Demons' Souls was began it's slow journey from obscurity to success based on the strength of import sales. Word of mouth didn't just sell copies of the game, it motivated Sony to publish it in a new territory. At least Shadows of the Damned is starting out with a western release! It'll take fewer good words from fans to give it a similar boost. I'm not saying SotD will be as well received as DS, but if it merits near universal love I can see it having legs that push sales up in the long term, rather than following the typical 'launch boom and trickle' sales pattern of better publicized games.

I'm inclined to guess that SotD will sell better than NMH. It's much less polarizing in terms of gameplay, and it's on the PS360. It'll sell less copies at launch by a huge margin, but I think it'll have far better sales over all. Be interesting to see how it shakes out.

The camera placement hasnt been an issue for me. Like someone said before the animations could be better but it aint gamebreaking ^^

Though, given what is popular these days, HOW do you market this? Everyone who wants to buy this will, and anyone outside that circle probably wouldn't have cared anyway.

I'm very interested in this game, but I would have to trade in some games to get it. I really like RE4 and have been waiting for a game akin to it, but it's true that this will price drop quick. Damn it conflicting emotions!

If the game reviews well, I could see it being like Valkyria where it suddenly sells well once it's 20-40 bucks.

and then the sequel's on the Vita

edit: Also I really liked splatterhouse's aesthetic and vanquish but didn't really like Killer 7 or NMH. Would you guys recommend this?

I really hope the game does well somehow, but I doubt it. Given a hardcore GAF lurker like myself knew nothing of its release until late last week, I am pretty sure this game is going to bomb. :/
Please do well, at least enough to warrant a sequel. Here's hoping word-of-mouth is great.

I would recommend it. The athmosphere is pretty "horror" splatterhouse like and the gameplay is fast but not as fast as vanquish.

I'm playing through this game right now, and the first few minutes just made me laugh (in a fuckawesome way) and made me wish all RE games controlled this way.

This may be a bit premature since I only just finished the intro but I noticed a slight delay in the voice and facial animations, but that's just a minor gripe that isn't a game breaker for me.

I'm looking forward for more mind numbing good fun with this game.

I understand if EA thinks is going to be a low to moderate seller not shelling out for much marketing, but why not try to get some buzz going in the press? Apparently the game is pretty good but I've seen zero buzz or even mention of it.

One of the things about the gaming press is that if you treat a game like a big deal the press will treat it like a big deal, and if you treat it like a throw-away title so will the press.

They could at least buy some adspace at gaming sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc...

Oh yeah forgot about the lame manual, might as well not have included it if they're not going to put much effort into the manual.

Almost done with Act 2 and the weak spot target mechanic really reminds me of Killer 7. I'm now sure I'll enjoy replaying the game to get the trophies despite the lack of NG+ features.

one thing i don't know about EA Partner program games (like this) is if EA are always responsible for the marketing. i'm pretty sure that Valve handle all the marketing for their games, and they're an EA partner, for example.

i don't know how that works, and if it can vary one game to another. it may be the case that you pay EA for a level of marketing. i don't really know, but i wouldn't presume that EA are choosing how much to market this, or not.

i think it'd be interesting to find out anyway.

but yeah, that list of people who had no idea this was coming out yet (or at all) is pretty madenning. if it's good, spread the word of mouth people.

Valve's situation is a bit different since they act as their own publisher and use EA strictly to get boxed copies out on the market; it was the same situation for MTV Games and their arrangement for Rock Band.

SUPER HYPED, but super bummed that the pre-order digital soundtrack involves breaking out the old ea.com login. In a dream of dreams it would have been a pack-in, or baring that just some shady megaupload link because that's far more convenient.
