rin and Daidoji will be among them, but I can't imagine we'd keep you guys hanging for tooooo long. ;)

lol, Murasaki's backstory is so dumb
"Hebijo is an elite school, you can't get in with your parents' connections!" ignoring the fact that Hebijo accepts literally everyone

Neptunia humor in my Senran Kagura? I'm in

I think I'll get a Playstation TV for this game. Unless the Vita gets a crazy good Black Friday deal. We'll see.

Eagerly awaiting DLC! And of course Dekamori.

I completely glossed over that one
and am now going to pretend they meant get into the elite class so that I might retain my sanity.

I think for Yagyu
it was to serve as a constant reminder. She wouldn't constantly notice a ribbon in her hair, but she would constantly notice that she can't see out of one eye.

The VN sections are fun but inconsistent. It'd be neat if there were a way to view just them, and to read it full page by full page. I'm so very tired of mashing X.

Finding the game significantly slower and actually more difficult when not in Frantic mode, it seems kinda broken. I'll consistently get A or B and almost never die in Frantic but very consistently get Ds if I just transform normally. A big part of why is I can often KO someone before they can even transform if I'm in Frantic mode and have a large stock of ninpo.

This game specifically plays great on it. Lost most of my weekend playing it with a DS3. Should probably try a DS4 too.

I get D for the most part and sometimes other grades but I rarely play in Frantic. Not really worried about the ratings though.

I assumed you get more XP/money/alignment points for higher grades. Plus it goes faster in frantic, especially the trash mobs (which I generally do not find fun to fight). Generally if I lose it's because I'm getting juggled like mad (I need to use that d pad down move more I guess) and more defense hasn't really saved me from that anyway.

Not really sure how the grading system works, seems to mostly be time and # of hits taken? Getting ludicrously high hit combos didn't seem to matter much.

I finally finished up the Hanzo line at 17 or so hours. I suppose it's time to move on to Gessen. I want to be as far away from Hibari as possible now.

I really wanna get this but I scared to blind buy after sword art online:/

What's this got to do with Sword Art Online? Localization is great, gameplay has been received quite well. I think Burst was pretty awful but am really loving this one. Though thinking back I think Burst's biggest problem is focusing on the completely mindless normal enemy swarms where those immediately take a backseat in this one, plus the combat and movement is a lot more satisfying in this one in general.

I'm talking about blind buying and not liking, especially since physical copies are limited.

Ah. I do that pretty rarely, but this one was only $10 more and already had great impressions due to being out in japan ages ago. It's a nice but not particularly spectacular collector's edition, it'd take more than an art book for me to buy without good reviews or prior experience with the series. Figures though...

The OST is surprisingly good, and it helps it's a nice 39 tracks, which is huge in comparison to some other CDs I get with LEs or pre-orders. For the $10 extra, I'd say it was completely worth it.

Completely forgot it had an OST. I actually haven't opened either of the CE goodies yet.

I am nowhere close to platinuming this game. I'm okay with that, oddly enough.

How hard is it to plat? I wasn't even going to look at trophies until finishing story + side story stuff. I hoped that was pretty much it + collecting everything in the store and whatever. Hoping max level isn't required

The art book and cover was enough for me. Haven't opened the OST yet. Plan to after I listened to the game on my headphones last night for the first time.

Looking at the list, it doesn't seem too bad. More of just grinding all the different school & character missions, then using the money to buy everything in the store, plus hoping ya get lucky with the lottery.

1,000 clothing strip should be no problem. I'm only on my 2nd school w/ 6 character missions done & haven't even started the story for the 2nd school yet & I'm around 500.

The lottery is pretty lame. By the last 5 items or so it seems to very clearly be trying to push you to just buying the $1 lottery tokens. I have 3 left and I'll probably just wait until I have far too much money and just save, spend max and re-save once I get one. 10k currently gets me an 11% chance

I just threw in 100 zeni at a time and got everything. I only did one characters full side quest chain and used up almost all the money from that. Just a lot of hitting X. It's like gifts from dangan ronpa.

Oh yeah, it's rather annoying when you're down to single digits, though if you got the patience, it's doable. I got them all before even finishing the first school's story. All about patience & sticking with 100z.

Now if I can tear myself away from Project Diva f, I need to get back to doing more character missions.

Platinum is pretty easy, if you complete every mission you'll be done with almost all of them. Grinding max yin/yang/flash and 10k kills takes a bit but isn't too bad.

And I think lottery items aren't necessary for the shop trophy. In any case you'll never be strapped for zeni (I had 800k by the time I purchased my last item) and it's just about mashing X for an hour to bet 100z until you get lucky enough to get everything.

No way, I'm really glad it shares trophies. As much fun as it was to get a few, the 7777 trophy really made me sweat. Being on count 5000+, turning around and seeing only two spawned enemies over 100 feet away is some horror movie stuff.

1) Load up the first Hibari mission or go into the tutorial as Hibari.
2) Butt stomp over and over.
3) Trophy!

There IS a trophy for combos? You can do it with yagyu's weak attack with one enemy, I got5000 for kicks, figured there aren't any trophies after that

There's a trophy for 7777 hits, yeah.

I did the Hibari method but I wouldn't suggest it. It is the easiest way, but if you do the 4-2 Hanzo mission instead you can work on a bunch of trophies at once: 7777 hits, yin/yang/flash leveling and 10k kills.

I just used Ikaruga and kept comboing into the air & stuff on 4-1. Didn't even transform, though I assume that would've helped.

Gah. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm thinking of ordering this on Friday, but I'm a bit pissed that Europe didn't get a physical copy. I would love to take part in some of the DLC, but can't since my main account is EU.
And I only get digital, when that's the only way to get a game. Man VIta/PSTV needs to have multiple accounts like PS3 and PS4.

Wait what, really? Didn't plan on getting one, but multiple accounts is a pretty big deal to me.

It doesn't. Just like with the regular Vita, you need to reset your system to factory default (and in this case wipe the internal storage) in order to switch accounts.

Well...that was a pretty cruel. ;(

On a brighter note: Yozakura quickly ascends to the top of my favourite shinobi list. Yumi would be there too, but her playstyle just doesn't fancy me much. Overall I think the new characters are pretty great, could do without Minori though and still have to go through Hebijo's story, so that may change in time.

The lottery isn't that bad. Just make an extra save and watch TV while spaming 100z bids until you get everything.

Or, wait and spam 9,999k bids. I had enough money to finish the lottery and buy out the whole store after finishing just one school. Now, I'm sitting on hundreds of thousands of zeni as I finish the other schools and have literally nothing to do with it.

Even so, even at 1%, you should statistically get it with less than 10k zeni spent, which takes maybe 30 minutes.

Minori is actually one of my favorites, as far as opening and closing animations go. Decisive bite on the lollipop and forgetting her opening line. I can definitely see why people wouldn't like her though, but she and Katsuragi are the only ones I really find funny.

Don't care about the money, just tired of mashing x

Do it later? At max bid, it should take around 30 rolls for you to finish.

I've grinded longer for single items in JRPGs than the totality of the Shinovi Versus lottery. That's not to excuse it (I hate grinding) but, it's super forgiving for an RNG system.
