Shigeru Miyamoto's Roundtable for E3 09

Bingo. Hence it's brilliant if you have people to play with, not so much if you don't.

They CAN create this though, so that the single player is not totally lost. In fact, they had better have a good portion of the levels mapped specifically for single player.

people realize nsmb wii is played entirely single player right...just like the first one.......right? wtf with the "no reason to buy it!" comments. was there no reason to buy the first one then either?

What?

Also, dunno what you're mad about. You're getting another awesome WW style game for the DS. :D

3d DS games look like dog-shit. That is nigh on universal. I loved Phantom Hourglass, I'm glad we're getting another, and this will be one of the DS' best games but frankly - I just don't care for DS or DS games the way I used to. I want the home console Zeldas to appeal to me on all levels - in visuals, in colour, in charm. The fact that IGN editors swooned link was "more grown up than ever" has me horribly worried. Even Metroid: Other M might be a case of Nintendo pursuing style over substance... its only because I'm so satisfied from the 3 prime games that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Hm, is Kobun Heat or anyone going to be taking questions for NoA? I would like to see some more direct Q&A about some specific things. >_>

Those questions? Seriously?

Kid Icarus?
More Zelda?
Pikmin?
NEW IP?!

WTF

At a guess, they probably weren't allowed to ask about other games. Otherwise there'd be nothing but those questions.

I seriously think some of these journalists were fearing a negative response/disrespect from Miyamoto, thus not asking the tough questions

I'm not too peeved that we didn't see Zelda Wii.

If the game isn't ready to show, then it just isn't ready to show. And it's the same for Retro's project.

Agreed, the simple announcement is nice. While I'd love to hear more about Pikmin 3 and Kirby.. I have faith..
sorta..

I still don't think it's going to be as fun playing solo, because the game's central tenet was the emphasis on multiplayer (Mario 4D comment).

So guys, what's this Japanese Nintendo Post E3 conference I've heard about earlier in the week? Can we expect some announcements whenever it might happen.

Nothing at all, just a retailer briefing.

Reggie says nothing new during that.

Already confirmed to be retail-related, so we won't be seeing anything new. =/

Either someone is fucking with Miyamoto, or Miyamoto is fucking with us. There is just no way, unless this game gets seriously nuts later on. But even then, it's 2D for God's sake.

"7:18 p.m.: Q: Cranky Craig just asked a good question about how Wii Sports Resort has a stamp system. He asked, is this maybe the start of a full-blown achievements system for Wii?

A: "Not, maybe, in the overall sense that you're talking about," replies Miyamoto. It just fit Wii Sports Resort. "I'm not a big fan of using the carrots to motivate people to play. I want people to play because they enjoy playing and want to play more." (Sorry, Bozon.) "The stamps within Wii Sports Resort are more of an impetus to play in different ways and to try and do different things."

Thank you Miyamoto! Exactly why I hate achievements. They are even more annoying then the "stay tuned" previews of the next episodes at the end of a TV show.

So basically it's Zelda Four Swords Adventures on the GCN all over again but without the bitching about connectivity.

Except 4 Swords And 4 Swords Adventures are well-designed. "Precision" doesn't come to mind when looking at New Super Mario Brothers Wii.

- Zelda OMG Teh Mature Wii: November, for the big sales - they hope - that Twilight Princess failed to ignite.

I wouldn't be surprised if while this new Zelda is "mature" in that it has older characters, it's going to have some universal element to make it appeal to more than just the Nintendo faithful or the hardcore gamers. Maybe it will be part of an evolution of the Wii branding, promoting Zelda as mature and grown-up in the sense of a widely popular adult fantasy film like The Lord of the Rings.

While nintendo was dissappointed at the japanese sales of TP, it sold extremely well elsewhere and is one of the best selling zelda games.

Man... online for NSMB never even crossed my mind until I saw thread. I don't feel a great loss.

Well it's 2009 and when I see a MP game I instantly think online.

Except when the game is revealed for Wii of course!

I agree. They should do exactly what Miyamoto said just encourage different ways to play. The only game I've played that did this was CoD4. I loved their achievements for ranking.

I seriously think that the journalists don't care anymore about Nintendo. Period.
Like the industry show the finger during the conference, journalists are dropping the ball with nintendo coverage.

Miyamoto confirms there is no new Pikmin 3 news to come just yet, and discusses why...

peaking today to gaming blog Kotaku, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto clarified that there unfortunately was no new information to be revealed by the Big N about Pikmin 3 at E3 this year. The threequel was first announced at last year's expo, but has since remained firmly under wraps.

Says Miyamoto:

"I'm sorry ... unfortunately we haven't been able to expand the team size very much, because we've been working on so many different games that we've shown off at the show. So the team is working very hard, but it's a bit of a small team."
Kotaku did however get Miyamoto to confirm the team existed of more than two people, and that they were still working on a full new title. Miyamoto said his "basic idea is that the sense of the depth of the game and the simplicity of the control will all be there."

We just hope it won't be E3 2010 before we hear more on the project!

O_o' Please, stop living in your little gaf-bubble. It makes you ridiculous (but good news, it's not like you're the only one).

Posted this in the Zelda thread but seems applicable here as well.

Here we go:

Miyamoto and company are working hard on the new Legend of Zelda, and it might be Wii MotionPlus compatible. Updated with exclusive low resolution photo!

At the Shigeru Miyamoto roundtable tonight, it was revealed that an all-new entry in the Zelda series is in development. Only a small sampling of artwork was shown, including a picture of Link and what was possibly a Zora.

WTF wii can't handle a 4 player online sidescroller? What kind of lame excuse is that? Disappointed!

Thats what I'm saying. It doesn't really bother me that it's not included but the excuse they gave was lame. I mean the grinder from high voltage is a first person shooter that can get up to 65 enemies on screen at a time and it'll have 4 player online co-op.

Wow, Nintendo was so close to make this epic E3 even better, imagine the joy if they actually released a trailer for that Zelda game.

Haha that photo is a joke, right? You'd think announcing a new Zelda would at least... have a little more to fuel speculation?

I think IGN said that Miyamoto showed off some art that describes pretty much that picture.

A Zelda with Motion+ is going to be released in 2010, and there's no GAF meltdown? I'm disappointing...

How the hell are nintendo planning this?!

so in 2009 we have to wait 6 months without games and Metroid + galaxy 2 and maybe even Zelda are 2010.

:(
