The hideous design is one of the reasons why I skipped PS5 and switched to PC this gen

PS2 and PS4 were the best launch designs

PS One, PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, PS4 Pro/Slim were all great

Somewhere in the world there's a simple looking building that looks exactly like a PS6.

Sneak peek of the PS6 then?

We don't need a PS6. Just make and optimize games for the PS5. There have barely been any games this generation which are PS5-only. (Same goes for XSX).

Most of the banger games this generation are AA or indie games.....which most are not top tier graphically.

The PS5 design was fine. It would be better if it could stand horizontally without a stand, but at least they always gave you that stand, even if it's been reduced to small plastic feet. The important thing is thermal design. The launch PS5 and PS5 Pro I've owned have always been whisper quiet. The launch PS5 disc drive was a bit noisy at times but the detachable one for the Pro is pretty quiet.

I wanna say that the launch PS4 had the best design but it felt and looked super cheap at the same time. Really cheap feeling/looking materials. The Launch PS3 on the other hand felt like they used premium materials, even though I liked the design less.

I always thought the original PS2 design was so sharp and beautiful and conveyed the message they were going for, it was Sony at their peak in terms of consumer product design. The PS3 Slim is also very good. PS5 is insanely ugly but the Slim and Pro are much nicer.

PS6 will likely have a similar TDP as the 5, so they should easily be able to make something the size of the PS5 Slim that's as quiet. Using a smaller node should also help.

Somehow I feel like the PS6 is not years away but coming much sooner than expected... November 2026? Why else are there so many leaks about the PS6 processor, the handheld, the disc drive, the case ...
2027 most likely. Consoles take years of testing and design work. They basically start R&D on the next one as soon as the previous one is launched. So rumors about PS6 now simply means it's deep into development, which makes sense if they're targeting 2027 or perhaps 2028. With the way the sales curve is slowing, 2027 may make more sense, but they'd need games. Pro isn't doing as well as PS4 Pro, so there is that to consider as well. Perhaps the rumored/leaked handheld is a native PS5-gen device and that could target 2026, and the next-gen PS6 is 2028 🤷‍♂️

Good news imo. That being said there is a bit of irony here no? The PS5's larger design was the result of them hoping to save money on a higher-clocked smaller chip that required more cooling...and then them cheaping out on cooling by using a large ass basic heatsink...and this decision then resulted in higher storage and transportation costs.

Xbox Series X was just a superior design in this regard.

Good, hope it's just a small black box with some blue lights on it. :messenger_beaming: PS2 fat is my favorite Sony console.

Nothing beats the ps1 in terms of unique, cool, and futuristic design. It was a radical departure from anything else, while also being sleek and sexy. It sit on your tv stand or above your vcr/dvd player and didn't take up much room.

Everything about it. The Large Power and open buttons were simple (ps5 launch model, I sometimes forget which button is the disk eject and which is power)
It also looked adult focused. The n64 looked like a child's toy (although Sega Genesis and TG16 were doing this before the PlayStation. Sony brought the feel from Teenage focused to Adult, right at the time I about 19 or so when it launched).

The back of the box, had so many cool games (depending on year and model), this one pictured has Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Einhander, Saga Frontier 2, Resident Evil 2, Tomb Raider 2, Mega Man Legends, Jet moto 2, Tekken 3, Crash2, Hot Shots golf, and all the 989 sports games, when sony made more than just mlb. )

The ps1 took the prize with games (every genre , and had the most rpgs ever, It was Squaresoft golden era!)

Ps2 was bland in comparison. It was also lacking in terms of hardware compared to the competition. It did have a DVD player though, and the games were numerous.
PS3 was a great console. The design was unique but I didn't really like it until the slim came out, as the og was too big.
PS4 is too loud, although i didn't mind the og eraser design. It wasn't my favorite.
PS5 is too big and weird.

I love the PS2 design, both the fat and slim.

Fat for being the rugged looking, classic.

Slim for being the small yet packs a punch.

I currently have 1 Fat and 3 Slims.

PS2 wins hands down.

Starting with that box:

Nothing written, nothing to promote. Just one logo was enough.

You opened it up in 2000 and this is what you got:

30th-anniversary-ps2-timeline-image-block-02-en-11oct24

Not over engineered like the PS3 but looked much more futuristic than the PSOne.

I also had no idea what a USB port was until i got one of these lol. The logo turning with the console was a nice touch, the fact you could put it vertical and horizontal was also great (and something all of them do since then).

It was the perfect product for the year 2000.
