As someone who likes to dump on Sony in his free time, I gotta admit I like everything I'm reading about the PS6 as of late. Well besides the separate disc drive maybe.

I can't believe the PS1 is not the clear winner in this poll. It's the quintessential industrial design, the absolute GOAT. All the other designs are derivative of some stupid design trend at the time. The PS1 on the other hand is a true novelty, a creatio ex nihilo, the child of divine inspiration. You know I'm right and you should feel ashamed for your vote and change it.

Still love the PS1 design and Sony's late 90s aesthetic in general

Love the concrete colour of it and the chunkiness. I never owned one tho, parents wouldn't let me. But it has those OG Gameboy vibes, which I did own.

The PS5 and PS3 designs don't make much sense with it's curves and "aerodynamic" aesthetic. It's not like it needs to fly or move in water 😅

PS1, top loader disc drive trumps all. PS1 > PS3 > PS2 >>> PS4 > PS5.

If slim models were included though I'd put PS2 slim on top and PS3 slim right below PS1. PS2 Slim is by far my favorite Sony console design.

All the ones that choose ps2, means you liked the Xbox one design too. They both was designed to look like something part of your entertainment center and not some teenager/kid console

I'm not sure how much "simpler" than PS5 a console which is still aiming at consuming a decent amount of power and not sounding like a vacuum cleaner while doing so can get.
Fully expect this to mean just "hey it's brick shaped again now like PS2 and PS4!" while being a similar size to PS5.

PS2. It fits inside an entertainment center, looks great, and i can put another device on top of it. PS4 is fine but it looks like a PS2 that grew up and no longer has fun.

As long as they have designed an effective and silent cooling solution, PS4 was a disaster and they knocked it out the park with the PS5's cooling system but it did mean they went with that V shaped design, some weren't big on it but I still think it looks pretty cool.

It'd be nice if they engineered the optional disc drive to be a super slimline unit that slots into the console rather than something that latches on to it and disrupts the flow of its lines. Despite some design flaws, the PS5 digital is quite nice imo, but the disc drive just kills it. I think the 'Slim' & Pro refined the look nicely, but again, the disc drive disrupts the flow and the need for a stand by default in all models in all positions is a fundamental design failure, especially that horrible little plastic stiletto thing for the Slim/Pro in horizontal position.

Even if they go more simplistic and utilitarian in shape/function, they still need to make something iconic, even if it's somewhat polarising. Every PS console is distinct and undeniably iconic, perhaps with exception to the godawful SuperSlim PS3 which was pure tat. I know many people just want a boring box, but for me games consoles are the one thing I like to have that extra something visually, I'm fine with them standing out a bit more and I think it's important to the brand to be obvious.

I think the best bet will be a modernised OG PS2-style box, with some more refined lines and very clear design language. Though likely a good bit larger still.. simultaneously a throwback to the PS2 era while also hinting at something much more futuristic. I'd love to see a shift to a silver-gunmetal grey type colour too. White isn't very popular and Black is still a bit played out. Something like this, maybe a little darker would be nice.

Number one goal would be full stability in horizontal position with no additional parts and decent stability in the vertical position by default (they'll still wanna sell you a premium stand for additional stability and aesthetics). Again, a slimline drive add-on that slots in to the console. Easy access to the NVMe. Optimal/logical placement of connections/ports. Minimal physical footprint while maintaining near-silence by way a of excellent thermals (big fan?). Easy to keep clean (no excessive indentations/ridges that a difficult to clean or fingerprint magnet surfaces).

...do they ever try to make it as big and heavy as possible?
No. The PS5 is gigantic because it had to be. Maybe if Sony stopped using inefficient AMD chips that suck down massive amounts of power for mediocre performance they wouldn't need giant consoles with huge heatsink parts. The PS5 has the odd outside shape to make it's large size look more visually appealing

i guess my take'd be: how in the fuck could it not have a much simpler design?! the ps5's an ugly, unwieldy monstrosity! who in the hell could even imagine a ps6 that wasn't simpler?...

PS1 I prefer the Slim
PS2 I prefer the Slim although i like the logo letters a lot
PS4 I prefer the Pro
PS5 I hate all versions

I ended up voting on PS3. At launch it felt more premium and it's the version of the console i like most.

I love the piano black PS3 original, but I also love the kitkat design PS4 lol

I like all the modern PS designs tbh.

PS2, PS3, PS4 etc

I think I only don't really like PS1's. PS2 and onward, golden....

I think the best looking PS system isnt even for gamers. It's the black PS1 edition for dev. This is slick looking.

PlayStation could easily bring back Net Yaroze with DualSense and the PSN to revolutionize independent game development.
Making a AAA PS1 game is on par with making an independent film in terms of expenses.

Give me a flat box that sits without a stand and make it as big as necessary to make it dead silent. Figure out your disc slot so that it doesn't sound like my system is cracking every time it spins up a disc.

For the controller, make it slightly smaller than the Dualsense. I'm 6'3" and even I think the controller is a little too big and bulky.
