SeriouslyThis is the Street Fighter cycle, everyone thinks the previous game was the best. People shit on 4 for the longest time and said 3 was more hype and skillful, and before that was SF2 > SF3.
Looking forward to people saying how much more fun they had with 5 when SF6 comes out.
Nah, they don't really need everyone from SFII Turbo. We could honestly do without E. Honda & Blanka. Plus we really need to move past SFIII:3S in the timeline, & SFV is opening the door to that possibility for SFVI.It also has the greatest SF character ever that is SORELY missing from SFV, Cody.
In all seriousness, visuals is about the only department SFV bests IV. Literally everything else is better in the 2009 game, including tournament play. Even in the darkest days of vanilla SFIV, with Sagat and Akuma ruling the game, it was still more enjoyable to spectate than SFV. Watch SFVI be a reboot starring with the SF2 Turbo cast again and be successful. Capcom should never stray away from that core roster.
I am starting to think Sony cursing Capcom or something. Literally every-time they put money in a SF game, it flops. Capcom hasn't had any luck since UMVC3 6 years ago.
SFIV was pretty huge from jump street. Casuals, streaming, etc.Ya, it always takes a bit for a new SF to hit it's stride.
I'd say that SFIII stripped away too much of the SFII crew. SFV in particular had half of its base roster consisting of World Warriors. SFII representation isn't the problem with SFV, it has just the right amount in terms of the SFII-to-Everything-Else ratio. And honestly, if the rumors are true about Sagat coming in Season 3, Capcom could stop there in terms of SFII characters (maybe bring in Fei Long, but that's it).SF3 and V are reasons why they should not stray away from that core. SFIV did it right, started with the SF2, and then added fan favorites from 3 and Alpha within the year.

You could make an argument for SFIII, but it wasn't the #1 reason (New Generation was marketed pretty poorly). But you're 100% right about SFV.the roster had nothing to do why those games weren't as popular as their predecessors.
I kinda feel the same way. I was on-&-off SFIV throughout its iterations (came in for Vanilla, left, came back for Super, left, came back for AE, left through AE 2012, came back for Ultra). It's a solid game, don't get me wrong, but I guess it never jelled with me like SFII, SFIII, & SFV do. And even then, I didn't go to tournaments as often as I did in my very young years until MvC3 came along & pulled me back in (remember, MvC1 was my first video game & what got me into both comics, video games, & the FGC).I Can understand liking 2, 3 or alpha whatever more but i can't get behind sfiv, sfiv was such ca drag for me after like, the first year or so it turned me from an SF diehard to a Blazblue fan.
SFV brought me back

SFV is even worse than cross Tekken
This is a load of hyperbole IMO. SFV blows xT completely out of the water.
At least SFV never had garbage like gems or a comeback mechanic that was so useless that no one ever used it.
Yeah, but sf3 is more fun than sf4, and alpha 3 is more fun than sf3, and st is more fun than alpha 2.
Oh, and sf5 will be more fun than sf6.
the mechanics are still as good as everPeople are hating on SFV a lot lately. I remember how a ton of people were saying the game play/mechanics were amazing. After season two, a lot of people are flipping on that. I guess the changes made were damaging.
