Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

mhmm, 3DS or steam, cant decide

I'm getting it on 3DS so I can play it anywhere, and I'll probably double dip on Steam later on when there's a discount. By then the multiplayer battle arena should be out too, so I can put that on a big screen and play with friends.

Getting 3DS, I like to play on the go.

Well, could you explain why you thinks it looks monotonous?

It was just a whole heap of basic platforming with the occasional mini boss here and there that looked really easy to defeat. The secrets are well placed, you'll need to keep an eagle eye out, but otherwise the periods between the main boss fights looked boring to play through in comparison.

This comes out the 26th?? I totally lost track of it after backing it. GRID Autosport and PvZ Garden Warfare come out on the 24th! I'm going to be totally overloaded.

Huh? That's not the impression I have of the level design in the game at all. The levels all have unique properties and challenges. There are unique gimmicks which keeps things interesting.

Plague Knight's stage has a really cool lightning/darkness effect where some parts of the stage hides platforms and enemies in pure darkness, and you can only see them when lightning flashes in the background, lighting everything up.

King Knight's stage has areas where you use bounce off flying propeller rats, and some of the enemies have sword/shield mechanics to them so you approach the combat differently.

Mole Knight's stage has lava and cooling gel stuff which you need to use to create safe areas to bounce to the next areas, and there's an entire sequence where you ride through the lava on the back of creature.

Lots of cool stuff, and many of the better secrets definitely encourage exploration since they could be in totally optional parts of the stages, sometimes with much tougher platforming challenges to get to the rewards.

I would really wonder how anybody would fine Shovel Knight to be boring, trust me, this isn't a boring game.

So hyped for this! Only found out about the game after it was backed, but I'm going to buy it day of release. I heard it's a bit after the 26th for us Europeans though? It'd be nice if it was indeed the 26th.

Buying for 3DS of course.

I'll be snagging this, thanks a bunch

The best NES style graphics I've ever seen. True to the aesthetic of NES games while retaining the fidelity I'd expect from a 2014 game. Beautiful!

I should mention that I have yet to play the 3DS version myself, but I'm going off what Yacht Club Games has mentioned. They seemed fairly confident about it, so I wouldn't worry.

The StreetPass battle sounds awesome, I hope to actually StreetPass someone who owns this game. I will be hitting up those Relay Points over the course of the next month!

Been waiting for this for ages, but I can't wait to dig my teeth into this game on 3DS.

Double Dipping for Wii U. Triple dipping for steam sales.

So excited to finally be playing this game in the near future! Shovel Knight really awakens the little kid playing NES all the time in me! ;)

I think as of right now I am going 3DS. I will double dip and pick up on Wii U when there's a sale. Now I just hope other people pick it up on 3DS so I actually get streetpasses. Should have been $15 cross buy.

I have to say that the game is amazing, level design is very good and the secrets as someone said before me, are placed very well. Very reminiscent of old NES era platformers and of course the rage that comes with them when you stupidly fall in between a gap. Keeps making me smile and I have to make myself stop playing otherwise I'll loose all day to it. During development I was exchanging emails with on of the devs and my impression is that they are really humble guys who know what they are doing.

This game has been a pleasure to review, I am looking forward to their next game!

... What is the uhh, replay value of this game like? Are there extra modes? Score attack? Online level leaderboards or something? I'm already sold on this game, but I'm curious of its longevity.

Thanks to the digital promotion, I'll be picking this game up. Really peaked my interest after seeing in-depth gameplay at E3.

There's a New Game +, as well as additional content to be implemented in future updates.

Well this look like a interesting game , watched the Jim Sterling game play video and it pretty much sold me to it .
We need more games like these .

DAY 1

Man... the OT is actually up! So close! Going 3DS here. Not like I don't have 50000 other things in my play query at the moment though. Heh.

NEXT WEEK OMG YES! I'm very excited. Been playing a lot of NES lately and this will be a great follow up to that.

EDIT: I can NOT watch those videos. Watched like one minute and just realized I'm spoiling it.

I think this blog update is fairly important and should be added to the OP: Digger's Diary Detailed - as you can imagine, it goes into detail regarding the creative process behind the wii u's most prominent exclusive feature.
