Yeah im getting it, ive bought the last few console LOTR games and enjoyed them, and this seems right up my alley. Im loving this current crop of action rpg games coming out, its my favourite genre by far.
I've watched some videos, and I can't decide if I'm interested or not. On paper, the death system sounds kinda cool but also kinda silly. The gameplay videos I saw had the character doing super moves, instant decapitations, etc. which turned me off. Seemed like he was really overpowered.
I guess overall I don't really understand everything I'm seeing of the game just yet. That's not a bad thing, it just means it's kinda unlike what I've played before in some key ways, and because of that it's difficult for me to decide whether I wanna play it. But I'll certainly be keeping my ear to the ground to see what people have to say going forward.
I want to be hyped but the last several LOTR games have been so subpar it's hard to get expectations up.
I don't think so. You're kind of alone and behind enemy lines in Mordor, afaik

I share this sentiment.Honestly? It sounds (and looks) too good to be true. My hype levels are cautious. But I'll be following this and its reviews very closely. It looks to have literally everything I wanted War in the North to have.
What does this mean?

Fairly pessimistic viewpoint you got going there. I have a hard time as a LOTR fan not getting 100% geeked out by that trailer. But I suppose if you don't appreciate the fiction then you won't be as excited.I can hardly wait for the insignificant melodrama to unfold before my very eyes.
At least Gollum is in it... I played a bit of that LotR MOBA because of that little scamp.
I'll be playing it but everything about the game has been screaming constant in your face action and grimdark. I like more personal stories and downtimes, peaceful settings alongside the more action packed stuff. Does this game offer that? Trailers and gameplay showcases I've seen don't seem to show me this.
Yeah, the dev said that they've been showing a lot of this combat-focused Nemesis stuff because it's their biggest differentiator, but that exploration, downtime, secrets, and varied side missions are very important, as well.
If that's the case then I'm a bit more interested than before. I don't do well with constant action.

Its way more arkham than AC.I am cautiously optimistic. I would love for this to be LotR's "Arkham", but the story premise is dumb and the gameplay looks a little too close to AC for comfort. The Nemesis system looks neat, but the game needs other ways to differentiate itself from every other open world action game without relying on its license.
Fair enough, but this game is made by reputable developers who are proven... and it actually looks like a good game mechanically (where as Force Unleashed, well...)I guess I view it less as "LotR fiction" and more as "how can we squeeze a story for a game into the already-established LotR lore." I mean, as cool as it is to jump-attack the Dark Lord Sauron, we all know how that is going to go down. And hey, Gollum!
That sort of thing just doesn't sit well with me... it gives me vibes of the Force Unleashed and how it worked into Star Wars.

I'm not LotR devotee, but in that trailer, are we meant to interpret the blond elf to be Sauron in the form of Annatar? Is this the first time we've seen Sauron depicted in any physical form aside from his armored dark lord appearance?
That is one part of it.... you can also control the ones u defeat and order them to assassinate their superiors and stuff like that. Its neat.So i've been reading about this nemesis system a little.
From what I gather it's just that if a minion kills you it gets a better rank and remembers you? That's it?
I hope that this system is not poorly forced on the player in the end. That is one part of it.... you can also control the ones u defeat and order them to assassinate their superiors and stuff like that. Its neat.
