Serious Square Enix Pre-E3 discussion

Ok here's the information from the past day or two that we know:

- New FFXII pic from Jump, Ashe kissing her husband at the royal wedding, so the same game is still in the works apparently. Hope we hear something solid at E3.

- Dirge of Cerberus is said to be revealed in Jump as a "Gun Action RPG", with Cait Sith and the mysterious girl seen in the trailer as important characters. No scans or pics to verify this yet, but the sources are reliable.

- FFVIIAC is in post-production now, but the voice casting for KH2 and AC for the English track isn't completed yet. The trailers at E3 should be in english though, since they're actually recording that as well.

- FFVIIAC might be getting a US and Japan release at the same time in Sept, but that would depend if they can finish up the voices by then. It's just a short movie with no game behind it so that's clearly possible.

how can you have a serious discussion about a company whose name can be abbrevaited to SQUENIX.

I mean really, SQUENIX!

seriously, I can't believe Square is letting FFXII slip for so long.

I honestly don't think they're willfully letting it slip. Hopefully when it's all over, we can get an insider's look at what happened in some way. Too bad Japanese companies don't publish post-motems of their games, because if they released one on FFXII I would so buy it.

I was about to make an on-topic comment, before I saw Gattsu's avatar and wondered where the hell that footage is from.

- FFXII playable, new screens, movies and release date
- same for Dirge of Cerberus
- new movie for code age commanders and grandia 3
- Square Enix announce Ps3, DS and Revolution project

Sounds about right. Plus a mid-E3 defection to Mistwalker from Matsuno. :D

Not true, entirely. Acquire actually published (as a book) a post-mortem on the development of Way of the Samurai two years ago. Rather eye-opening too from what I hear.

But it is true that the largest Japanese developers do not publisher post-mortems of any kind.

don't forget PSP
Sony may "strongly request" SE to show something about FF7 CC

Whoa really? That's pretty awesome. Maybe if Matsuno leaves Square Enix for Mistwalker (or his own studio) after FFXII, he can publish one on "My final fantasy"! :D

Remember the Document of MGS2? That was rather nice.

But MGS2 was a complete success though. There were no delays and they were proud to explain how it was all made. FFXII obviously has development and/or management problems which we'll most likely never hear about in detail. :(

hehehe

Ok, I translate my "duckrowlned" serious concerns here.

I´m afraid Matsuno found the big "no" from Square Enix directives, too afraid to be assaulted for hordes of fans angry with the changes.

I mean, I know it´s not a shared opionion, but I found FF XII very interesting and full of potential. Changin it´s not bad, I thought it would be good for the saga and japanese RPG in general.

I don´t know, hope to find some clue at E3.

And don't forget Dragon Quest VIII. That'll be interesting to see, especially if they won't show any new footage from FFXII.

Having played it hours and hours doesn´t help to make me excited about it :( (but it´s a great game, look for it)

If Matsuno does jump ship, hopefully he finds a way to take Ogre Battle with him.

If Matsuno leaves it would be a disaster for Square Enix, it´s such a talented man... would suck because that would mean waiting for a lot of time until it´s next game...

duck and I are on top of Code Age, which will be shown in video form at e3. I'm going to make an attempt to be somewhat comprehensive here:

trailer: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/codeage/

http://square-haven.com/games/ps2/codeagecom/media/art-050511/logo.jpg

The universe appears to handle the question of the meaning of life in the context of evolution. What's up with the sun/moon/star in the logo?

- Code Age Commanders is a ps2 action rpg that looks almost exactly like FFCC visually with art by Yusuke Naora (FFX, U:SaGa)
- Code Age Archives is anime/manga
- Code Age Brawls is a cellphone 3d fighting game

art2.jpg

Some of the art reminds me of Dragon Quarter (The dude in the top left reminds me of Ashley Riot :lol):

Code Age art from the official website: http://square-haven.com/gallery.cgi?dir=/games/ps2/codeagecom/media/art-050511

Naora owns. I actually don't mind the in-game versions by what's-his-name as much as I thought I would though. :)

SquareEnix art + SquareEnix technology + PS3 + demo = ???

I'd like the answer to that question at E3, please :)

I'm not completely up to speed on anything and everything E3 this year, but will Square-Enix have a conference before/during the convention where we will then get solid information (hopefully) on most of their titles?

The stance Square Enix takes on the new networking plan in relation to Revolution is the most intriguing. "What increased our interest further," states Wada regarding the networking plan, "is that the next step is already being prepared for Revolution." Nintendo's networking plan is, according to Wada, "not just a portable, not just a console -- it's exactly what we wanted in that it's the birth of a completely new platform."

Nice, judging from Wada's enthusiasm, it seems Nintendo is at the very least trying to do something different and innovative.

My guess is a common Revolution-DS platform whereby users can play with one another regardless of system, in one way or another. This isn't a startlingly unique idea - MS will likely do the same between X360 and PC, Sony between PS3/PSP/PC, but given Square's like of DS, they might be more drawn to Nintendo's "platform"..

Wada finishes off on the note of support from Square Enix: "From here on, we'll have to challenge ourselves with content in response to what Nintendo offers. We would like to give strong support."

:)

So FF XII gor REV then? ;)

Wow, that sounds pretty enthusiastic.

Funny that a week ago the very idea of Square Enix Revolution support was basically laughed at. Now it seems basically inevitable.

It'd be amazing to see a numbered FF on Rev, even if not exclusively. (although i'm sure it'd be XIII onwards)

Anyway, at the very least it seems relations between the two companies are fully "normalised" now, if there was any doubt before.

Maybe we'll see DQ Online across PC/PS3/Rev? I don't see much point for SE porting their stand alone PS3 games over to Rev, they didn't bother porting PS2 games to GC after all. I think Rev's most likely to get inter-company collaberations, boutique products based around it's interfaces and cross platform MMORPGS from Square Enix.

:)
Final Fantasy XI already did the PS2-PC crossplatform support. Given Square Enix's new polymorphism/crossmedia focus, a common platform between DS/Revolution is exactly what they are looking for (like Wada said).

And yeah, one of the revolutions of the next-gen will be crossplatform online gaming. If you can port offline games between systems, then the added value of one connected online experience would be hugely beneficial. This is also why I don't think Squenix will go anywhere near Xbox for the time being, given that it has an enclosed online system (Live) that is in no way going to support online access from other platforms. If Nintendo is the first to bridge that gap (with Square Enix onboard for content publication) then it's all the better.

No offence, but I think these games are teh suck.

I want FF6 and the FFDS they are porting

argh, I told you to stop the n00b shit last time. Just before I add you to my ignore list please tell why these games suck cause it's pretty obvious that you have played em. -_-

Ok I just hooked Rahul up with tons of pics from the E3 Code Age trailer, hopefully he'll put them up soon. I encoded the trailer too but the quality is pretty shitty. I don't really feel like encoding it again since I'm not all that hot for Code Age (looks like Square Enix's .hack attempt) but if anyone wants it, its 40meg (xvid/mp3 on avi) and 5:29mins long. So just tell me where I can upload it if you want to host it if you're interested, otherwise it's going to the recycle bin tomorrow. :)

Edit: Here are some hi-res clearer pics from Watch Impress
