Should I keep the ROG Ally?

I ordered it from Amazon, and I haven’t even opened it yet. But I saw a bunch of videos on YouTube talking about all the windows and driver updates. I feel like it could overwhelm me. I’ve never had a Windows based handheld, so should I go ahead and try it or am I going to hate it?

Thanks for the help.

Don't you have a grace period of return window after opening the box too? IMO initial setup may be cumbersome but it's fairly smooth after that.

Hard to say, and telling you to send it back is really kinda a bad move, since it is 100% opinion.

I guess I would say that it sounds like you didn't research it enough and perhaps you could delay the purchase until you were sure?

I think you can just go on Amazon and ask if you can return it because you’ve had a change of heart. They email you a pdf of a label and you need to use a printer to print it out. Buy a box from a stationary store or try to reuse the Amazon box and stick the label on it.

Then go to a postal service and they’ll know what to do and if it’s free post or not.

It's really not a big deal (Ally X owner here). The touch screen works well if you are worried about having to use some of the Windows functions. Having Steam start automatically in big picture mode alleviates like 99% of usability issues.

it's a Windows PC... it's not that complicated lol.

just turn it on install all the updates that pop up, and then use it like it's a laptop with a controller attached to it.

Send it back. Ton of updated handhelds are coming out soonish.

Alternatively you could put custom “Steam OS” looks alike and not deal with Windows.

I'm team Steam Deck, or maybe one of these SteamOS handhelds coming out.
Windows on a handheld is stupid. They don't have a streamlined version of it specifically for handhelds.
