ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X Announced | Coming this holiday 2025

Sounds like we're getting new previews soon. Linus is going to see it today.

Time stamped at 22:02

As part of overall marketing, it makes sense to have these previews. But Rog Ally has been a thing for a long time now, so us hardcore fans already know what it is capable of. And the Microsoft version is also beefy.

I think the only thing that's actually relevant and interesting (at least for me) is the price that they decide to go with.

If MS believed in their brand they would have created their handheld in house. This is dead in the waters as the steam deck and even the rog machines already exist. They are 10 years to late.

Good thing Game Pass and MS's success doesn't hinge on a device that is just a bonus or extra luxury for PC gamers. It was never going to sell like a Switch 2, even at $400. But it looks worth it to me as an upgrade to my Steam Deck.

Prices mistakenly revealed by Asus early.
  • Cheaper version = 600 Euros ... or, if we convert as is, then roughly 950 CAD / 1,064 AUD / $700 USD
  • Expensive version = 900 Euros ... or, if we convert as is, then roughly 1500 CAD / 1598 AUD / $1050 USD

Cheaper Version: Who in their right mind would buy this at that price? Your better off getting ROG Ally X now instead getting this Z2 Go chip system.

Expensive version: This isn't a problem for me because I already anticipated this price range but yeah this thing is dead or going to be niche in a lot of markets at that price.

That Z2 Extreme better be a helluva lot more performant than the Z1 Extreme.

Don't think you convert it like that. Current price of Rog Ally X in EU is 899 euros. Same as it is in the US. Difference is EU includes VAT.

It's only 15%-20%~ better than the Z1 Extreme so it's up to you if you want to spend over $1000 for that.

That's a decent upgrade from gen to gen . It's also way more power efficient at 15w and below. You will get more than 25% at 15w over the rog ally x. Less (15% to 20% more at ) at 25w

This is impressive. As far as price goes it's very clear it's going to be 800$ US plus tax

The ROG Ally X was going for $799 but they recently increased it to $899 so there's no way the price of this Z2 Extreme system will be at below the price of their current offering that's nonsense specially when you got the orange man playing pin pong with tariffs.

I know. I am not saying that's the price will be in those regions.

The prices are references so folks in these countries can quickly gauge how much that is in their currency without resorting to a currency converter.

oh yeah you are right about the price. its 900$ in the US ( weirdly its cheaper for us here in Canada as we still at the same price of what Is equivalent to 800$ USD ).

but yeah 900$ not gonna fly. that's not assuming MS wants its cut now because they slapped the xbox logo in it for royalty fees or something. lol

Cheaper because Canada doesn't have the weird tariffs.

Unlikely MS gets a cut since this helps their storefront. This is targeted at the folks who buy PC handhelds, including the existing Ally X.

This is the price they have to sell it for to make the profit they want per unit.
They can't subsidize costs cause it'll be an open windows platform. Not locked to a digital store where they're guaranteed a cut of every game sale.
So it has less to do with the MS cut, more to do with not being subsidized at all.

My biggest question is whether the Xbox Fullscreen Experience and other features will come to Windows

One would think, but this seems to be an exclusive deal with Asus right now. Even Lenovo owners have to wait until next year. Maybe when they open it up to other handhelds, they will offer it up to everyone.
